Sens Talk / Re: Kuba potentially done for the year

while it's a tough loss for our depth, we've handled playing without him and he hasn't had that great of a year anyway.

It's also giving EK a chance to take over the top PP unit, something he wasn't getting before.

Words cannot describe his important to the team.  :icon_bowdown2: sums it up.

I'll probably break down, and go on a month long binge when god hangs em up.

Ruutu's playing the best game I've seen him have for a while.

he's been hit and miss, he's still made some soft plays.

Overall the game is slighty better to the same, but we're getting goaltending. We need the next goal

tough loss, but some positives from the game, the offensive side of the game seems to becoming along, to bad the D is a mess. there's something things to build off the last 2 games,  I think the slump is ending very shortly. you climb out of a hole, you don't jump out.

this is getting stupid. The break has absolutely killed all the mojo this team had going. Clouston needs to schedule a trip to Central Park again. Gotta wake up soon for our decent cushion on a good playoff spot could slip. teams below us are winning

Blame Neil.  Why start a bunch of crap when you have a short bench?   :shake:

Surprised by Orr holding the fingers up.  Not because he didn't win (although it wasn't much of a fight) but because he's usually not into Neil type antics after fights.

Anyway, fiesty game so far but not great hockey.

Ian Mendes had a great tweet after

Was Colton Orr putting up three fingers to indicate how many draft picks the Leafs gave up to get Kessel?

As entertaining as all the chippy-ness is, being short players and those in the line up not being up to speed, I would think Clouston is going to crack down, can't keep sending guys to the box, we need to be able to roll lines tonight

All of the points above are valid.

I just hope the break doesn't kill the momentum we created in the 15 or so games before the break. We have a comfortable hold on at least 5th, but one bad streak easily kills that, gotta keep going.

Sens Talk / Re: Sens sign Shannon to an extension

He has carved out a niche here and is getting reasonable ice time.  Maybe the extra $$ wouldn't have been that great, and
being a depth guy realized that there is no guarantee of getting the same chance to play with another team.  Over the next season I expect him to keep getting regular shifts, and that should set him up for a decent deal.   Warped world or what, where $650k per year is a small pay cheque.

I totally agree, that maybe the money wouldn't of been that great, but you'd think his agent would have advised him to at least take a look, but he still has the chance to cash in next season, but there's also the risk he regresses, risk vs reward I guess.

The same money would have still be here, if the right deal wasn't out there for him.

Great depth player for the team, but relatively easy to replace, glad he chose to stay though.

kind of surprised he didn't want to test the market, probably could have gotten a decent pay day. However, he should be applauded for signing for less to stay where he has a good thing going

Sens Talk / Re: Cullen to sens for picard
« on: February 12, 2010, 01:55:48 PM »
great deal.

Cullen is a very underrated forward. 50pts/season since the lockout, already has 40 this year in a terrible team, and is suprisingly even in terms of +/- as well. He will be fantastic upgrade over cheechoo, and when foligno returns gives us some insane depth up front.

The D is little thin right now (mostly cause of some untimely injuries), but Murray can't be done, after the break I imagine a defenceman will be coming here.

To do all this, while shedding Picard and Cheechoo is just amazing. Murray earned his extension in matter of hours.

What the commentator just said was actually kind of dumb.  He acted surprised that the Sens are ahead because they played last night while the Nucks didn't.

Early in a game the team that played the night before usually has an advantage for the first half of the game and after that the rested team has the advantage.  Pretty understandable but it definitely usually works out that way.

Not taking anything away from the Sens who have been great but this ain't over.  Sens will get tired a lot sooner than the Nucks will.

This period will be key.

If we keep on them in this period, they should be out of it by the 3rd, if we sit back, they could easily get back in it.

That 2nd goal was key, if we only came out of that period up 1-0, the Canucks don't feel quite as bad, as one shot and they're back to even ground.

that's gotta be one of the best periods this team has ever played

The only thing that makes me happier than wins is when Alfie himself breaks the hearts of other teams. If only we could find the fountain of youth and make Alfie 10 years younger with his skills the last few years. I don't want him to retire, ever  :sad

good golly miss molly, filthy shot.

ugly period.

Seems the break took them out of their groove. Hopefully they can get going after this period.

Elliott kept us in that, good he's still in the groove.

love having Regin with Fish and Kovy, they showed chemistry earlier in the year, and its great to get him away from Cheechoo, who had helped destroy his minutes.

Regin has shown time and time again this year he does better in a scoring role, with increased minutes.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't mind Lee. I think he'd be an upgrade over Picard and Campoli.

Everytime he goes to Bingo all I hear is about how poorly he's playing, but it never seems to translate up here. He's been good enough up here to earn a spot, I think anyway.

He's not flashy, he doesn't do anything amazing, but he doesn't suck at anything either.

I would love for him to be in the line up over Picard and Campoli, I think he's far more stable.

That being said, if we get good return for him I wont shed any tears.

I don't like the deals for the Leafs either. Phaneuf, while he has potential, hasn't had a good few years, ever since he signed the deal things have gone down hill for him. He's still young and could rebound, but to give up a guy like Ian White (who has more points than Phaneuf) and is contiuning to progress, and was becoming one of their better D-man, is a huge risk. Adding Stajan and Hagman just makes things worse. I like this deal from a flames perspective.

As for Giggy, he and Toskala are a wash, talent wise, but Giggy still has a year on his deal, but losing Blakes salary is good for them. I'd say meh to this deal for both teams.
