Author Topic: I wanted to wait it out for the finals to make my judgement but this is too far. (Read 4557 times)

This is a dig at the NHL. This has been the most boring, passionless Stanley Cup playoff I have ever watched, and may as well have been reffed by the 14 year olds who ref tykes "games." Watching this Philly Pitt game the first period has been filled with back to back to back "hooking" calls. The whole playoff has been this way, but this is the final straw for me. Call the chincey hooks and completely miss the blatant high sticks that draw blood, make the wrong calls on no-goals, etc, etc, etc. Minus the Dallas SJ series this entire playoff has been an absolute snoozer. Garbage reffing makes garbage hockey.

I absolutely agree with all your points. But I will add that its largely because Philadelphia and Dallas are both being outclassed which helps to make it boring. I watch the playoffs faithfully every year but this year - bah - I even caught myself watching American Idol tonight!! THAT'S how bad its been!!

Kind of does look like we are headed for a Detroit/Pittsburgh SCF and hopefully THAT will be entertaining. Have to agree with others, though....of the games I have been able to watch, the inconsistency in the reffing has left a lot to be desired.

Dig me all ya want but MOST of Pittsburgh's goals of late have been PP goals. Montreal didn't advance because they couldn't score 5v5 (a point made in a column in today's Sun btw) but somehow Pittsburgh is winning. Oh wait, I know why. They get powerplays because Malkin and Crosby, despite being great players, fall down at the slight wiff of a stick on their bodies. It's a joke at how easily they fall and even more so when they whine that no penalty was called.

If Philly is down in tomorrow's game, I hope that someone, maybe Downie, goes out and "legit" destroys Crosby and Malkin. Let's see the Penguins win without those two.

Downie will be a scratch. He pretty much coughed the puck up two games in a row for the game-winner. I liked his game lastnight, especially when he drilled Sykora and he REALLY drilled Laraque in the corner despite being about 60 pounds lighter. I am not sure if Coburn is ready to go or not yet but I am pretty sure Downie will be a scratch in favour of Riley Cote.

I still have to get used to this, but.... I made sure going through WBS that I gave them the "fist shake" for classmate of old.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has found both conference finals boring. I have been cheering for Detroit (good) andd Philly (bad), but I have found myself leaving the TV to go do something else more this year than any other.

When was the last time conference finals looked like complete sweeps??l

on the teams you're cheering for and your 'activity' while games are on! I am pretty disengaged which is unusual for me. Perhaps this is MY SCF hangover from the Sens' run last year!

Just another example of the Buttmanization of the NHL. He desperately wants the Penguins to win the Cup, or at the very least get to it, so as to rekindle support of the team, help with their new arena development and so forth. Last year it was Anaheim and the year before Carolina and before that Tampa Bay. Wonder who the annoineted one will be next year. My feeling is either Phoenix or Nashville....After all, the integrity of the game doesn't concern Butthead only what he determines to be the ideal scenario to make more money.

I would think the Panthers or San Jose might be in that "anointed one" list with Columbus coming up somewhere in there!

Although with Gretzky in Phoenix and a new rink to boot, they are most likely Bettman's 'frontrunners'!

I was thinking along the 'Gretzky line' as well. He's been in the position for a while with middling success and you can't have the Great One become the Isiah Thomas of the NHL. Great player but mediocre coach/gm

The part that drives me nuts is the chincy calls - like the ones I think you're refering to - and then not calling legitimate ones that negate or create a scoring chance - like when Staal was hooked up on a short-handed chance during a kill on one of those chincy calls. Very frustrating and I'm a totally objective viewer - as in I couldn't care less who wins, I'm just watching the hockey.
