Dany should be thrilled, actually. He'll have some new coat tails to ride.

Even the Grinch frowns on his shenanigans.

I really don't see him signing anything until after July 1.  Can't really blame him.  He came into the league a journeyman so this may be his one shot at getting a big payoff.  He's at least going to want to see what the market is.

At worst, there's not much in the way of offers and he goes back to the table with Murray.  At best (for him) he gets a crazy Jeff Finger contract.

Flames just gave Dennis Wideman 5 years $25 mil.

That Karlsson deal looks even better now.

Sens Talk / Re: Sens in hunt for Nash- Just another rumour?
« on: June 22, 2012, 10:44:15 AM »

He doesn't.  and if you look carefully you'll see that he just said Nash was in play.  The reporter added in the teams himself.  Isn't sports journalism great?

But the rumours are flying, so I'll ask, do think Murray should make a move?  For Nash I say no.  There's a lot going for him but this team to me is still rebuilding.  We've added a lot of young players and we haven't seen how they've played out yet.  I don't think we're close enough to start mortgaging prospects for a run at a title.

There are some negatives: 674 career games, 4 career playoff games.  Not all his fault I agree, but the number is still there.  And let's face it, if his name was Nashov, many of us might be questioning his heart and commitment or even 'enigmatic'.  And that contract...ehh that scares me.

Good signing.  Term is long, but not stupidly long.  Glad it got done quickly;  I wouldn't want it to loom all summer.  Now that it's done the other pieces should fall into place easy enough.

Didn't see the game but looked it up on youtube.  Not nearly as big a deal as I was led to believe.

Is that what qualifies as a punch these days?

Bergevin game him back his old job as an assistant.  That's doesn't mean he'll still be around come the start of the season.  Whichever coach he hires may have their own ideas who they want as assistants.

I would hope they keep him.  He got handed the job under some terrible circumstances and I don't think it reflects his ability to coach.

I would argue the rebuild actually started with Dany Heatley, we just didn't know it yet.

Though I think the plan was to go into a full rebuilding mode, it's not really the case anymore.  Mainly because there were more prospects in the system than anticipated and it seems the early crop of draft picks are working out quickly.  Even one we had on the bubble (Rundblad) got flipped for an NHL ready, roster player.

Plus, I think MacLean has shown us that one the team's biggest problems was behind the bench.

You do know they take inventory, right?

The brewery is where you want to be my friend.  Who really knows how full those vats are?

For certain he did.  They made it pretty clear it was a requirement for the job.

Don't really have a problem with that.  French is the primary language and they want someone who can communicate with the public in that language.  It's their prerogative.  But they'll have to accept smaller talent pool that comes with that requirement.

I think they chose well.  A fresh face and they resisted the temptation of bringing in an old Hab.

Alfredsson has passed his baseline concussion test according to MacLean.

If they do that, they might as well hire some rink rat in Rimouski.  He'll be about as good at negotiating with agents.

Requiring someone to be able to speak french in their job is hardly a double standard.  Though it may be a dumb decision.
