Anything But Hockey / Signed Alfie Jersey Raffle
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:12:57 AM »
Hey Gang,

I'm part of a group organizing a charity fundraiser on the 25th. As part of the fundraiser, I have an authentic Daniel Alfredsson autographed retro jersey, tags still on, to raffle off. Tickets are $5.00 each, or 5 for $20.00. All proceeds go to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Draw will be held live at the event at 10:55 on the 25th, and the winner will be contacted the following morning if not in attendance.

The event itself is called "Shake the Foundation", which is a benefit dance featuring 6 bands over 8 hours, with some live auctions to be held in between bands. It's being held at the Armouries hall in the Renfrew fair grounds, and tickets are $10.00.

Please pm me if interested, or buy your tickets online at http://www.sparepartsfundraising.com/events/daniel-alfredsson-autographed-jersey-raffle-3472.html.   One week today for the draw! Will ship for free if the winner is outside of the Ottawa area.

Anything But Hockey / You Can Help
« on: August 19, 2011, 08:37:11 AM »
Hey Gang,

As some of you know, I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure 4 years ago, and have been on dilaysis since. I had a deceased donor transplant 2 years ago, but the kidney had been damaged beyond repair, and had to be removed 5 weeks later after going septic.
So, it's fair to say that the Kidney Foundation is near and dear to my heart.
On Sept 25, I'm participating in the Kidney Foundation of Canada Give the Gift of Life Walk in Ottawa. It's a 5k walk, geared to raise funds and awareness. The proceeds go to help fund research, patient education, councilling, and advocacy, and more.
My team has raised over $2500.00 of our $5000.00 goal, and we need help getting to the finish line.
Please click here to donate.

Any donations of $20.00 or more will receive an income tax receipt.

Thanks,
ptbnl

« on: March 03, 2011, 12:48:55 PM »
I figured this would be an appropriate place to put this since there's a lot of talk he's likely to end up as a Senator after this June.
Gabriel Landeskog will be in town Sunday with the Kitchener Rangers to play the 67's. Game time is at 2:00 for anyone who's interested.

Unbelievable! A guy who pulled his team from the ice to protest the opponent using racial slurs and being allowed to continue has been suspended for the remainder of the season, while the insulting player in question and his coach were given 3 games each. Way to take a stand there, OMHA!!! Great lesson that you've taught the kids on both teams, and now across Canada.

« on: June 23, 2010, 07:56:07 AM »
So the Habbies signed Plek to a 5 year, 30 million dollar contract, a week after shipping out Halak because he was looking for between 4 and 5... I am SOOOOOO glad Gauthier isn't gm of Ottawa anymore.

Sens Talk / Phillips Having Surgery
« on: April 28, 2010, 12:14:53 PM »
Saw on TSN today that Phillips is having foot surgery to remove bone spurs. I thought something might be wrong with him, he really didn`t look like himself through the playoffs. So that makes 4 of our players now having surgery in the off- season. Let`s hope Spezza doesn`t have any problems with his ovaries....

Sens Talk / Kuba's back- Lee on the way to Bingo
« on: March 18, 2010, 01:46:15 PM »
Just received a bulletin. Brian Lee's been reassigned to Bingo. Must mean Kuba's ready for action. I heard on Over the Edge this morning that Kuba skated this morning and was likely back in the lineup. Timing couldn't be any better. The whole team has been struggling lately, but Lee scares me every time he's on the ice.

Sens Talk / Comeback Year
« on: September 16, 2009, 02:59:52 PM »
I stole this topic from Over The Edge. This morning they were asking listeners to call or e- mail their choices for which Senator player was due to have the biggest comeback year. Since sooo many of our guys had bad years last year (including a couple of our new players), there should be lots of guys picking up their games this year. Should make for some interesting debate.

My choice is Cheechoo. The last couple of years in SJ, he was injury prone, and didn't get a lot of ice time when he was healthy due to the team's depth. A change of scenery usually helps someone in a slump, and according to him his injuries are behind him and he's in the best shape he's been in for a few years. He should end up playing on either the first or second line here as well as PP time, and with the way our top 6 looks, he should have line mates to compliment his game and help him return to form.

Sens Talk / Rookie Tournament
« on: September 11, 2009, 11:13:07 AM »
Anyone esle here get to watch any of the rookie tournament? I saw parts of two games, vs the Penguins and vs the Leafs.
To me, Karlsson still doesn't look quite NHL ready. He's good offensively, but once he's on the defensive side of the red line, looks a little shakey. If he can be exposed in a rookie tournament, I think he'll be torn apart in the NHL. IMHO, it would be better for him to spend another year bulking up while playing a lot of minutes in Bingo to get used to the North American game.
His defence partner for the tournament, Kyle Wharton, stood out as a very strong defenceman, and should get a look in camp.
Smith looked pretty good. Played well at both ends of the ice, and showed some skill with the puck.
Jim O'Brien looked pretty good. While he may never have a 100 point season, he plays very hard at both ends of the ice, and plays with lots of jam. Depending on what the Sens have planned for him, he may be a good addition to our 4th line this year, but it would be better for his development to play 15 minutes a night in bingo rather than 2-3 minutes a night in Ottawa. He should be a regular call- up.
Regin looked okay. From what I saw, he really didn't stand out too much. Maybe he's saving it for Sens training camp, or maybe just off to a slow start.
Zubov was invisible. I don't know what to say about him. Just seemed to be floating around out there, no drive at all.
Robin Lehner, the goalie we drafted this summer, looked sensational. Apparently, he's playing in the OHL this year with the Greyhounds, but I'm looking forward to seeing him in bingo next year, and watching him develop. Hard to tell with goalies, but he seems to be a natural, and should develop into a solid netminder.

My  :2cents for the day.

Sens Talk / Player Sightings
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:15:03 PM »
Sooo, I take wifey to Fratelli in Kanata tonight for a nice dinner. Imagine my shock when the hostess seats 4 guys at the next table, and when I look over, it's Martin Havlat and a couple of his buddies. Topics of conversation included poor management (mainly the Sens letting Chara and Redden both go for no return, and getting nothing for Havlat in trade), and the current Dany heatley situation. Smartly, Havlat stayed moot on both those topics while his buddies played armchair GM. So as we sit on the patio enjoying our dessert and drinks, we see a white Lambo pull in. When I see the driver get out and come into the restaurant, I think to myself "that looks like Pascal Leclaire". We walked past him sitting at the end of the bar on the way out, and I was pretty sure it was him, then we drove by his car, and sure enough, Ohio plates. Funny, go out on a Wednesday night in early September, run into 2 NHL players in the same small restaurant, and neither one of them even knew the other was there...

Former Attourney General Jim Bryant involved in some sort of road rage incident, which ended with him running over and killing a bicycle courier. Strange days indeed...

Sens Talk / Emery's New Mask?
« on: April 06, 2008, 07:58:45 PM »
Did anyone notice Emery's new mask Friday night, or does anyone even care anymore what Emery does? It appears to me that he may be trying to make a statement that he's ready to be part of a team. Seems he's changed from having his "personal" heroes on his previous masks, to a new black mask with a Senators theme on it, complete with gold facemask.
