Tugger is a little more 'worldly' in terms of experience when compared to Van Allen.

Longer, better career. More cities. Better known...

TUGGS!!
So, will those of us out on the frontier be able to get this as well, or is it only available in the Ottawa region?

Maybe its because goalies are always watching the flow of the game or something.  No coaches though.  Just media types.

If you have ExpressVu they have about 8 CBC channels... normal cable you'll probably have to watch those other guys...

I remember Tugger telling a funny story on the team. Apparently when he showed up fo rthe first time in the dressingroom in Aneheim one of the players thought he was with management and didn't believe he was a player. Tugger said the player (can't remember who he said it was) llaughed and told him that he looked like an accountant.

There's a full article on it in the Sun now.

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/2005/10/07/1252602-sun.html

Quote
Joel Darling, HNIC's executive producer, is confident Tugnutt can make a smooth transition to the booth.

"We've used him on the Hot Stove (intermission feature) in the past and I liked what he did," said Darling. "Like all goalies, he understands everything and sees things differently. And he's newly retired, so it's not so long since he's been a player."

The initial plan is for Tugnutt to work tomorrow night's game, then again Oct. 15 when the Boston Bruins are in Ottawa.

"We'll do the first two and take it one step at a time," said Darling, who likes Tugnutt's long-term potential as a broadcaster.

"We've told him to stay away from the stats and numbers and just be conversational."

This is GREAT news! I am such a diehard Tugnutt fan since his days in Ottawa! I was worried he would fade into the background and nobody would hear about him again, so this news comes as a big relief! I hope things work out for him, he deserves it, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
I'm very excited too that I am getting BellExpressVU, and hopefully will get the Ottawa games on CBC. I think it's dumb how I live in Thunder Bay and get shoved with Toronto, Toronto, Toronto, when Ottawa is a part of Ontario too.

Decent maiden effort by Tugger.   Room to groom for sure, and  not sure if he will be able to stick. Probably better for Wilson to take the TV gig and let Tugger cut his teeth on radio first.  Better than the HNIC alternatives!!!

How was Tugger? I talked to him during the 2nd intermission and was surprised to not see Don Wittman there. Did Ron sound out of place?

I'm going to give him a mulligan on this one.  He honestly didn't analyze anything unless prompted and Wittman often had to take his place.

He's learning and will get better.  Often what he did say was interesting but he didn't say enough.  He needs to talk more and fill the dead spaces a bit.

Otherwise he did great and I am thrilled he's there.

Tugger is one of my all time favs.

He sounded a little tentative, just like a rookie in his first game. But at least, we didn't get all the obvious comments of a Greg Millen...

Good to hear. Jitters and nervousness can be expected from his first broadcast. Hopefully he settles in for next week. By the way, Wittman wasn't there with him.

That guy was making all sorts of mistakes, but none more obvious than Hasek busting a move on Miller for the goal

He also kept switching from Meszaros to Massarov, and got several other players names wrong when calling the plays.

Ah well, fresh off the lockout at CBC ... it was to be expected but I could just imagince t.t.t.t.tugger biting his tongue during it all. :icon_thumbsup:

Tugger certainly wasn't omni-present. Especially after Pierre McGuire in the last game.

It's new for him, though. I think he'll settle in.

I'll certainly be willing to cut him a lot more slack than Millen. Call it a better first impression.

That's too bad Tugnutt was a little tentative tonite. I caught the last 1:30 of the game because Tornoto ended early and he sounded alright. He seemed to talk fast and quiet though.

I really hope he does better next game, I want him to stick around. My fear is of him fading into the background and becoming a forgotten goaltender. I really don't want that to happen. I mean, I'd rather watch him play in net, but broadcasting is better than nothing!

CBC, KEEP TUGGER !
