Website Status ??
« on: May 09, 2014, 08:37:05 AM »
I REALLY hope this isn't costing anyone money to run the site., I can only wonder how long it is until this forum gets shut down?

I check it everyday still but there are rarely any new posts.. Its really been a blast talking with you all over the years but we have what, 2 maybe 3 active members now? I know its the off season right now for us but I've noticed this over the past year..

Just wondering what ownership see's in our future ?

I plan on keeping the site up for a while yet.  Maybe there will be a revival in the fall with the new season.

I've been around but haven't checked the forums or anything really hockey related outside of Facebook. :)

It would be really sad if this site would have to get closed up. True though there are rarely if ever any new posts. :shake:

If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this site back up and running that would be great.  Marketing is not one of my strengths and with a budget of nothing I am not sure what can be done.  Its unfortunate but the old crowd have all left and none have replaced them.  Its a sign of the times with the way soclal media is going.

This site grew when the old official site was a troll-fest that closed down soon after. At the time, it was either this place, or a still fairly new HFBoards to discuss the Sens in a message board setting. Since then, the Sens have re-opened their message board, HFBoards is easily the biggest hockey discussion site on the internet bar none, and a large part of the active membership was young adults. 10 years later, those people are 30+, many likely with other priorities in life (not everyone posts on the internet for life). And as BD alluded to, there's also a change in the discussion model on the internet with many message boards having declining activity simply due to Twitter and such.

Too bad...I usually check daily for posts, but it's been so quiet lately... :(

Don't use much of anything else...Facebook does post all the good side of the Sens, but it's nice to hear from other fans, since I am deep behind enemy lines... :fear:
Now that I am older, I thought it was great that I seemed to have more patience.  Turns out I just don't give a damn.

It maybe too late to revive the place but honestly there was too much control from an admin who is no longer active. It pissed people off and turned them away. That person and I started as mods together we argued a lot in pms about the direction of the forum before BD bought the forum. I told that person there were a lot of young people here who wanted to feel free to say whatever they want. In the end that person won and I got canned. I'll take credit for the death of the forum thank you very much. It's a so social forum people want to get into heated arguments, this was frowned upon and that's a forum killer. It was a lot of fun I can't believe it's been 11 years. The place could be revived but it have would to be different. Let the people argue!

Interesting take on the situation Doc.  I don't blame you or any other person on the board for the decline of this site.  I noticed a sharp decline after the official forum site was brought back and the increase of other social media outlets such as twitter and facebook.  In regards to opinions and arguments those are always welcome.  Heck, we even had a Leaf fan as a moderator for a while.  What is not welcome and never will be is bashing others and swearing. I know its old school but I was raised with the ethic that bashing and swearing is nothing short of disrespectful, demeaning and in reality just means that  that person has nothing to contribute to the discussion.  As a youth many of my supper times at home led to discussion, arguing and debate with my siblings and parents around the table over many different topics but we never lost control of what we said and never bashed each other.  That was frowned upon.

It would be sad to see this site go, but then again, I am one of those who had lift and disappeared into the abyss.  I didn't get "lured" away by any other forum, or by social media (though I do have Facebook), but life happened, kids happened.  As a result, I spent less time on the computer and more time trying to messing with the girls heads.  Isn't it insane to think that it's nearly been 6 years since the post announcing the birth of my first child?

I have lurked from time to time over the years, but never felt "engaged" enough to post to what was going on.  You almost begin to feel like the "new kid" that lurks for months before deciding to register!

Wow, I registered in 2004.... thats crazy.

It still seems pretty quiet here but I am noticing that I am less engaged with the Senators all togethor. I never thought of myself as a fairweather fan but its hard to get excited for a mid-to-low level team/finish. With all the drama that has been going on with moving the arena, losing star players, internal budgets and the like, it has become a bit hard to get excited about the Season. I have honestly watched 2 periods of Senators hockey this year and we used to travel from London (when we lived there) and now from just outside Sault Ste Marie to go to multiple games per year. We have no plans to do so this year.

Leafs and Sens both kind of suck so I'm really not following hockey right now.  I'm also engaged to a girl that doesn't really care to watch during the regular season.  So it's Criminal Minds and Dragon's Den for me these days.   :laugh2:

Still peek in here everyday though.

I'm the same way FV.  I watch the Sens games when they are on but I'm not as engaged as I was before.  Right now the Sens and Leafs are tied with a 5% chance at a lottery pick.  I'd almost wish they would tank and greatly increase that number.  Imagine McDavid and Lazar on the same line? :D

I'm sure all the old timers still lurk around. Bad don't close it down. We'll all regret it if the sens get hot and start winning cups and we have no forum. I'm not going to go to another forum. If for whatever reason you do decide to close it down contact some of us old timers first see maybe one of us could take it and keep it alive. But that's a worse case scenario I hope you keep it as is. These things are cyclical. Facebook and Twitter are garbage IMO. Forums have been alive longer and are more personable.

As I mentioned before I will keep the site going as long as people keep posting even if its not on a daily basis.  The costs have gone way down in the past few years so I don't mind bankrolling this.
