We wiped out a season for this?
« on: June 28, 2006, 11:00:38 AM »
Is the new CBA great?

Sure, owners got their precious cap, but had to relax free agency rules in return.  What do we get? Losing players as they enter their prime after you just spent all those years developping them.  Draft well? Why? So somebody else can scoop up your hard work?  The Senators probably would have been better off under the old system.  They can't spend $44M anyways and now their top 26-29 year old players are becoming UFAs.

Take a look at Tampa. Brad Richards is already demanding UFA type money at 26.  Otherwise he would go to arbitration and leave as a UFA the next.

Careful what you wish for NHL. You might get it.

And that's my rant for today.

On the other hand, we can aquire great young UFAs too... You lose some, you get some.

There's no question that this advantages teams with terrible scouting (Toronto)... but whatever. It just means a higher turn-over rate of players, which I like considering we're always stuck with underachievers, and this forces us to change players more often.

Maybe the Sens were better off under the old system, but the league wouldn't have made it another year under it.

all it means is we have to build our team differently we have so much skill packed into about 8 players if we have to lose them lets build a very deep team look at buffalo no big names and  no one making more then 2 mil plus they are way under the cap, look at detroit tons of skill made it no where, we need a deep gritty team
