The media outlets trip over one another to get a 'scoop' so much they pretty well just run anything that gets made up.  Or when you constantly hear 'my sources say' or 'we have learned that...say sources'.

And then you get this headline on TSN:

Islanders' Parrish not traded yet

Stop the press! This just in! Nothing happened and now it's news!

I shouldn't be too hard on our TV sports outlets and print media. Their ability to fabricate BS pales in comparison to the wondrous internet.  Remember: a broken clock is right twice a day.
