Too bad about the fire so soon after the opening... I'll definitely stop by to check it out.

I've never been there, and now definitely never will.
When i nthe neighbourhood, I'd prefer D'Arcy McGee's anyways. Great food, and always an interesting selection of pints. Nice people too.

It's not just the unions that are costing jobs, it's the high-level bureaucracy that continually make horrible and costly decisions, it's the costly projects that never get finished because someone new is in charge and wants to go in a different direction.

Because of government waste, some good people (yes, I said good people) are going to lose their jobs because of it.

You mean like paying a million dollars for a pedestrian bridge over the Airport Parkway, then deciding halfway through to tear it down?
Anyone in the Stittsville area will be amused by this... that massive, castle- looking bridge on Hazeldean Road over the massive Carp River cost almost double the predicted price because it had to be reinforced. There were heavy metal forms in place when the bridge was initially built, that they paid extra to have removed for esthetic purposes... then they had to pay extra to reinforce it...
and we wonder why our taxes are so high...

When the prices were recently climbing in spite of the price of oil going down, we were told that it was because the price of oil future stock was going up. Now, both ar egoing down, and the price at the pump is still going up.
And we all know, no level of government will do anything about it, because they make too much money off the taxes.
I guess we'll all have to start using electric cars.. oh wait a minute.... Dalton announced yet another hike in hydro rates today, set to kick in May 1. DIdn't even give us one pay period's worth of notice to adjust the household budget. Good on the NDP to fight the good fight on removing taxes from hydro bills... for about 3 seconds. Way to keep that campaign promise, NDP!

Sorry, couldn't resist...  :laugh2:

well played, sir.

I would also argue that Michalek's game transitions very well into the playoffs. He goes hard to the net on a consistant basis, and battles hard for the puck, goes into the corners, etc. Problem is, he digs the puck out of the corner, gets it to Spezza while he goes to the net, and Spezza makes a perfect pass to a Ranger forward hanging around the high slot waiting for the famous no- look pass.

Sens Talk / Re: When Sens score, who's this guy??
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:53:32 PM »
He probably chats up the camera guy every game. One game I was at, I saw a fan return from the concourse during intermission with a beverage (won't say what it was) for the camera guy he was sitting beside... One of my buddies from work did the same thing.. seasons tickets, right beside the camera guy, used to chat him up all the time, and was on the jumbotron every game. Fan of the game more often than he should have been too...

Lots of diving going on in Washington last night too. I think Marchant had 3 different 5.5 dives on one shift...

I don't think Shanny was trying to say the two were equal by fining Konopka $2,500.00.   It seems that amount is standard when fining a player.  And what Konopka did was wrong.  You wanna chirp someone, do it when he's not being interviewed.
You're right. I don't think that was the intent either, but it was the message. The point I was making is that it just seems wrong that Kenopka gets the same amount for chirping as Weber gets for his WWE move, and when you factor in their salaries, it cost Kenopka a lot more. I just think that the whole system is flawed, and firmly believe that Weber should have been suspended at least for one game, to send the message that crap wasn't going to be tolerated in the post season. By not fining Weber, Shanahan declared the playoffs open season on start, and look at the crap that has happened in every game since.

Oh ya, the fine system in the NHL is a joke.  These guys can spend that much on lunch and not bat an eye.  Even to fine a rookie this much in his first game is a joke.  It should be percentage-based.  Isn't $2,500 the maximum a player can be fined?  That's a joke considering a coach can get nailed for $10,000 after insulting the officiating of a game.

I didn't know that, but if that's the case, it's a joke. What is $2500.00 to these guys? Sens and Kenopka got a combined $12,500.00 today for Kenopka chirping, while Weber gets $2500.00 for his move on Zetterberg and Boyle and Karlsson get offsetting minors for Karlsson beating up Boyle's fist with his face. The NHL's entire dicipline system, from the on- ice officiating to Shanny's office is a complete joke.

And the Sens got fined?  I must have been sleeping on this one...never heard about it?

I want to know how in Breendan Shannahan's eyes, Kenopka chirping Boyle is equal to what Weber did to Zetterberg. We thought it was a good thing when he replaced Campbell. I guess it's true that you should be careful what you wish for...

My stance on public sector jobs is simple.

Those working in the public sector should not get top dollar value as in return they get job security and benefits that are not so common in the private sector.  But thanks to the unions that was not enough, they wanted to get their members the top dollars as well and that has helped put them in the mess everything is in.  Departments spend money just so that they do not loose anything from their budgets, because any dollar not spent at the end of the year is obviously not needed, and therefore the budget is reduced, but we can't let that happen can we?

I have had co-workers leave the firm I work at to work in the justice department, they simply have no work to do yet the government keeps hiring new people to fill these unneeded positions just so that they can keep their annual budgets in tact.

i feel ya! Our civil servants have had it too good for too long, and their greedy unions are what is costing the jobs.

And all he gets is a fine!  I'm disgusted   :icon_fryingpan:

I'm right therfe with you. I like Weber as a player, but this move deserveda suspension. What if Zetterberg had a concussion?
I think "Sheriff Shanny" is taking the wrong approach What he did is essentially announce that infractions have to be extremely serious before a suspension is even considered.
BTW- to put his fine into perspective- it would be the equivilant of fining the average American worker $14.00

The have exceeded my expectations too.  Hard to find anyone that expected Ottawa to be in the playoffs this year! Thanks.  I don't know why more people don't think that way either.  I guess they are to caught up in the hype of the big box stores.   If I have a choice between a local small retailer and a big box store, I choose the small local retailer every time.  Yes sometimes it costs me a little more, but when I go back the staff at the store often remember me by name.

Off topic here I know, but does anyone know what the quality of Devinci bicycles is like?

http://www.devinci.com/home.html

I'm looking for a bike and finding ones engineered and built here in Canada does not leave along list.  Devinci's are engineered and manufactured in Chicoutimi, but I know nothing of their quality or reputation.

I don't get how people can't understand how our middle class is disappearing. Buying anything from China meeans loss of North American jobs, supporting the production and sale of knockoffs, accepting far inferior manufacturing, playing Russian roulette with toxic content, and supporting industry with absoutely no respect for the environment. Not exactly worth saving a dollar or two.

The excuse I heard today was that they're doing spring cleaning on the refineries and getting ready to switch from winter gas to summer gas. Really? That's the excuse? Good thing our governments are looking out for us to make sure we don't get screwed.

Totally agree with you both. As far as I'm concerned, every player, their agent, and 29 other GM's know how to speak English, and they're the most important people you need to communicate with. Have a bilingual AGM, or have someone in the office translate the media releases, as long as the GM is running the team the way he should and they start winning, their fans shouldn't care about hte language he speaks.

Milbury is an idiot.  Sounds like he's been hanging around Jack Edwards too much.

I'll see your idiot, and raise you a windbag. He's trying to be the next Don Cherry, but he's been concussed one too many times.

Now that they have clinched a playoff spot, hell yes I'm ready to celebrate!  :ccclapping: :drink:

I'll drink to that. The boys have far exceeded my expectatiolns of them for the year. Anything else is gravy.

LOVE your sig line by the way. I don't know why more people don't think that way.

People only have so much money. If they spend more on gas, they spend less elsewhere. This can and will affect the economy all over. Less people will go to the movies, people will delay the purchase of that new couch to replace the beat-up one, etc.

... not to mention that increased fuel costs will drastically affect the price of food, and, to a lesser degree, everything we buy.

Maybe there was breast milk in the bottle? Not every mother can supply enough and you do what you need to do.  This is just asinine.

Many years ago before the internet this crap would have been tossed out and onto the editing floor, but now days with so much garbage news sites and publicity outlets these idiots will eventually get their moronic point of view out there if they try hard enough.

Meet the Fockers... one of my all time fav movies....
You're absolutely right! I know a few proud fathers who gladly do their share of the baby feedings, using bottles of stored breast milk... I guess we're damned if we do, and damned if we don't.
