A bit on an insomniac? I have days like that as well. Went to bed at 11:30 and was posting on the site at about 3:50 although I had been awake since 2:30 a.m. We have a couple of other members like that as well...it's rare you don't have someone here during the wee hours.

Yeah, I can never sleep when I need to. I try to avoid coming on the computer, though, because that'll just guarantee I not get any sleep. So instead, I stay up and watch terrible infomercials.

Infomercials have got to be the lowest form of programming that exists and should put you to sleep just out of boredom. I've been an insomniac for as long as I can remember (the brain cells simply don't know when to slow down) and have learned not to fight it. I actually do my best thinking during the wee hours and am able to get more done during that time than during the day...no phones or interruptions, although I have to be quiet so as not to wake everyone else up

You could keep yourself amused for a hour or so with computer games but even that gets to be a bore after awhile. Time to take up reading that novel you've been putting off or learn to knit I guess. I take it that you're not in a customer service type of business. I generally worked for newspapers in advertising which was extremely hectic but I'd rather be too busy than bored out of my mind...I hope you don't have too many days like this or is it just in the summer months that's it's quieter for you?

I only work here during the summer since I go to school full time. It's my first year here, so I'm not sure if it's ALWAYS this quiet during the summer. Oh, well. I'm not in customer service, no. I work in a legal office.

I've started reading Michael Moore's Stupid White Men so at least this gives me the chance to finish that.. and get paid for it.

Ever thought of offering your services to CNIB to do Books on Tape - you simply read whatever out loud.  really improves your skills too.

Or you could do some proofreading for University profs or whatever.  Nothing like improving your outlook based on what other are doing that works or doesn't.

Sorry you are down a bit today.

Why am I not surprised to find that JL and WWB are both night-hawks like myself?  I seldom hit the sack before 4:00 a.m. and then it's up at 7:00 a.m. with the kids.  Been existing on little sleep for years and years now!  If I get more than three or four hours, then I sink into a coma-like sleep and am almost impossible to wake up!  When I was in high school, about thirty years ago, my mother sent me for a sleep study and I was pronounced an "efficient sleeper"!  Came in handy when I used to work the MD telethon as a floor director and things like that!   It is, however, a very good fit with the type of work I do from home because I get my most done in the wee hours when everyone is asleep and all's quiet here at home.  Perfect type of job while raising young'uns. My sleep routine came in particularly handy when my kids were babies because I was always awake for the middle-of-the-night feedings so it was not bothersome at all.   They're not that  young anymore and I do more of my research/editing during the day now, but still manage to stay up until the birds are singing since it's just my routine now!

I guess some people simply don't need as much sleep as others. Not much we can do about it except make those waking hours useful somehow. I can take about 3 days without sleep but it does catch up with me on the 4th day only to start the cycle again on the 5th. I've been like that for so long that I wouldn't know what to do with a full night's sleep if there is such a thing :?

Szuper and Metal are on the site in the wee hours so I imagine they have similar sleep patterns as us 'night hawks'. I have to say though, I think more clearly from about 11 p.m. until daybreak than I do at any other time of the day...unfortunately most of my world is sleeping and not in the mood to chat

Spend a lot of time talking to our Japanese and Australian posters do you!

I used to be that way when I was playing.  And I'd wake up at the slightest noise.  Now I sleep like a (noisey, I'm told) baby.  If I have to give an answer, I just say my conscience is clear, so I sleep better :)

My most productive hours, in terms of work, are between 1-5 am normally.  That's when I do the bulk of my editing.  When I was on the school board, that's when I would do the bulk of my reading of information in preparation for meetings, which is also when I would write my notes, etc.  I can't, however, watch television (although it can be on in the background for 'company') or I would fall asleep.

As a result of my late hours, I have ended up being the "taxi" service for my daughter and her pals when they venture downtown for nights out...it costs a load of cash to taxi home and since I'm up anyway, they call me and I go down to get them (happens now and then....they stay around locally most of the time).  I really don't mind....I'm up anyway and it's a break from my work.  They do, however, have to fork over the gas money for the 'service'...and I have received lovely gifts on my birthdays/Christmas from my passengers! :)

Love it opera

Reminds me of my father-in-law's coffee. He worked in the lumber camps up in northern Ontario when he was younger and learned to make 'campfire coffee' which consisted of 2 parts water to 1 part ground coffee which was then left to boil until most of the water had evaporated. He said that if a horseshoe couldn't stand up in it, then it wasn't strong enough...what a character he was

And just for you, to keep you in a good frame (of mind)

Recently a thief in Paris nearly got away with stealing several paintings from the Louvre. However, after planning the crime, getting in and out through security, he was captured only 2 blocks away when his Econoline van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a complex crime and yet make such an obvious error, he replied:

(brace yourself)

(this is going to hurt ...)

( ... you've been warned ...)

Say Azamour win the St Jame's Stakes at Ascot (funny, they run on grass and clockwise, instead of the way we do over here).  Saw a few very wet Wimbledon days and some truly exquisite Opera.  Midsummer Night's Dream (Britten) was staged by Canadian Robert Carson and was fabulous.  The Faust at Covent Garden was one of the best I've seen Terfel was an electric Mephistophiles and Alagna and Georghiu sparkled as Marguerite and Faust.  Simon Keenlyside sang Valentin, which is a small role for him, but has the best aria.  Glyndebourne and garsington are always fun with picnics on the grounds at the intervals.  Quite civilized.  Must find you a proper English Tea tomorrow!

Sounds like you had a great time operasen. I do love my High Tea :D
