Title: Binghamton vs. Butterflies - First round playoffs

Bingo got the split in Manchester last night, taking it 4-3 in OT.   They play a 2 games away, 3 home and 2 away, so IMHO getting a split is crucial under that format.  It is tough to win 3 in a row so without the split, all the Monarchs would need is one win in three and then get two cracks at home to close it out.  Great job!

I really think the team will get better as the playoffs go on as bodies are re-integrated.  Just need to get out of the first round now!

I wish the AHL website had highlights like the NHL's site does. I listen to games (and have all year long) but I never get to see what happens.  :evil

Your wish is their command Metal.  Check again in a few hours.  They are slow and sometimes a day behind but the first game highlights is there now.

For now here are some highlights from the local tv station

http://www.wbng.com/sports/Sens-Get-OT-Win-Even-Series-With-Monarchs-119960664.html

Nice goal by the 20 year old college kid, Derek Grant. in OT.  I knew once they got that first goal, they would relax and play a bit better.  Barry Brust needs to watch his positioning and stop being a frustrated  "D-man."   :laugh2:

Now bring it home boys and let's take it to the next round.

Ugh, knife to the gut loss today.  B-Sens had a 3-0 first period lead and lost 5-4 in OT.  That's tough on the mojo.  They must win the next 2 at home.

Derek Smith... out with an undisclosed injury....David Hale....out with an undisclosed injury..... Cory Locke....out with an undisclosed (yet everyone knows shoulder) injury.  Even the ECHL player that's up is injured. The offense is OK but our defense is very, very thin.  That was one of the things that killed us on Sunday.   :icon_banghead:   It's gonna be a looooooooooooong night.

Oh well, it is what it is......GO B-SENS GO!!!!!

I believe I heard the "undisclosed injury" is code for the flu bug that has hit the dressing room.  Same thing is going around the Bruins' dressing room (and was the main contributor to Chara's diagnosis of dehydration).  Won't be the first time that a 'bug' has infected a team and made life difficult for them to get out of the round of playoffs they are in!  I think they should have all the 'sickies' breathing/barfing/coughing/hacking in the same room and re-route the vents into the opposition dressing room..... :smily1263:

Good Luck to the B-Sens tonight! :woohoo

Prophetic words.  4 3rd period goals against to lose 6-3.   Thin D indeed.

Brust is also less than even a shadow of his regular-season self. He's been borderline brutal so far.

Ugh, bad news.  I didn't get to listen to the game and wondered about that.   Missing Hale would be huge on D, need the goalie to step up, not down.   If Rose is right and the flu is going through the dressing room, they are pretty cooked

Game 5 tonight, 7:05.

All those guys with all this NHL experience need to step it up as well. Condra, Butler and Greening in particular.

Flu is code for injuries they don't want to disclose.  Kleinendorst said "Flu going around," with a smile so as not to give away where the injury is. "If it's an ankle, it's the flu."   I wish it were the flu.  I heard Derek Smith has a concussion which we all know, is not a good sign of a return anytime soon.

Game 5 tonight, 7:05.

All those guys with all this NHL experience need to step it up as well. Condra, Butler and Greening in particular.

They have disappeared in the playoffs and I'm sick of hearing them say, "They play rougher in the AHL......"   Blah blah Blah.  SUCK IT UP.

I personally feel this is it tonight.  Lehner is starting and although he has good games, his nervousness when the pressure is on is VERY obvious. If he let's a couple in, it will be like a damn broke.  But what the heck, give the kid a try.  With the "D" sucking right now, he is going to have to get over being scared though and steal one for the team.   :ccclapping:

Not a big fan of rollercoaster's.   :spin:   Awww well at least I don't have to watch them be eliminated.  Manchester is WAY more physical then the Sens.  Soft Sens?? Hmmm where have I heard that before?  Anyway, I hope I have to eat my words and they come back and actually take the series.  Locke MAY BE back Friday which could only help.  Lehner gets the start again.  He was ....... not bad, not great, just OK and good enough to get the win.

Locke back would be fine, but can they dig up more than 4 full-time Dmen?   Potulny is looking like the best late pick-up for the B-Sens in a while.

B-Sens only have to win two in Manchester!

B-SENS WIN IN DOUBLE OT TO FORCE GAME 7 TOMORROW IN MANCHESTER. :happy dance:  Lehner in goal with 51 saves even facing a lame penalty shot by the number one scorer in the playoffs for Manchester.  Way to step up kid and make the big saves.  This is Bingo's 3rd OT win in the series.  Damn, never count them out, I've learned that this season for sure.  Wish I could make the trip to Manchester but I will be listening.  I am one happy fan tonight.   :ccclapping:   :ccclapping:   :ccclapping:  :happy dance:   :happy dance:

No kidding!  They gotta win the next one for the fans in Bingo.  I listened to the first two periods, and it sure sounded like the radio guys weren't sure about Lehner from the way there calling the game, great that he won a tough game like that.

Nice to hear that the kid got a win in double overtime tonight!  Lehner has had a kind of tough season with him having to be here in Ottawa without the proper development time in Bingo and stepping in for the O-Sens when he was clearly not ready to do so.  Will have to remember to put the game on the radio tomorrow night.  Is it a 7 pm start again?
Title: Re: Binghamton vs. Butterflies - First round playoffs
Post by: Dagwood on April 23, 2011, 09:59:59 AM
Lehner has played on the Worlds stage..so I don't get the "Kids not ready" type comments.  Yes he is young, Yes he hasn't played in a lot of B-Sens games and Yes he can be shakey at times.  But I'm not sure a 1st round series is much different than playing for his country in front of millions of Viewers can compare in terms of experience in high pressure games.

Anyway, If Locke comes back and the Goaltending and Defense can put up an iron curtain....I'm liking thier chances to move on considering Manchester has all the pressure on them now....in front of the home crowd....in win or done situation

Game 7 is indeed at 7:00 tonight Rose.  The B-Sens back in the lockout year, number one in the division, were sent packing by the WBS Penguins after winning 2 in a row and loosing 4 straight after that.  :bag:

I forgot to mention that the D has been playing with basically 4 players.  Geoff Kinrade said after the game.

Quote
"It feels really good, just as good just the fact that it's over," joked Kinrade, one of only four regular defensemen remaining in the B-Sens' lineup. "That game was just lagging on. We're short on the back end, and I just didn't want to keep going out on the ice anymore. I was getting really tired. No; it was a huge win, obviously. We live to die another day, and hopefully it's not for quite some time yet."
  pressconnects.com

The bad news is, still only 5 (but really 4) d-men and no one  that has been out even made the trip to Manchester.  How tired will Lehner be after stopping 51 shots?  (The penalty shot actually missed the net all together but none the less, nerve wracking indeed.)

The good news is they have momentum and lots of it going into tonight's game.  The Monarch's will be just as tired as our guys and if need be, the B-Sens can always play Barry who although hasn't played his best in the playoffs, was certainly one of the reasons they are in it.  The most important plus to remember is this team seems to play better when down a couple bodies.  That has been the case all season long.  It also appears the newly formed (third period) line of Butler, Condra and O'Brien seems to have clicked.

Whatever the outcome is tonight, we enjoyed a great season and look forward to next season.   :happy dance:    :icon_thankyou:

With Manchester putting Tyler Toffoli back into the line up, they are looking for scoring power rather than grit tonight. He's a sniper and look for him to score for Manchester.  He can be hard to contain.  I want BSens to win but I think they are in tough given how their D is depleted

The Senators became just the second team in AHL history to win four OT games in one series, the 16th club to successfully come back from a 3-1 series deficit, and the sixth to win Games 6 and 7 of a series on the road.

The series was also the first one in the 75-year history of the AHL to see Games 5, 6 and 7 all go to overtime.

I'm really happy for the B-Sens fans and the team.  They found ways to win...

Thanks Rose.  I have to admit, this rollercoaster ride is scary yet exhilarating.   :fear:  :happy dance:  Coach Kleinendorst predicted before the playoffs that the first round would be the hardest.  Let's see if he is right.  He also said he couldn't take 5 more OT again.  Too much for him to handle.  I know he's got that right.
And some good news out of practice today, Corey Locke will play in Portland if he feels OK tomorrow.     That's a big boost for the Offense.  No injured D-men practiced today though.  I'm not sure Derek Smith or David Hale will be back again this season at all.  What a shame, especially for Smith who has been here a few years and was SO excited to have a chance to make the playoffs.

My guess is they will go with Lehner as Brust has a slight injury.  I can even pick out the play that caused the injury to Brust.   :oh oh:  They signed a player on an ATO contract but the name escapes me now.  I'm guessing Brust will still backup Lehner if at all possible.  Heck ride the hot goalie, right?

BTW:  I think it was the 6 game of the last series when Lehner let in 2 or 3 quick, soft goals.  Kleinendorst left him in and he was able to compose himself and finish the game. Afterwards he went and thanked the coach for leaving him in and letting him work through it.  Nice touch by the kid.
