Considering the Islanders essentially gave up three first-rounders for Smyth, it would be safe to say Kevin Lowe would've been demanding two roster players and a first-round draft pick from the Senators had Muckler been interestd in obtaining Smyth. If anything, I think Ottawa's chances of signing Smyth are better in the off-season (when Smyth becomes a UFA on July 1st) than their chance at trading for Smyth.

On the bright side of things, Isles will go ahead of Tcharannah if it goes down to these 2 for last playoff spot! :woohoo:  As long as that arsewipe Yashin doesn't get anywhere near the Cup!  :icon_hissyfit2:

We could have easily given MORE!  This may be our last real good kick at the can in a long time. We did NOTHING to address our achilles heel; PLAYOFF PERFORMERS AND GRIT ie: Roberst or Smyth.

If we do it this year, Muckler goes down as the greatest GM in recent history.  If not, he's the worst and I'm leaning towards the latter!

It's been reported on TSN that a bunch of GMs were unaware that Smyth was available... and that they would have paid a premium for him. Don't think Muckler is the only GM that missed out on this trade.

And if that is the case...then we'd still would have been on the outside looking in.
