Just heard on the Team that Volchenkov will sit out tonight to "nurse some bumps and bruises" and Jared Cowen will make his NHL debut tonight.  Michalek will play as well tonight.

Regin - Spezza - Alfredsson
Foligno - Fisher - Kovalev
Michalek - Cullen - Neil
Ruutu - Kelly - Winchester

Every line has the potential to produce at any given time.

That's cool.  A-Train needs it.  I'm hoping Michalek will be like Alfie and Spezza when they came back and plays his best hockey of the season.

What the hell.  If the goalie goes after a player, LET him go.  That douchebag that jumps Neil should get tossed.

*EDIT*  Hey Smitty, if you dont wanna get tripped by a player then STAY IN YOUR &#&%# NET you dummy.

Did Smith start that?

And Ohlund's gotta be gone for third man in.

As much as I like seeing this kind of stuff, I don't want us to be doing this now.

Damnit roughing.  Should have been fighting so Ohlund gets tossed.

They need to make goalies fair game if they're going to do that kind of thing.

This is f$^#ing bull&%#@ that Ohlund gets out of that without a penalty, let alone being tossed

I can't say I'm too concerned about Kovalev's injury, but he's probobly better than Shannon.

That powerplay wasn't too impressive.

Blown 5-3. It's not a good sign that when the sens lose they usually lose handily. They're never really in the game. Like now. This is why they have the worst goal differential of any team in the playoffs.

If Downie does anything stupid, the ref's had better toss him. It would be just like him to try to take a player out just before the playoffs when he's got nothing to play for.

I haven't noticed him much. Probobly because of all the powerplays.

If he knows what's good for him he'll do something if anyone goes after one of our regulars.

Me too, you streaming it?  Ya they are morons

Turned out to be a decent game, they owned the lightning in the second half but that many pps will do that.  Shootout loss but even in OT they had the Lightning pinned in their zone.

Only loss today is Kovalev... so no loss at all.  Bring in Cheechoo :)

Yes.  I agree with their comments about bad officiating........but come on - where's the professionalism!!  The colour guy has no business being in sports broadcasting.  I would be embarrassed to have to be the company signing his cheques.

Atleast the sens fought and tied the game. And we didn't lose it in regulation. I hope Elliott starts next game and wins so that he can get 30 wins.

Yeah I'm happy with the single point too. I've been a lot more bitter after other shootout loses. Although, it was one of those shootouts you can't help but hate. The sens completely dominated the 2nd half of that game, and overtime, only to lose on the last shooter like that.

But you win some, you lose some. Hopefully the sens complete the season series rout against Buffalo and carry the momentum into the playoffs.

Poor effort to being but they ramped it up to end it.

Now, on a different note, if Montreal loses their remaining game and both Philly and NYR win their remaining two the Habs will miss the playoffs. :)

Philly and the Rangers have to play each other back to back and I think they need to split with a three pointer in the mix before the Habs have a chance of being knocked out.  The Habs would also have to lose to the Leafs Saturday night.

Ah, i didn't know who they played for their two games so I guess that makes it very difficult to knock the Habs out.

The Sens came out flat and the Lightning took advantage of that plus the Sens took four straight minors in the second half of the first period which didn't help their cause much.  Have to admit, that was a nice goal by St. Louis.

It was good to see the guys come back in a 'nothing' game and down 3-0 and tie the game up on three PP goals!  It made the game a bit more interesting, to be sure.

It was kind of funny.....I had just finished saying to my hubby and son that the thing I hated about games like this (playing against a non-playoff team with nothing on the line for us) was that morons like Downie, and others, could take advantage of the situation to do something stupid and cause an injury.  About a minute later, Kovalev went down!  Gotta say....better him than Alfie, Fisher, Spezza, Cullen, etc., etc.  It's not that I want to see anyone injured but if Kovalev is out for any amount of time I have to think it's not going to make a huge difference!

With all the PP and PK situations, young Jared Cowen didn't get much in the way of shifts/icetime on the night so I have no firm opinion.  Once again, I felt as nervous for his folks as I did for him.

The brief fight between Hedman and Fisher was interesting insofar as you could pretty much read Fisher's lips when they were separated and he said something like "I wasn't going to fight you" which seems par for the course for Fish.  That was quite the hit Hedman took from Fisher and Hedman did not return to the game as he had "an upper body injury" as a result.

It was a chippy game and I am personally glad that we didn't sustain any other injuries.

Can hardly believe that the game tomorrow night is #82!!  How time flies when your team has a decent season (particularly when everyone was counting them out of the playoffs at the beginning of the year!).  Really looking forward to the game against the Sabres!!!

GO SENS GO!!!!!!!! :CHEERLEADER:

Wierd game.  To start I scratched my head at a non-call on a blatant trip on Kovalev in front of the net at the start of the game, then Ottawa gets called for similar stuff to start a Sens parade to the penalty box.  Then the refs sent a parade of Bolts to the box in the 2nd half of the game.  Tad bi-polar there.

Ottawa got some real quality PP practice time in at least, and it got much, much better as the game went on - which it needed after sucking for  6 minutes or so in a row with a PP, including almost 2 minutes of 5 on 3, and no goals.

Didn't like the first goal on Elliot - way to deep in his net, and he gave St. Louis a hole that shouldn't have been there.  It was a hell of a shot to take advantage of the error.

For a game that meant nothing, some bizarre stuff.  Smith the goalie jumping Chris Neil - deathwish??, Hedman dropping the gloves to swing at Fisher and his game is over after Fisher rocks him with one very solid punch, Mezaroes gasping and clutching his throat as he panic skates to the bench.   OT was the only appropriate end to the game.  Of course, Kovalev is hurt and the shootout is the only thing he is contributiing to these days.

Foligno had his best game in a while.  Looked like he benefitted from the increased ice time when Kovalev went down.

As expected, Cowan looked like a deer in the headlights.

All I want is the guys to get through the next game without getting banged up.

As mentioned for Montreal to get kicked out:

1. Montreal loses to Toronto
2. at least one Boston win (they jump over Montreal)
3. 2 Rangers wins for 4 points since 3 points would tie them with Montreal and Montreal has the tie-breaker
4. One of the Rangers win must happen in extra time since the extra point would tie Philly and Montreal, but Philly would have more wins.

Long shot, but I still hope!!!

No matter what happens there are 2 or 3 teams that really shouldn't be in the playoffs.  They should have crossover teams like in the AHL.

He was  back on the ice during the first shift of the third period, so I assume he's fine.

Seems to me that the commentators on the Sportsnet broadcast said during the third that training staff for the Lightning stated that it had hit his jaw.

Fisher was a gentleman with the kid.  It was a half punch and he didn't followup.  He could have destroyed him and he totally let up.

Neil on the other hand continues to prove that he's a moron.

I think he's getting dumber as he gets older.  He slewfoots a goalie and then yaps to the press about how the linesman should have let them go and Ohlund shouldn't have jumped in.

From what I saw the goalie seemed to be doing pretty good when the linesman jumped in but be that as it may, did Ohlund do anything you wouldn't expect your defenceman to do if he saw his goalie getting into it with a fighter on the other team?

Neil has come full circle with me.  I thought he was a punk when he first came along, 3 years ago I thought he was great at what he did and he looked like a hockey player but now I think he's back to being a punk and I actually think he hurts the Sens now more than he helps them.  Too many stupid penalties and brain cramps.
Title: Re: Game #81 Discussion ~ SENS @ Lightning ~ Thursday Apr. 8
Post by: rose on April 09, 2010, 07:14:06 PM
Have to agree to disagree with you as far as the "punk" designation.  There are far more players in the League who wear that moniker for me to put Neil in with them.

I was not paying a lot of attention to the game - more listening than watching - until the score was 3-3 and I sat to watch the rest of it so I only saw replays of the incident.  Sounded like there was lots of stupidity going on overall.  I will say, however, that the TB goalie sure liked to wander all over the ice...very active goalie in that respect.

And I didn't think it was "wrong" for Ohlund to jump into the fray...most players would if their goalie was involved with a player - fighter or otherwise.  As far as Neil's comments afterwards, I didn't hear them.

I disagree. He definitely can go too far sometimes. I'm not a huge fan of some of his antics, like the arm waving after fights.. But that line with Ruutu is arguably the most consistent line the sens have recently. In the sense that they're grinders and the hard work seems to be paying off. Even if the "better" lines aren't having much success. It's a good checking line right now. And I can think of other Senators who take dumb penalties that have absolutely no benefit. Like hooking calls in the offensive zone. At least Neil's riling people up.
Title: Re: Game #81 Discussion ~ SENS @ Lightning ~ Thursday Apr. 8
Post by: OS on April 09, 2010, 11:42:52 PM
Neil has 21 points in 67 games played.  9 goals and 12 helpers.  28 minor penalties, no out of line this year.   He tripped up Smith and got a penalty for it.  A goalie swinging his blocker at someone is dangerous.   It looked like he was skating away and tripped Smith, but I don't believe that stuff is by "accident".  More a message to stop wandering around pretending you are a D with an immunity shield.  Smith was all over the place in that game, getting in to the play to much.   Neil shouldn't have done it but he was called.

Ya it was all just a messy situation nothing out of the ordinary though, don't see what the big deal is.

I would like to see the Sens replace Neil with someone a little more I don't know what.  Neil to me is kind of unsure of what he is and who he is.  I haven't seen him deliver really big hits which is what I expect from him.  I think he's trying to be a power forward but he isn't and I just think that the Sens should really look for another direction to go in, try to land a real power forward, someone who one way or another can make an impact in a game.  It's not that I don't like him, I just would like to see a little more from a guy that plays his sort of role.
