Sens Talk / Alfredsson is the longest serving active captain!
« on: July 26, 2009, 10:06:05 PM »
With sakic retiring and koivu not with the habs, alfredsson now has the torch. Since 1999-2000. Congrats alfie!

Sens Talk / Next summer will be a VERY busy one
« on: July 07, 2009, 04:35:03 PM »
I'm a bit worried about next summer.

UFAs are:

Schubert (hopefully gone before then or wont be resigned)
Donovan (will maybe be gone before or will most likely retire after contract)
Shannon (it all depends on the season he has and what his price range is and what we can afford)
Smith (hopefully gone before then or will retire after contract)
Volchenkov ( i have no idea what will happen)
Carkner (he probably will want to go to a team where he'll play in the nhl)
Auld (wont be back to make room for elliott or will be gone before)

Now this is where it gets scary.

RFAs are:

Foligno (depending on year, should get a hefty raise in the price range of 1.5-3 mil)
Winchester ( i dont know what the plans are for this guy)
Bass (depends if he makes our team this year)
Zubov (probably gone)
Regin (depends a lot on this year)
Lee (he'll want 1.5-2.5 if he has a good year)
Picard (he'll probably want a 1.5 mil if he has a decent healthy year)
Campoli (he'll probably be looking for something like lee if not more if he has a a good offensive year)
Hennessy (gone)

So we're left with 11 players signed (1 goalie, 2 defense, and 8 forwards) with a cap hit of just over 46 million.

So we would need to get a goalie, 4 d, and 4 forwards for under 5 million equalling $555,555.00 per player.

Scary isn't it? Heatley needs to get traded ASAP.

Sens Talk / Most hated senator?
« on: June 19, 2009, 11:12:57 AM »
Alright, I will give a list of the potential most hated player that ever played on the sens. If you think it's not someone on the list, let us know who it is and why.

Too bad we can't make polls on here, no one ever checks out the "poll center".

A) Alexei Yashin - holding out while having a contract and cancelling his $1,000,000 donation to the NAC was it??
B) Brian Berard - Not wanting to play here
C) Danny Heatley - Requesting a trade
D) Alexandre Daigle - for not reaching his potential ( i know its a funny one, but i heard lots of boos when he played here)
E) Zdeno Chara - For wanting "captain or nothing"
F) Ray emery for his childish attitude and rebellious style

I personally still think yashin did the worst. Thankfully, we dealed with that problem the best.

Due to arena's being booked, bingo might start the playoffs in ottawa. Sucks for bingo, but could get many people who live in ottawa on their bandwagon. It would be sweet if their playoffs games were televised too.

Trade Deadline 2009 / Comrie
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:02:01 PM »
So what's the deal with him? We hear that we want to either sign or deal all are UFA's so we don't lose them for nothing. Yet i hear nothing of if comrie will resign or if they can't get a deal done, trade him. No point of keeping him and letting him walk if he could possibly fetch us a second.

Sens Talk / This could be the summer to turn it around
« on: February 06, 2009, 09:47:56 AM »
According to nhlnumber.com we will be 45.5 mil next year with these guys under contract

Forwards:

heatley
spezza
alfredsson
vermette
kelly
ruutu
foligno
donovan
winchester
bass
zubov
regin
smith

Defense:

phillips
smith
volchenkov
schubert
lee
picard
carkner

And Auld as the only goalie. We have neil, mccamond, gerber, and kuba as UFAs and Shannon, bell, and elliott as RFAs to resign.

Neil we can replace, but we NEED some toughness. Mccamond we let go. Gerber we let go. Kuba we let go if we have a young UFA or trade option. Shannon we let go. Bell we let go. Elliot we resign to 2 year 2 million.

Providing we only sign elliott, that makes roughly 46.5 cap space with 13 forwards,7 d, and 2 goalies. We already have a full line up and the ability to add a 2 mil d and a 3 mil Forward. Now, you really want to see how much room we have.

Say we trade these guys at the deadline for picks and or prospects we would clear kelly(2.1), schubert(.9),donovan(.6),smith(2.6).

We would have 40.3 mil in cap space with 11F,5D, 2G. We already don't need to get depth because we have both karlssons pushing to make the D, we have guys like obrien on forward. Provding the cap is near 55 mil, that would give us 15 million to spend on a forward ,and a d, or 2 forwards and 2 d.

Say we spend 3 mil on a f, 3 mil on another f, 4 mil on a d, 3 mil on another d, we would have 13F, 7D,2G with a couple million cap space and 2 First round picks, plus new prospects and picks from dropping off kelly, schubert, donovan, smith, kuba, neil, etc all at the deadline.

Depending on how succesfull we are getting rid of some guys in the next 6 months will determine how quickly we can turn the ship around.

Sens Talk / last year at this point
« on: February 01, 2009, 04:05:24 PM »
Ok so i believe in "your best players have to be your best players". So i decided to do a little research using nhl.com's game logs. I was going to do this for the whole team but i have a life so i just used our main offensive producers as examples.

1st are this years number, then last years numbers (not counting todays game)

Spezza (47-18-20-38) (47-19-41-60)
Heatley (47-21-22-43) (47-28-35-63)
Alfredsson (46-12-30-42) (46-29-31-60)
Fisher (43-7-10-17) (43-16-17-33)
Vermette (47-5-12-17) (47-10-16-26)
Kelly (47-6-7-13) (47-7-13-20)

the big three are way off last years pace as are our main secondary scoring. -22 for spezza, minus 20 for heatley, minus 18 for alfie). They should be able to provide offense regardless of supporting cast. The big three shouldn't have dropped this significantly.

Fisher's salary doubles, his production is cut in half.

Sens Talk / Sens Skills Competition
« on: January 18, 2009, 12:43:33 PM »
today at 1pm. On the sens site it says rogers television, but it does not show up on the schedule on channel 22 for rogers.

Anyways, we can discuss it here.

My prediction...hardest shot will go to heatley, fastest skater will go to mcammond, accuracy will go to spezza. That is if they all participate in that.

Sens Talk / Questions
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:57:02 AM »
Ok, im not too sure if many of you will find this interesting, but it's been kind of dead here the last few weeks and i thought another topic couldn't hurt. Here, you just ask any random unanswered questions on surprising subjects.

How come 25 games in, spezza is 4th on the team in assists?

Why does ruutu have as many points as fisher?

Why does donovan have more points then vermette?

Why is phillips a -10?

If vermette is 4th in the league in faceoffs, and we've never had a good faceoff man, then why is he 4th on the team in faceoffs taken?

If donovan is a checker, why does he not even have a check every 2 games, with 10 in 24 games?

Why is winchester ahead of phillips in hits?

Why does our even strength play suck?

Why are our special teams so good with such a bad record?

Why is vermette already 0/3 in shootouts?

Why did i make this stupid topic?

Feel free to add whatever questions you have.

Sens Talk / sens sign richardson to two-way deal
« on: September 27, 2008, 08:28:53 PM »
I'm surprised...He said he would not play in bingo. I'm guessing the sens wouldn't do it unless it was a 2-way because in that case if they need the extra cap space in a dire situation, then we can do it.

I'm guessing that was the plan all along and they just wanted to give him a game first.

Top Prospects & Binghamton Senators / 3 keys to a succesful bingo season
« on: September 04, 2008, 10:01:45 PM »
-elliott
-zubov
-nikulin

These are the top prospects in our system(besides guys like obrien and karlsson etc).

If elliott can have a very solid season and be one of the top AHL goalies, all the better for us, and himself. He needs to have a season like the old pruseks and hurmes and emery's impressed with before they made the jump.

Zubov and nikulin can be explained as 1. They both now have a North american pro season under their belt. They both posted decent rookie numbers(nikulin who is 1 year older, posted the better numbers). Now if they can both have a breakout season and maybe make the jump from career european/ahler to perhaps dastyuk,/zetterberg/alfredsson type is up to them. I'm looking for them to be close to a point a game(70-80 points). If not, it is a dissapointment which means they cant adjust to be offensive players in the north american game.

If those three players can make really good strides, we should be in very good shape this year, and for the big sens in the years to come as well.

Sens Talk / Are the sens even contenders this coming year?
« on: September 04, 2008, 07:47:36 PM »
Over the summer and up to this point, i have followed a few different fan forums(mixed fans, not a specific team). I have talked with many very knowledgeable fans and it seems no one is giving ottawa the slightest chance. When topics are started on the conferences best teams, ottawa isn't even mentioned as wild card in the east. You'll hear. It's between phi, pit, and mtl. The random other teams mentioned are maybe the rangers or something. My question or question is, has this team slid that much to go from considered the top team in the east to might not make the playoffs in 1 year? Here i was thinking ottawa made some nice depth signings and a couple good trades yet no one is giving them the slightest chance. I know that could be a good thing, and that what others say shouldn't matter but i can't help but feel kinda nervous and unhappy that our team's prime has maybe left us.

This is the first year in almost a decade that we start the year not considered to be an automatic for the playoffs by the general hockey population and hockey experts.

http://senators.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=369132

He seems to be developing really slowly but hopefully he can have a breakthrough year and dominate in bingo and maybe make the team next year?

Anyone else want to elaborate?

Sens Talk / Checklist
« on: July 24, 2008, 06:42:44 PM »
This is a thread about checking the list of things that need to be done to bring this team to the top when they are done

- Legit starter- unchecked
-top 6 forward- unchecked
-top 4 Dman- unchecked
tough forward- check(ruutu)
tough dman- check(smith)

so far, i would say we addressed the least important areas in terms of value.

Now can we say "what is he waiting for?" We really can't compete with the top teams unless we get a top 6 ASAP.Right now kelly is our 6th most offensive player and that spells out trouble. Even when we had the defensive system of jacques martin, we still had more scorers. We need 6-7-8 scorers on our team. We have 5.

16
lol really random, but i was going to post this in the phillips thread. But since it got locked, i went to the second most pointless thread. I was playing nhl 08. I had a spare forward and a spare d(so 2 G,13 F,7D) and then i got 2 injuries. Simply replaced them with my healthy scratches. Then my injured players come back and im suddenly over the cap(which doesn't make sense because that group was under the cap 2 weeks ago). So the game made me put phillips on waivers(without me knowing) and i lost phillips to dallas and cant get him back now i feel like giving up on my dynasty and i was already half way through year 2.

Really random and wanted to put it in the phillips thread. I don't want to make a whole account on EA, and was just wondering if its happened to someone here?

If anything this move helps guarentee stronger depth next year. Anyone else can add something?

Sens Talk / Robitaille
« on: July 07, 2008, 05:52:18 PM »
All the unrestricted free agents, including robitaille, were taken off the roster on the sens site. I just checked and robitaille has been re-added. Hopefully murray isn't going to announce he resigned robitaille. It better be a mistake.

http://senators.nhl.com/team/app?service=page&page=TeamPlayers&type=roster

Also no mention of who the second "A" goes to between the likely heatley or fisher.

Sens Talk / theres always plan b...
« on: July 05, 2008, 12:35:13 AM »
If we are just to regress in the next few seasons and don't have the ability to patch up holes, there is the option of speeding up the rebuilding process. Trading guys like spezza and heatley individually for prospects, top picks, and young up and comers. That way we get depth.

Each of those 2 alone could easily get us about a young roster player,a top prospect, and 1 or 2 1st round picks.

You could even stay competitive during those years by signing UFA's to short deals with all the saved cap space while the picks, prospects, and young players develop and then VOILA,depth again.

Also remember that next year is a much deeper UFA pool(especially for goalies) so we could somewhat replace them and stay competitive while piling on picks and prospects.

Sens Talk / merry christmas hockey fans!

Well, its that time of the year again.

I figure we should have a thread for the next few days or week or so where we post all the rumours as there will be plenty coming from everywhere. This is like christmas for hockey.
