Sens Talk / Re: Christmas is coming!

Not sure where we seat as far as the base salary goes, but I'm not sure if we really need to go and try and sign a top 6 forward. I feel they addressed that issue at the draft getting Mika Zibanejad and Nikita Filatov. It would be nice to give these guys a long look with no pressure to see what they can do. Zibanejad, I think would need about 15 or 20 games to get use to the nhl style and speed. On the otherhand Filatov has played in the nhl so he should know what to expect. A whole lot is not expected from this year so I think we should give them a chance.

I've heard Landeskog comapred to Mike Richards, but bigger....

But he doesn't play center.

Just looked at the Sun's breakdown of the top picks and man:

I know he's young but 155?  I'm bigger than he is. :)  Landeskog may not be a center but he's big and just as skilled.

I heard Nugent -Hopkins on the team 1200 wednrsday night, he plans on coming into camp at 180, also get this, his favorite team is The Sens. This kid is my pick for Ottawa, he reminds me of Joe Sakic, other so called "experts" have compared him to Brad Richards\pat Lafontaine.  I watched him play a few days ago, this kid had 15 pts in his last 5 games. He will be on the team next year if we can get him. Gretzky played at 185 lbs and he was not as fast as this kid.

Despite Anderson playing lights out. Here comes Landeskog.

murray recently stated that if they get the 1st overall pick they would be looking at taking Adam Larsson (D) and went on the say that with Larsson in the fold, Ottawa would set at defence for years to come with Karlsson, Rungbald, Cowan and Larsson.

It'd be nice to have a real second line center for once.

I have been saying that to whoever will listen, I like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins he would be nice but landeskog is another type of player we have been coveting also. Maybe Murray can trade for Stephen Weiss 3.1M\per thru 2012-2013 and drafting Landeskog solves both problems.

Not McGuire  . . .but another "Mc" somebody for GM

OK, so it's "Mac"  . . .almost the same thing

God No!!!!!!!! Not him, look at the condition he left Columbus in, it would be the reincarnation of the muckler era.

Then use Nashville's first round pick and the extra later round picks to stock up on forwards or use the extra picks to trade up and draft twice in the top five.

If you could make that happen you should be our next GM.........Seriously!!!!!!!!!

The gas prices are getting so crazy in Ontario at least, that I believe it is time to boycott a gas company. I think a month of national boycotting would send a message and should bring down the price of gas. My understanding is we do not buy Lybian oil but due to the uprising happening over there, it is being used as an excuse to raise gas prices over here.

There is something definately wrong here and nothing will change unless we get their attention.

Shock and Awe!!!!

I could not bear to have Pierre McGuire as GM.  Besides why does anyone think he's qualified to do the job?  Because he name-drops a lot?  That doesn't make someone qualified to be a GM.  If that's the case, Greg Millen would be "better" qualified...he's a superior name-dropper than Pierre, IMHO.   :shake:

:A_laughing_matter: :A_laughing_matter: Could you imagine Greg Millen as a GM, I can't stand to listen to him during games.

:icon_agree: McGuire has no experience as a GM but he has a pretty good grasp of the talent available.

Just curious....who do you think this new gm will be?

Maybe Pierre McGuire, he's the only name I am hearing......maybe we can get Sam Pollock to give it another try.  :D

:icon_topic:  While I think that the Sens desperately need centres, I hope they take the "best available" players with their pick(s) and go from there.  Any decent centres UFAs on July 1st? :smily677:

The crop this year is not as deep in quality as in past years. here's a link you can check out the UFAs and RFAs.

I have heard the cpmparisons with Landeskog and Richards but I never put a lot of weight into them, I don't think it's fair to the young player coming in, too much to live up to. I read an article that compared Nugent-Hopkins to Joe Sakic in his style of play.

What would be ideal is if Murray could get Stephen Weiss from Florida, he's supposedly available and at 3.1M per thru 2012-2013 and would make a good 2nd line center and Landeskog an Obvious pick.

I was on another site that has a poll asking which player do you think Ottawa should take with their 1st pick Overall. The choices are, Adam Larsson, Gabriel Landeskog, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Sean Couturier. The choice that holds 50% of the vote is Gabriel Landeskog who is a great pick but IMHO I feel we should be taking a center. I personally like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the reason I would want a center is we have never had a "TRUE" No.2 center to compliment our No.1 center. If you go back as far as you want in past Stanley cup champs you will find that they all had 1 thing in common, they were deep down the middle. I.E Sakic\Forsberg compared to Spezza\Fisher, you get the picture.

What do you think?

TSN is reporting that the second round pick is also conditional.

Did they expand on how the condtional pick worked by chance, does it become a 1st or 3rd perhaps?

I think Murray should have got Pittsburgh to throw in an old boot a least. To think we got anything for this fall down is amazing!!!

Based on the game last night against Florida, he seems to be playing with a lot of confidence, which is the key to all success I believe. I don't know that he will ever be a 50 goal scorer in the NHL but he definitely has a nice touch around the net.

It's too bad his first Win wasn't at home, but hey a win T.O. is almost just as good!

I'm sure he will be very nervous tonight, and hopefully brilliant!   :drink:

We cannot forget what is at stake here, we must keep our eyes on the prize, 1st pick overall!!!!. I want to see him and the team play great, just don't win, there is nothing to gain from that.

The question I ask myself is why would a goalie of his age want to sign with a team going through a rebuild.  :icon_questionable:

Performance bonuses aren't allowed except for rookies and players over 35 with a 1 year contract.

Too bad!! perhaps it should be allowed for all players, something like that might light a fire under the likes of a Kovalev. IMHO, I think if hockey paid it's players a base salary and maybe $25,000\pt, it might make the games more interesting to watch.
