Also, in other general news, did anyone hear Tiger Woods' comment about hockey?  This was on Sportsnet a couple of days ago.  When he was asked who he liked in the Stanley Cup Final he said "I don't really care, I like the Dodgers.......I don't think anyone watches hockey anymore".  Comments?

Not over yet.  The CBC says they're still negotiating.  The annoucement that it is dead looks more like a bargaining tactic.

Originally they paid $500 per play, but it was one or two broadcasts.  Now they have multiple regional broadcasts, sometimes a few times a week.   Time for a bulk discount.

I love the wording when HNIC opens; Hello hockey fans in Canada, the United States, and Newfoundland.  Oh, those poor newfies.  Obviously was written before they joined Confederation but is still funny.  Maybe they will write a new one and actually include them

Further proof that the CBC is run by a bunch of monkeys......and accountants.

To even consider dropping the classic theme is borderline retarded. And what a lousy way to save a few bucks if it's simply a negotiating tactic! Yeah, let's screw the people responsible for the theme and keep Bob Cole on the air.....

Am i the only one who thinks $500 a broadcast is peanuts. I'm a student and my paycheck is more then that every 2 weeks, and we're talking about an internationally kwown, national corporation can't afford $500 twice a week during the winter months? I don't get it. Seems like almost nothing to me when you hear of all the money being thrown around these days in advertisement and rights  and such.

Worst mistake among many.  I obviously remain a Sens fan and will watch games forever more BUT this is an auditory icon in Canada, one that we can all relate to and cherish for many sense memories. 

Marketing folly.  It will be back sooner than pimples on a 13 yr olds face.

But this song is a classic and has alot of history behind it.If it was just started 10 years ago then i would agree.You could compare this song to the 7th inning stretch in baseball.

I can't honestly say that this change would make much difference to me either.  But there are alot of people, for which change of any kind is difficult to accept.  Especially any changes to something as sacred as hockey and HNIC - and especially changes made by the stuffed shirts at CBC in order to save a buck.  I'm pretty sure they will find a way to make the song stick.  But seriously - did they really think there wouldnt be a public outcry??

Ya, it's pretty much the only thing we have left of our culture.  Pretty soon we will have to put 5 different cultural twangs on it to satisfy ever person out there who complains.
