Mothers Day Ideas
« on: May 10, 2006, 04:41:23 PM »
What did everyone get their mom?  And/or what are your plans for Mothers day?

We usually do the breakfast in bed and buy flowers type of thing to start off with.  I just need some ideas for gifts, so help me out here! (remember, I'm still a fairly broke student) ;)

Uhoh.  Thanks for the reminder...

I usually go with flowers and another little thing, her favourite chocolates never go wrong.  And I might take my mum out for a lunch or something of the sort.

As far as adding to a gift without spending much (I hear you on the student budget, sigh)... if you don't mind using some time making one, a nicely handmade card can't be unappreciated.  Removes some Hallmark-iness from the day ;).

If you can afford it (or talk someone else into paying for it <--- ideal), the brunch at Chateau Montebello is unbelievable---although I suspect for Mother's Day, you'd probably need to make reservations a month or more in advance.  Some other ideas:

- Memory foam pillow(s) with zillion thread count pillowcases
- One of those bathrobes that are velour on the outside, plush terry on the inside
- Spa day (or 1/2 day)
- Not sure if you're a picture person, but a scrapbook of your own life is a fun idea
- Is she a coffee person? Get her a pound of really great coffee

She probably would've been happy with some fresh oats and a new bag of hay.

I can only imagine what you would have inferred if the Sens were down 0-3 to Toronto instead of Buffalo.

Here is something really cheap for Mother*s Day.....clean the house for her!  That happens to be one of my all-time favourites!  :smily698:

Otherwise, my next favourite is a hot stone foot massage along with a manicure and pedicure.  I float out of the spa.  A full spa day is great...but pricey!

Very difficult for me to do anything significant for Mother's day seeing that my Mom lives in Calgary. Its very difficult to get her anything when it comes to occasions or the holidays, as you know longer 'know' them anymore. I see her once a year, if I am lucky and can afford it, or if sh ecan make it out here.

So mother's day usually consists of a phone call and a card. It's simple, but she likes it.

Bones does Mom liek flowers ..U can have flowers delivered to her at work or home as she provb wont expect this as your so far away. Flowers are old gifts but moms still love them and its the thought that counts.

Myself it will be hard this mothers day to make my mother happy as she lost her mom pretty much at this time last year and her best friend just dided yesterday all unexpectedly. basically gonna take her out to lunch and try cheer her up.

Szuper as far as gifts go im usually in the same boat..What to get??

Candles, homemade cards, pictures of Anne Geddes kids, massage, clean there house..list gos on. I always ask my mom if theres anythgin she needs around the house and always get the same answer for last 31 years.."oh don't be stupid i don't need anything" moms are happy to just be told Happy Mothers Day. good luck hope it all works out.

I used this for my mom's b-day, I burnt her a CD with songs from her favorite singer......  Doesn't cost a lot (one CD) and you can download the songs from sites like Bearshare, etc.....  and then, you make her a cover for the jewel box.

Why is it that I was expecting you mom's answer to be more like "Ohh, don't be stupid, your useless around the house, i'm still paying off the bill it cost to have a plumber come in here and fix your pathetic attempt at unclogging my sink last year!".

I always knew you were a closet Sens fan!  ;)

I don't know exactly how to explain them.

Now that you mention this, it is a great idea!  One of my kids burned me a bunch of CDs for my 50th birthday recently and she did a fair amount of research, calling my brother and mother, friends, etc. to find out what the song was for my first dance the day I got married, she included movie themes from favouritie movies, favourite TV shows, Sens game songs, current favourites, popular tunes from my high school days, etc.  It was a great compilation!

Thanks Rose !!!!!  LOL

I mean, right now, my parents go and buy whatever they need when they want, so buying something for them is not really easy, so making something that they cannot get, it's a better idea for me.....
