I am over on DevilsRule and see lots of talk about the first two goals being fluky. They are also accusing the Sens of "taking Neidermeyer out" before the last goal was scored.

I don't see it that way but wanted some more opinion on the matter.
I suppose with Chara gone... I need a new sig line...

Tell me something, whats the definition of a fluke goal?

I always thought that a fluke goal was like the one that gets lobbed from behind the defending teams blueline and somehow skips all the way down the ice and into the net.
A deflection is a part of the game, and a good portion of the goals, if not the majority, are deflected somehow.

The White goal was pure sweetness, and Brodeur was simply beaten.

The first goal was sketchy...Oh well...Nothing wrong with the second...
And the OT winner was highlight reel material for sure...
SENS ARE THE BEST!
Lack of grit?
Weak goaltending?
The trap is boring?

Is your team golfing yet?

First goal for the Sens was lucky, deflecting off of Neil's skate. The second was a clean rebound and a beautiful goal. And the last one .... well, everyone will see that one in plays of the week.

First goal by the Devils was a very nice shot by Nieuwendyk to squeeze it by Lalime. The second was a quick one timer, good thing it found the net.

  The only lucky goal was the first by the Sens.

From what I saw on tv, the Senators' first 2 goals in the first period were legit ... so were the Devils' in the second. As for the OT goal ... it could have gone either way. I think that was the lucky one. The Senators capitalized on the Devils being distracted by Neidermayer's hit on the head. No, I am not saying that it was intentional. It was an accident. It could be that seeing Neidermayer lying on the ice like that reminded them of what happened to Stevens in Round 2. At least, from my point of view  as a Devils fan ... that's what I first thought of when I saw him fall like that.   IMHO

I'm not making excuses here.

All in all, good Game 1. You're all obviously ecstatic ... with good reason.  :)

I don't think it's an excuse at all Shedevil. When those guys saw that you can bet they were thinking "oh man, not again."

Agreed, it was sheer luck that the Devils' dee don't have the guts to clear Ottawa forwards out of the slot.

Gimme a break. A real hockey fan can see that all of the goals (except the Devils' second, which Lalime should have had) were defensive breakdowns of one kind or another. Friesen's brilliant pass to the streaking Niedermayer is one kind of play, but no more deserving of accolades than Neil finishing his check and planting himself in the prime scoring area, and Phillips throwing a shot at him.

The Devils fans are just grasping at straws. Smells like desperation to me.

Wasn't the second goal deflected off a stick? I didn't think Lalime could have done anything on that one.

Of course, I missed most of the game because I was working, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But one of the goals was definitely deflected...I've seen so many replays it's all become a blur. That and it's 9:55 am and I just didn't get much sleep last night for some reason!

The Sens first goal was the kinda magic bullet theory goal which  is why all
hockey fans are supersitious in the first place :)

The second goal was partly kinda lucky cause Brodeur didn't see White
coming behind Daneyko as he kicked it out that way, but it happens
right guy right place... you don't like it but you give them credit for being
there.

the NIEUWENDYK goal (not Niedermayer guys) was just the sweet kinda
thing we've been waiting 15 months to see from him... and it's still kinda
funny that Pandolfo scored the other goal cause he's been the comic
relief forward that's so bad offensively they stopped checking him around
1999.

As for the OT goal if I ever see Tverdovsky on the ice again I'll shoot him
myself.. he was so out of position he made Rheaume look bad as he tried
to get there and take out Tverdovsky's assignment..I don't think we'll see
him the rest of the series

Nope, ESPN had some terrific replays of Pandolfo's shot. It was a thing of beauty, from Jay's position in the left point circle to the incredible flex of his stick to the 3' 10" loft of the puck as it flew unimpeded in between Lalime's glove and shoulder.

I wish all goals could be that pornographically beautiful.

There was a suspicion that Chara might have deflected the shot, but a replay from over Lalime's left shoulder disproved that conclusively.

Oooh, ok then! Thanks. I thought I saw a replay where it looked like it off Chara's stick. Guess it was just a good shot...unfortuantely for NJ they didn't get enough of them!

I think all the goals were typical playoff type goals. The Sens first goal went in off the skate of Neil who was creating traffic, and then Whites goal came off a rebound from a nice shot. Both Niewendyk's and Pandolfo's goals were nice and came from a rush.  But that OT goal by Van Allen and Havlat was a thing of beauty. Schaeffer chips to Vanner, to Havlat who might normally shoot, back to Vanner for nothing but Net.

No Flukes, No crap goals, just hard work from both teams.  Yes Lalime should have had Pandolfo's shot, but let's give credit to the shooter who put it in stick side.
