I agree, but there's a much better chance of Turris turning into it than David Rundblad or 2012's second round pick.

At this point I see no difference between Turris and Filatov.  Both may turn into solid top six forwards, and as a Senators fan I hope both do (and that they find some chemistry together).  But I don't think you can say that the odds of Turris developing better than Rundblad are better, I'd call them about even.

Having those two will certainly make the competition for jobs next year tougher for Zibanejad and Silfverberg (if he actually ever comes over to training camp).

When it comes down to it, Rundblad is expendable right now. Who knows how good he will be in down the road. Odds are, he will be pretty good but will he turn out to be a Nicklas Lidstrom? I highly doubt it.

Skill wise comparisons have been made between Rundblad and Lidstrom, so he might turn out to be that good.  D-men take time to develop.

We already have two amazing young defence in Karlsson, a potential Norris winner and Cowen, a potential Calder winner. Based on their play thus far.
I'll consider Karlsson a Norris candidate when he's a plus player.  Why this kid gets a free pass on his defensive short comings baffles me.  Cowan is a beast and may win a Norris before Karlsson does.

And we have some pretty decent up & coming defence down in Bingo in Weircioch, Gryba and Borowiecki. Plus we have some decent defence prospects playing in NCAA. Ben Blood and Chris Wideman will be turning pro next season or maybe at end of this season, after finishing their 4 years.
None of those guys has shown anything in the NHL.  As we saw with Rundblad, success in a lower league does not equal success in the NHL.  I've seen all the guys you mentioned play, and none of them has the offensive talent Rundblad has.

Rundblad has talent, but still needs time to develop into a good NHL defenceman.

Turris has top six talent, no doubt about that.  But like Filatov he has not reached that potential.  Difference being that Filatov cost Ottawa a third round pick.  The price for Turris was considerably higher.

As for Ottawa having to many NHL defenceman, that may be true this year.  But unless there are more D-men ready to make the next step from Bingo, that won't be true next year (assuming that Kuba will not be back).

I'll reserve judgement on this one for a couple of years.  Right now I see it as a gamble that Turris will develop into the solid second line centre Ottawa has needed for years.

Auld is ona one year deal, so his trade value at the deadline will be next to nil. If Bingo makes the playoffs, Lehner and the team are both better off with him in Bingo rather than riding the pine in Ottawa.
I agree that what to do with Auld is some what dependent on what Bingo's playoff chances are like.  If they are still in the playoff hunt then Auld stays and Lehner takes them on their playoff drive.

But if Bingo are out of playoff contention by the NHL deadline and throwing Auld in on a trade (say as part of a package that includes Kuba and/or Winchester) will bring a better return (a higher round draft pick), then it's something that should be considered.

Agreed that he will not bring much return on his own.

They should sign all the RFA's (as long as they don't have to over pay).

I'd like to see them sign Carkner and Konopka, again if they don't have to over pay.

Kuba, Winchester, should all be traded at the deadline for pick(s).

Undecided on whether Auld should be traded at the deadline, or kept until the end of the year.  I think most of us expect Lehner to be in Auld's spot next year.  But should he be called up for the end of this year is the question.

Kuba for Kelly, straight up!
Nice thought, but there is no way Boston makes this trade.

Heard on the radio that Daugavins (sp?) was at the practice this morning before the team left on their road trip.  Interesting that it wasn't Filatov.

BTW.....has anyone heard anything from the League office about the Chris Neil 'incident' Saturday?  Just wondering................

Nothing about Neil that I can find.

Maybe Daugavins is taking Alfredsson's spot for tomorrow night?

At a wedding party recently someone yelled, "All the married women please stand next to the one person who has made your life worth living."

The bartender was crushed to death.

I was just sitting here doing some planning and I'm trying to decide if the parade should go up Yonge St. or University.   ;)
Yonge, but it should go down instead of up.   Start at the old MLG, go west on Carlton to Yonge, south down Yonge Street to Front, then after turning left past the HHoF proceed west on Front to Bay, then south on Bay to the ACC (which will be packed with crazed TML fans).

Date of the parade TBD  :P

How can we make Rick Nash be a Senator?

1.)  Have $7.8-million/season in cap space until 2018.  Ottawa has this.

2.)  Have assets you are willing to trade in order to get Columbus to send you their franchise player.  They are not going to take Kuba and/or Gonchar. It would probably mean giving up Spezza and/or some top prospects/picks and setting the rebuild back by a few years.

3.)  Nash has a NMC until 2014-2015 and a NTC for the remainder of his contract until 2018.  So even if you have 1 & 2, you have to convince Nash to join your team.  I can't see him doing that except for a contender (which Ottawa is not).

I like that Ottawa didn't give up and pulled out the win over Columbus in the last minute.
Senators fans may be in for a rough year, but there is no quit in this team

Dryden is a pseudo-intellectual and one of the biggest blow hards on the planet.  No thanks!
Well he's a lawyer and politician, and they are not exactly known to be true intellectuals.  Someone being a pure intellectual is hardly a requirement to be commissioner of a sports league.

I've met far bigger blowhards than Dryden.

NZ are an incredible team.  Good to see Canada go up against the best.  Shows just how far we still have to go to be able to really compete with the best in the world.

Disappointing that France didn't put in a better effort against Tonga, but it was a nothing game to them.  France was already assured of advancing and were not going to win the group.  They rested many of their best players.  They did what was right for France, just as they should do.

Canada will just have to make the 2015 Rugby World Cup the same way they made this one, by winning qualifying matches.

I could live with Shanahan as the next commissioner of the League......should be interesting.
I doubt that Shanahan truly has the skills required to be the next commissioner.  My vote for that job goes to Ken Dryden.

I just hope that the next commissioner leaves Shanahan in his current job.  The videos with his commentary explaining his decision have been excellent.   Now that he has set the bar, I hope he keeps the punishments consistent.

When my doctor asked me about what I did yesterday, I told him about my day.

"Well, yesterday afternoon, I waded across the edge of a lake, escaped from a mountain lion in the heavy brush, marched up and down a mountain, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of quicksand, and jumped away from an aggressive gator."

Inspired by my story, the doctor said, "You must be an awesome outdoors-man!"

"No ," I replied, "I'm just a crappy golfer

Looks like we may be headed for a minority government.  Some parties are trying to stir up the electorate by throwing that dirty 'c' word (coalition) around.  Makes me wonder ifany of these clowns have actually read our constitution!

Leaves room for both Rundblad and Cowen to stick in Ottawa to start the season.
Hopefully Kuba will have been traded before they have to send one of them down  :smily1263:

buried in the minors until he can be traded.

So their next game is against the All Blacks on Sat.  Chances are the All Blacks will go with their secondary players to rest up for the quarter finals.  Perhaps an outside chance for Canada to get an upset victory?  Doubtful but crazy things have happened.....
I like the way you think, but it's an extreme long shot.  NZ have only given up 34 points in three matches.  They have also earned the bonus point in all three.  Easily the best team in the group. The odds of an upset are probably made even longer by the fact that Canada is playing on four days rest again.  They played on four days rest against France and it showed in the second half.
