Goalies must have played a minimum of 4 games this season to be eligible for rank.

Introductions / I've Returned!
« on: November 17, 2006, 10:59:35 PM »
Well after about a year absence I've returned to these boards. Some of you might remember me as the diehard Tugnutt fan. Yep well just to let you know I still am and I'd take him at the league minimum right now over Gerber and his 3.5 mil!

Hey, just today we finally got hooked up with Centre Ice along with the rest of Bell ExpressVU. I've looked around on our channel guide and I can't find anywhere where it shows what games are being shown tonight. I'm specifically interested in the MTL/FLR game and if it will be shown?

Sens Talk / Tugnutt Continues Stint on HNIC
« on: October 28, 2005, 10:20:58 AM »
Former Sens goalie Ron Tugnutt will continue getting air time with CBC. HNIC has been impressed with Tugnutt's analysis so far, and have assigned him to Ottawa's November 19th game against New Jersey. He will be working with veteran announcer Don Wittman. WIttman will be Tugnutt's third partner in 3 games.

On another front, the Oilers may show some interest in Tugnutt as well. Conklin needs more development time, and Tugnutt would be an excellent mentor, and insurance for Markkanen.

Anything But Hockey / Some Neat Animations
« on: October 19, 2005, 07:53:25 PM »
Hey, this is non hockey related, and I hope I don't get in trouble for doing this. My friend and I make some different, but funny, stop motion movies in our spare time. We use my cheap digital camera and put it all together using Windows Movie Maker. If anyone wants to check them out, I've made it available to download at Megaupload.com.

We currently have two mini series running, one is called Bill and Jack, and the other is Arctic Adventures. In B&J we used clay, and in AA we used Legomen.

Let me know what you think, keeping in mind we're only 15.

Sens Talk / Can Anyone?
« on: October 13, 2005, 10:07:36 AM »
 :GO_SENS_GO2:

Can somebody who gets the CBC's regional broadcast or Ottawa vs. Boston tape it for me?

I live in Thunder Bay and am stuck with Toronto all the time, and I would like to see how Tugnutt does in his second game of color commentary.

If anyone's taping it, it would be greatly appreciated :icon_thumbsup:

Sens Talk / Luongo Possibilities?
« on: September 07, 2005, 08:19:51 PM »
I'm not sure if this has come up on the board yet, seeing I'm fairly new, but I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were about possibly seeing Luongo come over to Ottawa next year?

Luongo and his agent made it clear to Keenan that they wanted a long term deal, and if they didn't get one , he would seek other opportunities when he hit UFA status.

With Hasek, undoubtedly retiring, Ottawa may be in need for a starter depending on Emery's performance this year.

I personally think he is the last piece of the puzzle for Ottawa. That is, if they don't win the cup this year.

The only problem is, will Ottawa have enough cap room to sign him and the many other key Ottawa players that have contracts up at the end of the season?

Sens Talk / My Top Backup Goalies For 2005/06
« on: September 06, 2005, 12:58:15 PM »
Here is a list of the top backup goalies for 2005/06. My results come from career consistency, recent performance, and just from watching them play. All my selections are unbiasely chosen.

#1) Martin Prusek
#2) Manny Fernandez
#3) Vesa Toskala
#4)Jussi Markannen
#5) Mika Noronen
#6) Sean Burke
#7) Johan Hedberg
#8] Jamie McLennan
#9) Sebastien Caron
#10)Brian Boucher
#11)Scott Clemmenson
#12)Jamie Storr
#13)Christobal Huet
#14)Alex Auld
#15)Ray Emery
#16)Reinhard Divis
#17)Cam Ward
#18)Brent Johnson
#19)JS Aubin
#20)Phillipe Sauve
#21)Maxime Ouellet
#22)Chris Mason
#23)Michael Leighton
#24)Garth Snow
#25)Ilya Bryzgalov, Antero Niitymaki

Please remember that some young rookie backups are not on the list yet because I really can't say how they will perform in the NHL without seeing them in any games at that level. There is however no doubt in my mind that guys like Henrik Lundqvist and Hannu Toivonen and Budaj will be on that list by the midway point of the sesason.

I also left off Mike Dunham/Kari Lehtonen, Garon/LaBarbera, and Chris Osgood/Manny Legace, as none could be determined an undisputed starter or backup yet.

Sens Talk / My Top 30 Goaltenders for 2006
« on: September 05, 2005, 12:08:50 PM »
Here is a list of my top 30 goaltenders of 2006. I've based my ranks on recent play and career consistency. A lot of guys like Kari Lehtonen, Ray Emery and Jocelyn Thibault are underrated only because of little recent NHL success. I have no doubt in my mind that if I revise the list at the midway point in the season Thibault will be in the top 10 and Garon and Lehtonen will make the list.
REVISED: 11:42PM EST. SEPT 7, 2005
Top 30 Goaltenders for 2005/06
#01) Martin Brodeur
#02) Nikolai Khabiboulin
#03) Jose Theodore
#04) Roberto Luongo
#05) Miika Kiprusoff
#06) Marty Turco
#07) Robert Esche
#08] Evgeni Nabokov
#09) Ed Belfour
#10)Andrew Raycroft
#11)Olaf Kolzig
#12)Thomas Vokoun
#13)JS Giguere
#14)Dwayne Roloson
#15)Dominick Hasek
#16)David Aebischer
#17)Jocelyn Thibault
#18)Dan Cloutier
#19)Kevin Weekes
#20)Marc Denis
#21)Ty Conklin
#22)Curtis Joseph
#23)Martin Biron
#24)Rick DiPietro
#25)Martin Gerber
#26)Patrick Lalime
#27)Sean Burke
#28)Manny Fernandez
#29)John Grahame
#30)Mathieu Garon

You might notice a big revision of my tops in my list. Kiprusoff took the biggest hit as I decided that his performance in 03/04 was amazing, but he will have to put up decent numbers this year to show that he's for real to me.

In no way am I suggesting that these results are accurate or correct

Sens Talk / Sens Should Pick Up Tugnutt
« on: September 03, 2005, 02:53:55 PM »
Ottawa's goaltending depth does not look that great going into 2005/06. Hasek is really old and Emery is unproven. I think it would be an excellent idea to pick up Tugnutt for a year or two deal.

First of all he currently lives in Ottawa, secondly he's 37 so he could stay in
Ottawa for a year or two and then retire here. By that time Emery should be ready to play in the NHL. I doubt Emery will get better by sitting on the bench all year watching Hasek play. He's better off in the AHL again. Tugnutt had a bad year in 2003-04 as he struggled with a knee injury, however he isn't known to be injury prone and played excellent when he filled in for Turco's four game suspension in 03/04. I would expect Tugnutt
to accept a cheap offer if the Sens were to give him one.

With over 500 games of NHL experience, not to mention that most of his success has been with Ottawa in the past, I think Tugnutt would make for an exceptional back-up and insurance marker for Hasek.

Other goalies left on the market include Felix Potvin and Byron Dafoe. Both 34 years old.
