Sensnetwork Fundraising Campaign
« on: September 18, 2008, 05:21:15 AM »
I know this has been done before, but the last fundraiser we did on Sensnetwork was over 2 years ago, and while the sponsors pay part of the bills, it's not enough. Now, I want to make it perfectly clear that whether someone donates or not will never in any way, shape or form affect your access to the site. We realize that some people can't afford to donate, be it because they're students or whatever, and that's alright.

However, once the donation money runs out (there's not much of it left), the cost of hosting the site falls on the shoulders of BlindDruid. In the spirit of openness, here are the costs associated with keeping this place running: hosting is $30 per month, and optional extra support (helps fix any problem faster should they arise, and they have) is $50 per year. This gives a total slightly over $400 Canadian per year.

Also, to make things more interesting throughout the season, we like to have contests where members can win a prize. The money to pay for those prizes also comes from the site's funds. A couple years ago, we gave away a Sens jersey to the winner of a 2-month Predict The Score contest (Classmate was the winner), and we would like to do something similar again this year.

Anyway, we would appreciate it if those of you who can afford it would make a donation to help cover the costs of running Sensnetwork. If the top 100 users each donated only $10, we could pay for the site for 2 years and have some money left over for prizes. You can rest assured that none of the money raised makes its way in any of the staff's pockets. It all goes towards the site.

So if you can help us out, simply click on the 'donate' button near the top of the page (just under the search box), or alternatively, simply click this link for instruction. http://www.sensnetwork.com/sensforum/donate/donate.htm

Thank you very much, and, as always, GO SENS GO!!!

Might just be me, but clicking on the PayPal link just takes me to PayPal's homepage, and logging in there just takes me to my account. Can you check that it works?

Thanks.

MH...this should be a regular shakedown every year.  Been on this site for almost two years, and didn't know how it was supported.  Never even saw the "donate" button.

I will donate to keep it alive...love getting all the hockey bantering between Sens fans, that is really missing down here in the GTA.

I'll definitely kick in also MH.

Just one question though.  Any thoughts on selling banner adverts or talking to the team about sponsorship.  I can't imagine the Sens wouldn't foot the bill for something like this because it's peanuts to them.  They may even kick in some great prizes.

I think something was attempted a couple years ago with the Sens, before I was promoted to an administrator. I will let BD answer this.

As for selling ad space, this is already going on, but the income isn't quite enough to cover everything.

I believe so, but no one clicks the ads, so the revenues are pretty much nothing.

Just thought I would give you all an update.  So far we have had 6 donors for $150.  If you guys want the contests and prizes then that total will have to be  higher than that. As Metal stated earlier, no pressure.  We just want to continue to deliver the site that the members want and one that you all want to come back to.  We have a couple of choices.  We can keep the status quo as the current sposor that we ahve mostly pays for the cost of site hosting and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the cost is worth it compared to the last hosting company.  The status quo however, will mean no contests with prizes.  The second choice is to plaster the site with ads, banners and popups which would bring in some money and would help provide prizes but agsin I think I can speak for all of us when I say that would be a huge turn off and would drive people away.  The llast choice of course is that the members kick in and help.  I know that some of you do not have the means to help out and we understand.  We are asking for those who do have an extra couple of bucks to help out.
