General Hockey Discussions / Re: 2011 off-season moves
« on: July 04, 2011, 10:46:03 PM »
I kinda wonder if Ottawa was on Heatley's no trade list. It seems obvious that it would be, if not in all 10 spots, but there was absolutely no chance Murray would ever take Heatley back so wouldn't he just be wasting a pick? Not Edmonton, though, I bet they'd still take him.

I doubt Ottawa was on the list as he knew that we'd never trade for him anyways.

Sens Talk / Re: Anderson signed in Ottawa for 4 years ????
« on: March 21, 2011, 11:40:29 PM »
Maybe. But probably more expensive, and given we've seen what Anderson is capable of in Ottawa it would seem a decision with considerably more risk than upside to not sign Anderson now in the hope of getting Bryzgalov in the summer. Bryzgalov could come here and stink, or more likely we could aim for him, not get him and then find that Anderson either has a better option or will cost considerably more to stay.

As decisions go this is towards the easier end of the scale for me.

I wasn't suggesting we go for him. I was just stating that he is only a year older and one could argue a better goalie.

« on: March 21, 2011, 07:43:53 PM »
I kind of wish the suspension would have been longer imo.  But with regard to Lemieux tacking on additional days or whatever for a team suspension, wouldn't that violate some part of the CBA or piss of the NHLPA?  He can issue a verbal statement or instruct the coach to put him as a healthy scratch (yes, that would in effect be the same as tacking on extra days) but that's about it.

I'd be even happier if the Pens just bought him out and said "There's the door!"

I'm not sure if it does violate terms or not (I'm assume it would) because don't the playoffs not "count" towards the players?

Not long enough  :icon_angry2:

Agreed.

Obviously a signing that needed to be done. I see way more value in signing Anderson, rather then a guy like Bryzgalov, Roloson or Vokoun who are all towards the end of their careers. Anderson is only 29 and has proven himself in not only in Colorado but Florida a couple years ago. His numbers in Colorado this season doesn't worry me all that much. That whole team has been awful, especially their defence. Now all we need is reliable backup at a cheap price. Lehner needs more time in Bingo obviously. Not sure yet, if McElhinney is top option at backup or not. I think Henrik Karlsson (calgary's backup) who is UFA this summer, has all the makings of being a #1 goalie in the NHL. I'd love to see Murray go after him. Could be a diamond in the rough.

Bryzgalov is only a year older than Anderson and I would argue a better goalie than him as well.

I don't like this at all. This is Murray giving another player a huge deal based on a short period of great work. Anderson was pretty bad for Colorado this year - there is a reason they felt comfortable trading him for Elliott. He was 13-15, 3.28gaa and .897 save percentage for the Avs this season. He's been good in the past, but so was Gerber.

Are you kidding me? He has a cap hit of just over 3 million and we will not be in even close to the cap and we have to reach the floor some how. Also he isn't a bad goalie, he has played well since getting here and really who cares if he stinks it up like he did with the Avs it will help us get a good draft pick in the coming years.

The police are now looking into the hit. This is just dumb...

Because $3.5 mil is a lot of dough to pay someone who's not an NHL'er.

Yea but it is still $3.5 mil just spread out over two years and against the cap (not knowing that the cap wouldn't mean much to us now then).

Really? Because Cheechoo has 47 points in 55 games in the AHL with Worcester. Also, buying him out so that it counts against our cap for two years instead of leaving him in the AHL saved us money how?

Didn't find this anywhere else and I thought it would be interesting to show what Cheechoo has been up to. He was on the AHL All-Star team and was a starter.
Here is the link: http://theahl.com/2011-all-star-rosters-unveiled-p168718

He also has 47 points in 55 games. Remind me why we bought him out of his contract when we had him in the AHL already?

Well right now, we currently have 6 defencemen signed for next year (Gonchar, Kuba, Phillips, Karlsson, Carkner, Lee). Odds are we carry 7 defencemen with the big club. I think Cowen should be a lock, and if Runblad looks good enough room could be made for him. The ideal candidates I would trade would be Kuba obviously and possibly Lee. Both will be in the final years of their deals which makes it easier to trade them as the season progresses. If not, sending them to minors is also an option too. Just play out their contracts, and take a loss if need be. But no point in buying out Kuba by for any reason. Why punish us cap wise? It's not like he's a cancer in the room or anything or has a really long expensive contract.

We did buy out Jonathan Cheechoo with one year left on him while he was in the minors....

Still too much for me considering what he brings to the table these days, which isn't much.. He has lost a few steps in his last few seasons. I would have been fine with somewhere around 2m per . I know alot of you will say its absurd but really, this new contract was based on his play years ago and the fact that we didn't want to lose him for nothing.
His skating is great, not great, scoring worse, and he rarely takes the body...
I know alot of you guys like it, mostly because of loyalty.........
But I dont get it...  :icon_questionable:

Rickman, Im glad that he refused a trade as well...Only to show how Murray handi-caps us in the long run by handing out NMC's like candy.

We do have to hit the cap floor you know. We can't just ice a bunch of rookies and a few vets that are being paid very little. We have to put money somewhere, why not someone who is loyal like Phillips?

Let's be honest here. Who cares about the salary. It's not like the Sens are going to be spending to the cap for a few years and therefore Phillips' contract is not going to cause problems fitting players under the cap.
This.

I hope to God this is a sign and trade.........a guy willingly turning down a chance to chase the Stanley cup is not the type of guy I want mentoring anybody on this team...
You have to be **** kidding right? You want to trade someone who WANTS to play here because he didn't want to leave? So you'd rather have the young guys learn that if you don't do what we (mostly you) want than they can get the **** out? No thanks.
