Sens Talk / Re: Morrison in running for Senators?
« on: November 05, 2006, 09:03:15 PM »
Volchenkov has been arguably the Sens best defenseman the last few weeks and seems to have stepped up his physcial game in the absence of Chara.  If Muckler trades him when it looks like he's starting to come into his own, then he's a moron.

Not a fan of getting Morrison though.  If we can move Schubert/picks/prospects to get Conroy, that would be the best thing.

The kid never played well.
The one game where he actually got more than 3 minutes of ice time and wasn't playing with no talent goons, he played well.

Muckler is just as big a dumbass.  If you know there's a possibility of this guy fleeing the country, never to be seen again, then why not trade him for SOMETHING?  Someone would have taken a chance on him and actually given him ice time.

Muckler is a moron.

He's going back to Russia.

If they want a young defenseman, then why not try and stick them with Schubert?  I don't understand the love affair with this guy, as he's not that good on defense.  If all we had to was add in prospects or something, then I don't see how that's not better than trading Volchenkov, who is playing some pretty major minutes for the Sens and doing it quite well.

Sens Talk / Re: Time to make a trade with the flyers

If we are serious for a captain for captain trade we need an Iginlia, Sakic, or possibly a Modano. A North American boy who will work hard with Spezza, Heatley, Fisher, Eaves, and Vermette. A guy that will light a fire under Redden and joke around with Corvo. We need a no European leader. Maybe we need a St. Louis?

What we don't need is an injury prone European. Not that I'm prejudice, but I am.
Yeah, who wouldn't want a player with 2 Cups and one of the highest playoff PPG averages in the HISTORY of the NHL?  Certainly doesn't sound like something we could use.

I'm terrified of flying too.  Doesn't matter, we're both still badasses.  ;)

Murray said both are fine and will be in the lineup Saturday.  No mention of Preissing though.

TSN says he's expected to play, and there's no mention of the injury at the Sens website, so hopefully he is good to go.

Sens Talk / Re: Someone has to teach our D men how to block shots

The best part was his quote.

Quote
Rather than spending some quality time with his favourite ice packs, Volchenkov was one of eight Senators to take part in an optional skate yesterday.

"I feel good today ... maybe a couple of bruises, but I'm all right. It's hockey," said Volchenkov, who played 19:49 of Saturday's game. "Lots of (ice) time, but I like it. It was a good game for the team, a big win."

Volchenkov blocked 9 shots tonight.

I think Volchenkov attempts and fails to block shots more than he succeeds at it.
He must make a lot of attempts if he finished 6th in blocked shots in the NHL last year.  It's nice to know that atleast one of our defenseman has the balls to do it.

Did Corvo not do so against the Avs? I thought it was him...and I winced because he was just back from blocking a shot in September with his foot.
I don't know, Volchenkov stopped a 4 on 2 that game by just laying his body in front of the shot.  He's pretty much got shot blocking down to an art form, as well as playing a 2 on 1, but the rest of the d isn't as close.

One guy I would love to see break into the Senators roster on a regular basis is Martins, he's small but he's got grit and fights for the puck. When he has been called up he's been nothing but a positive influence on the team.
Not even in the organization anymore.

-4 and 0 points so far.
I think he's been very solid defensively, regardless of the stats.  The offense will come eventually, once the forwards start producing.

Volchenkov and Phillips have looked 50 times better the last two games, and actually played very well together last night.  Meszaros has been surprisingly great, because I expected him to slump this year.

Schaefer needs to start doing something.  He's getting paid quite a bit now but hasn't done a thing this year.  They should switch him and Heatley around.

First line centers that can produce like Spezza can don't grow on trees.  It would be a massive mistake to trade the guy.

who knows how many games Volchenkov will be able to play.
Why do you keep saying this?  Only Meszaros played more games than Volchenkov on defense last year.

Seriously, Volchenkov and Redden will be fine for opening night, and Corvo will be back after the first 5 games or so.  Schubert stinks on defense anyway.

Leetch is washed up.  Did you watch him in Boston last year?  He was brutal.
