Wow.  I thought of this forum and clicked in to take a look and saw this thread.   Not one of the main folks like metal et al but I still managed to crank up 14k in posts, way more than any other forum, when I was active.  This place had a special and great vibe that is missed.   A  :drink: to everyone.

If not Spezza, Phillips is the next Captain if Alfie retires.

Sens Talk / Re: SENS knock off Rangers in 1rst round Agreed?????
« on: April 27, 2012, 01:06:40 PM »
Well, hell of a series, and a hell of a season.   The guys went out on their shields, and I'm proud of that.  One little bounce and it could be the Sens moving on.  I was watching the Devils-Cats and the 2nd Devils goal was from a puck bouncing around 3 sets of feet in front of the goalie and it bounced out for an easy goal... wanted on of those for us!

Bitter and sour though it is, credit to the Rangers.  The have a system, and execute it almost perfectly for 60 minutes.  Didn't give up any odd man rushes, and add in an all-star goalie and there is reason for goals being few and far between.

Sens played very, very, well, but again credit to the Rangers, they made the Sens pay for the couple of big gaffs they made.  I got to see the Rangers D set-up from ice level at one game and TV doesn't do it justice, it is scary tight.   Not the kind of hockey I want to see all the time, but they do execute it very well.

Hard to tell if Alfie will be back.  He would leave on a high note with a tinge of regret from the playoffs.  But the team is transitioning to a new generation and he is leaving it in good hands.  On the other hand, he was the best skater on the ice last night.  If his concussions, surgeries, and aches and pains, let him, I hope he is back to work with the young guys.

Game 7, can't wait.   I actually feel a lot better about this game than game 6.

All season the Sens were their best, backs against the wall, written off by all the experts and a lot of fans.  There were a ton of times when some wins would be really nice and they didn't do it - chances to push ahead of the Bruins, or the week with multiple Habs and Leafs games when they went flat.  Then they would get into must win games, and pull out wins against the heavy weights that weren't expected.

For Game 6 they were kicking back at home, had won two in a row, and getting atta boys all over the place.  No to mention, the Rangers also just don't lose many 3 times in a row either.

So on to game 7, where penalty calls will be far and few between, and don't expect any 5 on 3s for so-so calls.  More importantly, the team should be pumped enough to not melt down like they did after the 5 on 3 goal, which was the real game 6 killer.

Must win, backs against wall, going to hostile enemy territory, Sens have them right where they want them!

2011-2012 Gameday Threads / Re: Gameday Thread, Round 1

I don't necessarily disagree with you on Dubinsky getting tossed.  However, is it not a fight because Boyle turtled?  For a big guy, he sure went down quickly and covered up.  But, yeah, tossing Dubinsky was a surprise to me....but also because I was impressed that the refs could figure out who got in there as third man in.  ;)

From what I read, 3rd man in does not require a fighting major.  Dubinsky got a shot or two in on Carkner's head and I assume that is what the toss is for.  Don't think he should have gotten tossed, but I will take it.   The root problem is the refs being weak in the first game and sending a clear message when Karllsson was given an offsetting minor for catching Boyles punches.

Torts was calm and cool in the post-game because he was trying to sell Phillips hit as being in the same league as Hagelin.  Aside from Hagelin, Proust got away with a Karlsson mugging, and the Del Zoto cross check on Turris was a vicious one.  Good time to lie low and do some lobbying.   I am sure Ranger fans can trot out their laundry list of hideous Senator stuff, but the fact is only one guy left the ice with a potential concussion.

Carkner should get a fine.   He was tossed for pretty well the entire game, so there is the suspension.  He also looked Boyle in the eye before smucking him around.  A game if he hadn't been tossed.

Hagelin should get a game or two.  Being allowed to continue playing the game was a grossly blown call.   For the hit, Alfie saw him coming and moved out of the way.  If Hagelin continues straight ahead, it's a partial hit or a miss.  Instead, Hagelin has to change his path and start coming off his feet in order to track Alfie's head and hit him with the elbow.  That's what takes it out of any argument that it was a hockey play and is pretty textbook of what the league is trying to get out of the game.  Alfie was also concussed buy a borderline Ranger hit already, so ignoring this one will be difficult.

The wildcard is that the NHL lost control of multiple games last night and may be looking to just toss the book at everyone.

For game 3 the Sens should start out hard and press the play in the Rangers end.  The refs will be on high alert in the first period and better to be pressing and let the Rangers have to scramble and try to slow them down, and take potential penalties for doing that.   Not the time to come out and give them an excuse to toss folks.  If there are fireworks, likely an enforcer match between Konopka and Scott, which would be fine.

Should be an intense game.  I'll be in Row B, Rangers end for this one!

General Hockey Discussions / Re: 2012 All Star Game for Ottawa?
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:38:11 PM »
Very well done Ottawa.

If anyone doesn't like homer based results, whine to the NHL, piss off about giving Sens, and Leaf fans, grief for voting for favourites.  The NHL makes a mockery of it by giving 30 votes per e-mail address and 30 votes per text message number. Looks like they want a solid hometown representation to make sure there is enough local buzz.

Sens fans are danged if they do and danged if the don't vote anyway. Don't vote in their guys, and the comments are about how lame the fans are for not supporting their team. Vote them in, and it's a travesty and making a mockery of a sacred event!

Like I said, you REALLY, REALLY need to chill out.

I'm not the one the routinely stoops to personal attacks because someone disagrees with me.  Your latest potty post about mommie's basement, etc. is typical.  You have been made welcome on this board but to often have abused that.  I do note that you clean up your act when you get called on it.  For the most part I ignore your negative junk, but once in a while you need a  :icon_fryingpan: and you clean it up for a while.   Do you happen to recall a diatriabe post you made a bit back and couldn't resist spewing something like "but I'm not going to argue with the likes of you two".  The two being Rose and I.  So if you don't like the attention, please look in the mirror.   My challenge to you is to go for 10 days with making your points without taking personal shots at the good folks on this board.

Reply however you like.

Are you calling me lazy???? :paddle:

Nope, whether there hate for a team or player is a legit question.  Your post was thoughtful and considered.   Lazy are the folks that toss out the "Haters Hate" cliches.

One outdoor a year is fun if the location can draw a big 50,000+ crowd.  The NHL rushed way to quickly into pumping it up.

No, I get the Leafs/Leaves thing.  I just said it doesn't make sense in that context.

That guy just likes to follow me around here trolling me.  Sad actually. But haters got to hate.  :A_laughing_matter:

Poor FV,  can't go more than a few posts without calling someone something like silly or dumb if they disagree with you and tosses around "Haters" and "Troll" if anyone pokes fun at him for his auto Leaf defence mechanism.  You really need to chill out.   LOL.

Will be a tough game against the Pens Friday night!!!  :punch:

Bigtime.  Stall is really playing well, so the Pens can roll three lines with Croasby, Malkin and Staal on each.

You know the buildings name is Maple Leaf Gardens right?  It's not Leafs.  I know you find the Leaves thing amusing for some reason, but using it in this context is just plain dumb.

LEAF DEFENSE LEAGUE TO THE RESCUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :A_laughing_matter:

Good sum-up as usual Rose.  It's sports, it is to have fun with, so hating is not really part of the equation.  I appreciate Crosby's skill, but as a fan, just never warmed up to him.  Just because someone isn't a fanboy is no reason for people to throw around the "hater" tag, but it's easy and lazy minds go for that.

People hate to Penguins in part because of Crosby.  I dare say they have a better fan base then even Ottawa.  Something like 250 straight sell out games.      And it continues.  How many other places can say that?  Who here would not give their right arm to have Crosby on their team?  I have been to both the PNC Arena in Pittsburgh and Scotia Bank Place in Ottawa.  There is simply no comparison in my book.  PNC hands down.  And I'm talking fans alone and nothing else.

I wish Crosby all the best in the world.  I guess I just can't understand all the hate on him.   :smily677:

The Pens are a very well run organization.  I think the anti-Crosby stuff is mailny from when he was younger.  It's not as strong now.  I don'tknow anyone that is happy about him being out of the game witht he concussions for such a long time.  His comeback even made ESPN sports news, during their Sunday NFL morning show, and the NEVER touch hockey there.

Start treatment happens in all leagues.  Just like some guys get some penalties as much as for who they are vs. what they do.

I like the Team's 3 stars better.  What's with auto giving a star to the guy with the gwg?  Vancouver's penalty kill won the game for them.  Burn the tape because it is a blueprint for other teams playing Ottawa.  The best Sen PP wasin the 3rd period when the first unit's shift ws used up playing 6 on 5 before the whistle and a grinder unit came out with Phillips and Kuba on the point.
