Check out www.ottawagolf.ca there are some knowledgeable people there that will direct you to the right place and what you should do.

But he is solidly in 3rd   :smily1263:

Actually tied for second and it may look like its going to stay that way.  What an embarrassment.   :icon_thumbsdown:

I bet that wall has a better shot at overtaking Sawchuk than Eddie.

Don't under estimate the wall, its pretty damn good.

OK, once again the point has been missed. Make sure you pay attention this time.

Splattering the home team all over the front page of the local paper is fine and to be expected. It helps sell papers, sports fans like it, etc. I have no problem there. I like it myself.

What's funny is how they portray a 3-2 victory vs Anaheim in December that ended a 3-game losing streak as some monumental event. 'IT'S OVER!' sounds like the headline you use at the end of a war. 'IT'S OVER!' is a headline you use for a game or event that actually has significance. So, it's not the fact that they used a large image, it's the message. If that paper had instead said 'LEAFS END STREAK' or 'SUPER KIDS!' or something like that, I wouldn't have even mentioned it.

Maybe I've gone over your head a bit on this one. Sorry 'bout that.  ;)

I think you should send your complaints to the Sun.  They've obviously got you all excited or upset about their headlines because they are in the business of selling newspapers and putting something to catch peoples attention to purchase them is their intention.  Good luck and just so you know about my thoughts on this issue....IT'S OVER.  :)

I took Tiger's shot.  Just because of how amazing that it went it but also because of the significant push he was making in a major tournament.

Quinn actually let it out of the bag the other night that it is in fact his groin.

Ya he was going to play the last game but they took him out for precautionary so he doesn't injury it anymore.  He's expected to be fine for Saturday.  But if not, I'm not any less confident with Tellqvist playing, he's been pretty good but he'd have to play amazing this Saturday.

Not one bit. I don't read the Toronto Sun. My interest is purely comedic.

Hey, I'm all for lots of hockey coverage, and in the GTA, I expect that to be Leafs coverage. If they want to put the Leafs on the front page of every paper they produce, go nuts. But it's just so sad (and funny and pathetic) how much they make of a three-game losing streak. Such a clear sign of the myopia we all know Leafs fans suffer from.

So would you say this is sad, funny and pathetic?   This happens in every city that has a Sun paper.

If your gonna bash the Leafs you've got to do a better job of that!

I just find it hilarious that they use a huge headline like 'IT'S OVER!' to describe a measely 3-game losing streak in December. Total exaggeration.

The Sun chain of papers across Canada just sucks in general.  I remember a while back they said the reading level of the Sun was at a grade 4 level while the Ottawa Citizen was grade 8.  Nothing like big pictures and flashy headlines to catch someones attention.  Unfortunately this is one of our sources of information.

The Sun just sucks. I don't read tabloids.

about tmlfans.ca... I think you find a lot more crazy-ass stuff over there just because of the volume of posters in comparison to over here. Sure I post over there once in awhile (I'll never tell you who I am :suspicious: ), but forget about arguing with those who have their opinions set on something -- their reasoning is just weird a lot of the times.
And there's been a new wave of members ever since hockey started up again and I have no idea where they come from, but they sure are annoying.

But yeah... that's why I post here more often than tmlfans, just because it's a tighter-knit community and there are only a *couple* of you dense morons. ;)

I post over there (as well as a number of sens fans on here that I see) and I don't mind it.  Its not childish and the mods do a good job of keeping the board in order.  But like you were saying, there have been a number of newer people and obviously with a bigger fanbase your going to get more crazy suggestions and comments in numbers.  Some people are controversal, some always see the sky as falling, and others are homers.  But anywhere you go you will find that (this site included).

10
Of course I didn't mean you.

I was merely making a comment about the board which no individual should take as a commentary on themselves, but feel free to apply generally to everyone else.

Of course that is going to happen.  Anytime you have a group of people as large as these hockey forums are, there is always going to be a people in that group that will say this needs to happen or so and so needs to be traded.  It happens on every board and in every sport.

I didn't think the Lindros penalty was a dive as much as the Allison penalty was, Lindros turned around and hooked his stick around the players ankle...the Allison penalty could have went the other way, the LA player stuck his leg out, essentially tripping Allison, but Allison got the penalty....The Lindros penalty was a penalty!

I agree, the Allison call was bad and should have been a non-call or a call to the LA player for almost pulling a knee on knee hit.  But the Lindros trip call was the right call, no doubt about it on both.  Garon played a solid game, turned about 37 shots and saved LA from defeat.  I’m still trying to figure out why Domi was out there with 2 minutes left, his play this season has been brutal, I wish they would move him to the press box but image the stir he would make if that happened.  It’s a lose-lose situation.

Anything But Hockey / Re: Banking Help...
« on: December 06, 2005, 04:16:04 PM »
After my experience earlier this year, I would never do anything other than call a mortgage broker.  I sat down with them for about 15 minutes, gave them some information, and they called a few days later with a list of variable and fixed rate options (as well as some alternative lending solutions) from dozens of sources.  Much better than dealing with a bank directly.  If you're interested, PM me and I'll tell you which company I used and which rep I dealt with (she was great).

EDIT:  Oh yeah, the important part:  They got me a rate over a half-point lower than the posted rates at any bank, including ING Direct.

Yes Hatch is right, go with a mortgage broker when trying to score a good mortgage.

I have an account at Scotiabank (main banking) and TD.  So far both are good, my only compliant about Scotia is their brutal hours that the bank is actually open.  But their online banking is fantastic.  I have no complaints about it what so ever.  Also, just yesterday I wanted to go in and talk to a personal banker about some investments, call some time in the morning and was able to see someone within a couple of hours.

I think if you go with any major bank (Scotia, TD, RBC, CIBC, BMO) they are all fairly the same.

Tough break, stupid rule.  The league either has to get rid of the rule or apply it to everyone like I said before when Gretz and Doan got off.

Could someone who has bothered to register at TMLFANS go and sort them out in this thread : http://www.tmlfans.ca/forums/index.php/topic,44016.0.html

What in the hell has Spezza ever done to be labelled as cocky? Smile too much??

Check the bio on the poster and see where she is from.   :A_laughing_matter:

Sens Talk / Re: Cause for automatic dismisal! [CBC Announcers]

Which series was this? I remember (in the first round) he called the Bruins-Habs series and he was great in that. Cuthbert called the Canucks-Flames and Cole called the Leafs-Senators series.

Your right, it was the Habs series.  It must of been more then a couple of years ago.  :icon_duh:

I'm surprised Wittman did such a poor job.  I remember last season he did some of the games out west for the playoffs and he was great.  Maybe being out for so long he has began to lose it.

I'm sorry but Tugnutt is not good at color.  Listening to him is the equavilent to watching some of the American television feeds.  Some of them are so dry and uninteresting.

Cuthbert is missed and was poised to be the head play by play sooner or later.  Mark Lee is pretty good, he did a hell of a job calling CFL this year and should step in to do NHL on a regular basis I think.  Another person I like on CBC is Steve Armitage, he doesn’t do too much hockey but he has that voice that can capture the audience.

Even though Cole mixes players names up and is confused about the play half of the game, there is no one else there that has his voice or enthusiasm of the game when calling it.

18
Let's say it was.

Then why don't they call everything? Especially everything that is in clear view?

Because ref's are human too, they aren't programmed machines and sometimes they make mistakes.

Yes there was a few missed calls in the game but I believe that last trip was a fair call, Antropov was basically tackled at the knees and was tripped over and Rivet didn't touch the puck.  To me that is clearly tripping.

I'm still not sure why the Habs goal was disallowed.  The ref seemed to be way out of position when he called it off because he was skating towards the net so his view was not good.  Thats the only reason I can think of, otherwise it was just a bad call and should have stood a goal or someone should have been penalized.  Either the goalie was interfered with like the ref said and the Habs player should have got a penalty (not the right call), or Kronwall should have been sent off for holding(should have been the right call).

Like I said, they are human and we still don't like Kerry Fraser!  :P

You have to give some credit to the Bruins, they were flying out there. It wasn't all bad play on the Leafs' part, there was some good energetic play by the Bs -- they skated hard and it paid off for them.

For sure.  They played tough and knew this was a must win for them. Of course we usually like to point out how crappy our teams tend to play when they lose.

20
That was a brutal game.  I don't think they did one thing right.  It looks like that extra day off put them to sleep.  Oh well, time to bounce back; two big games back to back.
