Sick and tired of Volchenkov and Vermette rumours...
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:33:23 PM »
I'm sick and tired of John Muckler shopping Volchenkov and Vermette... Volchenkov has been one of our top 2 defensemen all season long, sometimes outplaying everyone else.  Against Washington he single handedly shut down Ovechkin.  He is second in blocked shots and 11th in hits, and is a bargain at 1.4 million, yet Muckler consistently shops him around, apparently offering him to the canucks for Morrison (according to Canucks.com) which is a joke cause morrison has proved he's nothing without naslund and bertuzzi carrying him.  And Vermette gets no respect, although it is getting better.  One of our top faceoff guys, penalty killers, and still has a tonne of untapped offensive potential which he is finally getting a chance to show off, and all for just less than a million, yet these two guys keep appearing in trade rumours.  They both have a never die attitude, block shots and have a tonne of heart, but if muckler is too old to see this, then he's got to go!!!

On a side note, i don't really like the nickname A-train.  It's fitting, cause he does hit like a train, but it's a struggle to say.  I suggest Voltron.  That's what i call him at least.  It was a great cartoon too...

If Muckler had offered Volchenkov for Morrison, we'd be stuck with Morrison right now. The Canucks would have jumped on that offer so fast. Just because news outlet report something doesn't make it true, especially a message board.

You'd be surprised at how undervalued volchenkov is in this league, and how overrated morrison is.  There were reports in the Ottawa Sun of that trade, but also other trades involving Volchenkov for PJ Axelson.  And then last year at the trade deadline it was Volchenkov and Vermette's names that kept coming up in possible trades.  Even earlier this year during their huge struggles, it came up (in the Sun) that muckler was looking at Dallas because they have a plethora of centres and using vermette as trade bait.

And most of those rumours are started by Garrioch. I'd pay more attention to the homeless shouting trade rumours that I do that writing piece of ****.

having a players name attached to many trade rumours doesn't make him "undervalued", it makes him a comodity... The fact that a player is being shopped is more aobut the fact that a GM probably feels his player is worth something on the market and because his team may be sound at that position makes the player valuable to another team and hopefully for another player or players of equal value

rumors are called rumors for a reason and hence why most hockey message boards remain afloat, if you're tired of hearing them, don't read them and I don't mean that offensively. Volchenkov is playing absolutely great, but ever think that all those rumors with his name are fueling him to play this way? As much as these guys say they don't read the rumor mill, I assure you they do.

On a side note a trade of Volchenkov for Axelsson would not be all that bad. Alfie has proven chemistry with him and good chemistry at that, he's one of the best penalty killers in the NHL and he's logging the most minutes per game for forwards on the BRuins this year. They are both equally underrated and both valuable. I'm happy with either and very happy with Anton's play as of late...the A-Train rides again.

I think a lot of the calls concerning Vermette and Volchenkov have been initiated from the other end.

I'll admit, there was a time after the first few games of the season I would have traded Volchenkov for a song. He was useless for the first little bit.

He turned it right around, though, and now I'm eating crow. Volchenkov would be as close to untouchable as anyone on this team as long as he keeps playing the way he has lately.

You have to admit, though, his turnaround - metamorphosis, really - began right around the same time his name started to appear in speculation.

His name has been in rumors for a while now so I don't think that's it.

I think it had to do with practice time.  He missed most of preseason because he broke his finger, then had to come right out of the gate with 3 games in 4 nights (where he struggled badly).  The Sens then got a week off and he got going and has been great since.

Patience is required with defensemen.

Ya, it's funny how after the first few games of the season Volchenkov and Phillips looked horrible and now they've been our 2 best d-men hands down. If Volchenkov were to be traded right now I would cry, he's been amazing. Vermette has also been one of our better players so far this year. He's taken his game to another level this season and if he were to be traded we'de better get someone very good back.

Muckler would be crazy to trade Volchenkov...he's our biggest shot blocker.

Vermette has tons of speed, and skill...they better keep him around here too.

When he first started laying people out I called him BamBam, but A-Train won the day :-)

With the way he and Vermette are playing I don't think you will hear their names much anymore.  And if you do it's other teams stirring things up.

I'm confused, how exactly is it such a struggle to say "A-Train"?  :smily677:

Oh man if Muckler trades A-Train or Vermette I say we go up there and kick his ass ourselves, forget waiting on Melnyk.

even if a quality #1 or #2 centre comes back our way? I wouldn't want to lose either of these guys, but if the team was improved by the move....
