Anything But Hockey / Peter Jennings dies of lung cancer
« on: August 08, 2005, 12:55:31 AM »
Nearly four months to the day since he announced in a hoarse voice on his evening newscast that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, longtime ABC "World News Tonight" anchor Peter Jennings died Sunday, according to the ABC news network. He was 67. ABC's Charles Gibson read a statement from Jennings' family that said: "Peter died with his family around him, without pain and in peace. He knew he had lived a good life."

Anything But Hockey / Conan O'Brien to take over Tonight Show in '09
« on: September 27, 2004, 03:15:47 PM »

This is excellent. Conan's possibly the funniest man in late night television, Leno being the least.

I know I can't be the only one who can't stand Jay Leno. And that damn band guy of his who laughs at everything the entire show.

Sens Talk / No "C" Change
« on: July 08, 2004, 08:04:33 AM »
While a Toronto radio station was spreading rumours on Tuesday that Alfredsson was going to take off the 'C' and hand it over to centre Mike Fisher, coach Bryan Murray has made it clear that if Alfredsson wants to remain as captain, the job is his.

Can't find a link yet, but it was just reported on The Score.

Aw man. I loved this guy. He was brilliant.

Sens Talk / Barnaby: Ottawa is my home town. I'd love to play there.

Ottawa Sun article.

"I would love a chance to play for the Senators," said Barnaby.

Sens Talk / Murray: Shakeup good for Senators.
« on: June 29, 2004, 09:50:20 AM »

Murray, only a few weeks into the job, is still trying to put his finger on what the Senators need. "I can't say I have the answer," he said. "But maybe you could say of the Senators that they have a lot of skill, but not enough grit.

"I watched the games from the playoffs, and it seemed to me there was a lot of take rather than give. Sometimes the players need a jolt, and sometimes two or three changes can do it.

"I'm here, for starters. That doesn't mean I'm any better (than Martin), but the players have to feel responsible when staff is let go.

"They just have to feel responsible for that.

"We have a good hockey team, without question. But when you finish fifth (in the Eastern Conference) and get beat in the first round, something has to be done."

Murray, who's predicting at least two or three more lineup changes, doesn't see himself as a fire-breathing ogre. He's not going to harangue his players.

He said he and his staff will give the players every tool and every bit of advice to be successful, but then it will be up to them.

"We're nothing but judges," he said. "We will do what we can to help, but then they will have to do what they can to earn their ice time. I'm not talking about guys like (Daniel) Alfredsson and (Marian) Hossa. They're elite players and they just have to keep doing what they're doing.

"But a number of them may be comfortable because they earned their spot under Jacques. Now they're going to have to do it with a different guy."

Earn ice time or don't play

Just curious, do any of you know when it comes out here in Ottawa? I know that it opened in some cities today, but I don't think Ottawa's included. Anyone have any idea when it's released here? I'm dying to see it.

General Hockey Discussions / Khabibulin to stay in TB.
« on: June 18, 2004, 08:17:58 AM »
Tampa Bay GM Jay Feaster has picked up the 2004-05 option year on Nikolai Khabibulin's contract for $6.5 million.

 There goes my unrealistic dream.

Feedback/Wishlist/Issues / Changed my name..
« on: June 13, 2004, 09:15:05 PM »
Just a little note to say I've changed my name from 'whileweburn' to.. well, this. Because I had no idea where I got the first name from and it was kind of starting to creep me out.

So for those of you who aren't observant and wouldn't have recognized me by avatar or signature... t'is me. The end.

General Hockey Discussions / Flames @ Lightning: Game 7.
« on: June 07, 2004, 09:55:50 AM »
I'm starting it a few hours early because I'm bored at work and I have nothing else to do.

Predictions for tonight's game? I'm thinking 3-1 Calgary. Not sure why.
Kiprusoff's going to bounce back from a not-so-great Game 6 performance.

Anybody know the status of Robyn Regher, by the way? I never even saw him get injured, but apparently he left the Saddledome with a cast on his foot. I'm sure if there's any possible way he could play, then he'd play. Anyone know what happened?

General Hockey Discussions / Flames @ Lightning: Game 5.
« on: June 03, 2004, 09:08:05 PM »
Any thoughts so far after the first?

I hate to bring it up, but damn. The officiating's ridiculous. For both sides.

Khabibulin and Kiprusoff are putting on one hell of a show, though.

Sens Talk / Jacques Martin remains big Lalime fan.
« on: June 03, 2004, 08:16:29 AM »

Patrick Lalime has established himself as a top goalie in this league and I really believe that," Martin said yesterday.

Wow. This makes me happier he's gone.

General Hockey Discussions / I FOUND ONE!!!!
« on: June 02, 2004, 06:41:07 PM »
 It's taken weeks of searching, but I've finally located Calgary Flames car flags.

Place D'Orleans, if anyone else is interested. I know there are only two games left, but damnit. Better late than never.. or... something.

Any predictions? I wouldn't be heartbroken if the Flames lost, really, but I'm definitely rooting for them. Both teams have worked hard this year and both deserve it. It'd be nice for the Cup to come back to Canada, but I wouldn't be upset if the Lightning took it.

Either way, it'll be exciting hockey with two young, fast and skilled teams. None of that trapping nonsense that's so boring to watch.

I say Flames in 7.

General Hockey Discussions / Lightning @ Flyers: Game 6.
« on: May 20, 2004, 09:11:18 PM »
4-3 for Tampa with a couple minutes left in the 2nd.

Let's go, Lightning.

2-1 Calgary with a minute left in the second period.

I must admit, seeing Aerosmith excited me more than the game, though.

3-2 going into the third period.

Was 3-0, but Tampa Bay blew it.

Brad Richards doing his nails has been the highlight of the game for me.
