In my house the computer is right by the television in our rec room so the kids are generally never alone when on the computer.  Our big rule for computer use is that they each get one hour max per day (other than for homework) and Saturdays is a computer free day (except for me as I have work related responsibilities and this site to maintain).

High Load on the Server???

Is this a routine script these Web Hosting places use to explain thier faults?

Seems to me that is always the first explanation you are told everytime you move hosting co's...

Actually I have a script that I run that checks the status of the server and when the site is having its connectivity problems I run this script and it comes back with some info including the load levels of the server and they are extrememly high.

I don't even worry about where in the house the computer is, or whether it is in view of a parent when the kids are on it.  I have remote access and control of every computer in our house, even when I'm not home.  The kids have seen me remotely controlling machines and they know that I can see what they are doing at any time.

I guess for many parents it's harder because their kids know as much or more about computers as they do.  But I work in this business and the kids know that is not the case in our house.  Once I have had to bust one of them doing something they shouldn't have been doing.  I wasn't home at the time, and even though they tried to cover their tracks they missed a few things (they actually thought that clearing the browser history and flushing the browser cache removed all trace from a Windows machine - silly children).

So I naturally found out and they got busted (punishment was swift and severe) ... now they have the fear

The problem with your method for YOUNG children in the house, is stopping them from inadvertently reaching a webpage (that surfing software doesn't catch) or discussion forum that has pictures of things that would shock the hell out of 'em. You HAVE to be in front of the monitor with 7 and 9 year olds because all it takes is a split second look at internet virals *goatsee* or *1 cup/2 girls* etc..  just one glance or worse, and you have unending talks to limit the damage....  :laugh2:

Totally agree. A couple of days ago, my 5 year old nephew was watching Wiggles online, and it suddenly cut to a porn movie. Luckily, my mother- in- law was with him, and closed it quickly before he saw too much.
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
