I think, and please don't hold me to this, but Redden was injured and was replaced by Bowmeister, then could not get back into the lineup because Bowmeister was playing so well. I remember joking about that when it happened, stating Redden had lost his position to a 2nd or 3rd year player.

Redden wasn't injured I believe, and Bowmeester played all six games I'm pretty sure.  Looking at the final stat sheet, I don't think anyone was injured, but that can't be accurate because I know Gagne got injured at some point in time when he took a nasty hit.

However wikipedia lists Gagne as having played 5 games, not six.  But when I go back and look at the results of individual games, I see that he had played in all six games because he's listed on the stat sheet.  So i'm utterly confused right now.

I'm positive Bowmeester replaced Redden that i'm sure of, After doing some research it was the 2004 Canada Cup, but I'm not sure if it was an injury or just poor play that had Bowmeester in the lineup, I'm about 80/20 it was an injury.

Thanks for the venomous reply!

Thanks for providing great material!

We got creamed at the Olympics by the Swiss, enough said.

Have you ever heard the expression 'every dog has it's day'?

Also, our most coveted trophy is being slapped over by a bunch of Europeans in the SCF. All of our kids grew up idolizing the wrong guys, or at least the scouts did because they have their priorities all out of whack.

Sure, Detroit has a few more key Europeans than your average team, but look at the key players on the Stanley Cup champs the last few years - Neidermayer, Pronger, Getzlaf, Perry, Brind-Amour, Staal, Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis...

What's wrong with kids idolizing European players? What's that got to do with anything anyway?

Now a days we have two nancies like Spezza and Markov dance in a circle for 2 seconds because the last time they fought was when their big brother took their Sega Controller when they were playing the second level of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Not making comparisons or anything, but you would admit that Wayne Gretzky was a pretty good player? And Steve Yzerman, perhaps? Those guys weren't exactly physical either. Does that make them 'nancies'?

You are blowing the physical element of the game way out of proportion. Yes, you need it, but not out of all your best players. Team Canada is intimidating enough without having to resort to gooning it up.

And let's not forget that it is our dominance of the game that influenced hockey all over the world. There's a reason why they now talk about countries like Russia, Sweden, the Czechs and Slovaks playing a more 'Canadian style' of game.

Gerber played one of his best, if not THE best, game of his carreer and made 50-some saves (some of them spectacular).
We lost 2-0 . . .hardly the "creaming" you're talking about.

Mike Fisher would do great if given the chance to play for Team Canada...but I don't think it's gonna happen, unless they put in two Canadian teams.

Team Canada could put in two teams, and both would still have a chance at winning, lol!

Unless he has a real good year this year, I tend to agree that Fisher won't get much consideration for the 2010 team.

He's a role player, like Draper or Maltby. I guess a lot will depend on the status of those two, but I think Team Canada probably has a few other choices ahead of Fisher that provide a combination of very solid defense and greater offensive upside.

He'd have to play his normal style and increase his points significantly imo to get a look

At center yes, but maybe a 1st or 2nd liner on the wing. Maybe they should use him the way Dallas uses Morrow, they are very much the same player type.

I've always felt that Fisher is better winger than a center.  Keep him on the left side with his right-handed shot and he could score 30 and be that power forward on the wing that we've been missing since, forever.

He's too inconsistent imo.

He shows flashes of brilliance and then too much stone hands. He gets lots of opportunities but doesnt bury them enough for my liking.

No denying his heart or work ethic but the results just arent there to justify him being on team canada with all the other talent we have

The thing with Fisher is he wants to play center and when he does he tries to do too much and that's where he gets into trouble and becomes inconsistant with his point production.  When he's on the wing, he simplifies his game to three simple things...Drive hard to the net, shoot, and hit everything in an opposition jersey.

:icon_agree: totally.  Hopefully, Hartsburg will be able to get him to keep it simple.  Fisher is definitely most effective when he is on a "mission to score" instead of trying to be all things to all people on the ice.  He's virtually impossible to take off the puck and he will go through you to get to the net.  I have great expectations for Mike and he's just seems like the type that will round into 'shape' because he has focus...he just has to concentrate on the task at hand....SCORING!!!

I think he's got put up 65-70 points to justify his salary. Hopefully he can do it

that sounds about right for a 5 mil player. I would expect 70-80 for 5 if he wasn't physical.

Fisher's cap number is actually $4.2 million. Front loaded contract.

Yah,4.2 is still a bit high for a 40 point player. He needs to be consistent in his production and bump it up to 50-60 points.
