Sens Talk / Re: Sens only 4 points out of 1st (overall draft pick)
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:14:33 AM »
You're expecting Kovalev to propel us to the playoffs?

Any pick in the top 14 is a "lottery" pick....
Only the top 4 or 5 are, since a team is only allowed to move up or down 4 or 5 places I believe.

Drafting for needs is the biggest mistake this organization could make.

So Elliott is starting tonight.

I give up on Clouston.

Good news on both moves. I assume Lehner gets at least one of the starts in the back-to-back scenario.

Lehner gave up 1 goal on 43 shots for Bingo tonight. I hope he gets one of the back-to-back's this week (NJ and DET). Then if that goes well I say throw him in against Vancouver next Monday.

Top Prospects & Binghamton Senators / Re: Jason Bailey

Did you read the article FV?  I find you comment a little uhmm, cold hearted.
It's one thing to make a joke and let it go, it's another to be constantly bombarded by comments clearly coming from a moron, in an authoritive position and has an impact on ones career.

And seriously,

Then again, Maybe it's because Bailey was an Ottawa 67 and was a key part of things before getting drafted that has me thinking this is a serious matter.
I'm pretty sure you're thinking this is a serious matter because its a serious matter.

I'm appauled that his even happens anymore, and that the punishment was so lenient especially since the team is apparently owned by a Jewish man.

I wonder if Murray was in the hunt for Nabakov.  Since the Islanders are lower than us, they would have gotten him over us anyways, but I betcha Murray tried!  :smily677:
Murray addressed this in his press conference (yesterday?). He did not make a claim. I believe he said he spoke with the Nabokov group and asked if Nabokov would be willing to come to Ottawa and decided based on that not to claim him. A smart move to ask ahead of time I think.

I hope Ottawa claims him. We need some chance at stability back there.

Sens Talk / Re: Call up Cory Locke Already!!

I'm glad they gave him a chance, and he deserved it, but he wasn't creating enough to warrant getting top 6 minutes, and there are better options than Locke to play in the bottom 6.

My favourite would be Landeskog, both because I prefer him as a player and I think we should follow the plan of only drafting Swedes from now on.

Jackman is about 10-12 min per game.
Matt Hendricks is about 12-13min a game.
Engelland is 14 min

Id say Carks is in the mix, nothing special from an ice time perspective now that i checked the stats.
Carkner plays 15:49 a game, Engellend plays 12:59. That's an extra 3 minutes per night for Carkner.

David Clarkson plays 14:13 minutes a night as a forward, but is he still considered one of the elite heavyweights?

He's probably the ONLY guy..   :laugh2:

Well you've got guys like Chara who play 25 minutes a night and are tough as nails, but aren't necessarily labeled as 'enforcers'.

But as far as guys who fall into the "heavyweight enforcers" category, you're probably right about that.

However, I was just on hockeyfights.com though and there is a Carkner v. Paille fight.  Carkner lost that fight so I'm not sure what to think.
That's only because Paille landed a couple cheap shots after the refs stepped in.

He's certainly the toughest guy in the league that plays 15 minutes a night.

If you wanna compare him against a bunch of underperforming players, go for it.   :bag:
You used the word 'here', so I think I'm allowed to compare him to the other players who are 'here'.

Looks like Locke is going to be called up later this week.  Guess whoever said, "Let's just bring up all the Binghamton Senators" may be right.   :smily677:  Oh what the hell.   :spin:

BTW:  Locke and Butler have made the AHL All Star team.  Locke is a starter.  Cue Ottawa to call them both up so neither can play.   :icon_banghead:
Cheechoo's starting alongside Locke for those who're wondering what he's doing.

I would have to say the benching has helped him out. He still has a lot more to prove though before I consider him a "Real solid" d man. -11 doesn't cut it here.  I see a very talented quick d man thats learning to play d in the nhl. He can take a shot, but what really saves him is his vision. He seems to be able to pick up on the headhunters and hide very well.

Here, on this team, -11 isn't so bad. He's in the top half of our defensemen for +/-

To be fair, he's been handling the physical play quite well this year. He often gets pummeled in the corners and he still goes back to retrieve the puck the next time.
I completely agree. He's looked read solid defensively the past few weeks. He seems to have a way of stripping a puck carrier without necessarily having to drive them into the boards.

But just imagine him rushing up ice, allowed to just walk around everybody.

I might actually watch now and see what Karlsson can do when no one's allowed to touch him.
