The race for winning the division is not over yet. Elliot should be sharp to keep his shutout streak alive as long as possible. Not having Centre Ice, it is nice having all these games on RDS for the last half of March.

That's 5 minutes.

That's bullshit.  Yes he pushed him from behind but VERY VERY lightly.  Kaletta basically tripped over his own feet.

I have to wonder how popular Kaleta is on his own team....Fisher was not exactly swarmed by Sabres after the hit.   :smily677:

Good period by the Sens overall.  Elliott made some good saves - although not a lot it seemed since many Buffalo shots towards the net seemed to go wide - particularly in scrambles to keep his 'streak' alive.  He's at 163 min. 43 sec. not allowing a goal.

Nice goal by Kelly for the 1-0 lead....he just kept at it until it went in.

Ok, he definately embellished that a bit.

Here's a question.  If after a review by the league of the Fisher hit and they decide it was a dive and should not have been a 5 and a game, should they suspend Kaletta for being a douche?  I mean, if a guy is given 5 and a game which COULD lead to a 2-game suspension then the guy who dove should be disciplined too.

Ok, he definately embellished that a bit.

Ya think?

He'll go on the dreaded 'diver' list.

Yikes!

That's gotta be his best blocked shot of the year. (If you can call it that)

Volchenkov takes a shot in the jaw better than Hecht takes a shot in the anke.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I was hoping Elliot could get the new shutout record. :(

And what is with the Sabre's goal horn?  Friggin sounds like they won the Stanley Cup for crying out loud.

ROFL, Montidor (sp?) complaining about the high stick being missed.  I replayed it in slow mo and he was a good two feet past the stick when he whipped his head back as if he got shot.  Players shouldn't need to embellish hits to get calls.  If it's a penalty and the ref SEES it, they'll call it.  If not? Oh well, shit gets missed all the time in hockey.

This game is getting zany. Open hockey just benefits the hungrier team. And right now that's definitely the sabres.

Time to calm things down. If I were Clouston I'd call a time out but he won't. I don't think coaches are creative enough with time outs.

Meh. They have enough TV timeouts to work with.

I don't agree. That's obviously what most coaches think, wanting to save it for the last 2 minutes if they need it. But there's what.. 2 tv timeouts per period and often there are long stretches without one. After that 2 on 0 goal the sabres were all over the sens for 5 minutes straight. Frantic hockey. Clouston didn't end up using it first or last.

But it's great they beat the sabres. I think the northeast title is out of reach but I enjoy that the sens own Buffalo. It gets right under Sabres fans skin. If only we could get them in the 1st round.

Sens have made a nice adjustment for Elliott playing the puck.  In the last two games, there is almost always a player available for a short safe pass from him, so Elliott isn't winging it blindly along the boards to the other guys.  Only once tonight did he play one that was a bit out of controll.

Big shot advantage for the Sabres, but it didn't feel like it.  Sens are back to being tough in front of their net and not letting much through cleanly.

Alfie is da man to

Impressive 41 stops by elliott. Alfie is now PPG with 63points. Hopefully he can score 70 points. Regin still impressing me. I'm glad kovie is gone :icon_hiding2:

There's 3. First stoppage after the 6 min. mark, first stoppage after the 10 min. mark and the first stoppage after the 14min. mark (icings and goals excluded).

I really enjoyed the game last night!  You could say it was a "character" win in the sense that they kept up pretty much the same pace from start to finish and they seemed to have an excellent compete level, particularly while killing off the five minute penalty to Fisher (which was actually three minutes overall since for two minutes in the middle of the five, a Sabre was in the box too!).

Many players stepped up for the game but a few highlights for me were:

Peter Regin's goal....that puck went in, rimmed the inside of the net and back out again so fast that I couldn't track the puck until the replay!!!  And I am Canadian!!  What a shot!   :spin:

And it's official.......Volchie is NOT human.  He took a hard shot off the lower half of his face, went to the ice like he'd been shot, had training staff out there to check him out, and on his way to the bench he and Townon were joking, all smiles and chuckles.  I believe he did not miss a shift as a result!  He is certainly made of something that most of us aren't!!   :oh oh:

Spezza had a strong game, getting another goal for his 20th of the season on a nice tip on an Alfie shot and he made some amazing passes playing with various partners once the lines got all juggled due to Fisher's game misconduct.

And not having Alfie playing the PK all the time has improved his overall game, IMHO.  Shaving off some of his minutes when others can step up and be effective on the PK is a strong move.  I was glad that they gave him the ENG with less than a second left since he was tripped up on his way to the net.  If only to tick off those Buffalo fans!

The defense corps played well and were effective in clearing out the front of the net, for the most part, for their 'tender.  It's nice to have some strong bodies in the lineup that can do this game in and game out.  And it is clear to me that Carkner is still suffering from some injury to his hand since he has not fought recently and any scrums he just goes in to pair-up but seems to have no inclination to get involved.  A couple of times last night Kaleta and/or Mair were agitating and prime candidates to get tuned up but weren't.  I know that Clouston doesn't want Carkner in the box for long stretches but that's never stopped him before, particularly with a little puke like Kaleta (who, it seems pretty much all the commentators I have heard including on TSN, etc., dove into the end boards when Fisher tapped him  :smily677:),

Smith had a solid game last night and good on him!  Although he pretty much lost his fight (can't remember with whom), he didn't back down either (first fight of the season during a game between these two teams).  He had some good solid shifts.

And, last but not least, Elliott was very strong in nets and was full value for the win.  The Sabres were firing from all angles on him, there was often a lot of traffic in front of the net and the first goal on him was flukey (off a skate) but it didn't get him down at all.  He is tracking the puck very well, not letting out a ton of rebounds and challenging very well.  Particularly in the last five minutes of the game when the Sabres really turned it on.   :icon_bowdown2:

A solid win by the Sens.   :ccclapping:

I have to disagree Rose.  Them giving him the ENG screwed up my prediction.

But I do agree on the rest of the points.  hehe
