I was never as angry as some were at Redden and I am sad to see him go.... but 6 years at 6.5 million per is just stupid.

Not as over-paid as Campbell.

Or Streit getting $4.1 million per year for 5 years from the Isles. Now THAT'S overpaying.

I wouldn't be happy with pretty much all of the contracts handed out at this point. Pretty happy Murray haskept out of it so far.

He may have kept out of it so far but at some point he'll have to delve in he does need some players to fill out the roster.

I like the Detroit approach.  They've been consistently successful without the really big splashes.  Apparently the club does lots of others things to make it feel like family.  Whatever they are, they don't affect the salary cap.  Ottawa already has a couple of big and long contracts to manage.   Glad Murray didn't try too hard to compete today.

Well TSN mentioned Murray's highest offer for Campbell was 6.5 before bowing out.

No, overpaying is Commodore getting 18.75 for 5 years.  Over the leafs paying Finger 14 over 4. Simply ridiculous.  Glad we had the lockout for this.

I think given the contracts being handed out to offensive defensemen, this is a good signing.  He was 3rd in the league scoring wise amongst defensmen and is still making less than the rest of the top 10.  His point totals are higher than anyone on the Isles roster last year.

I knew Redden was going to get a better offer than what Murray was offering, but I nver thought he'd get the same dough he was already getting.  Oh well, good for you Wade.

Of course, but I'm happy to not overpay for top talent and go with tier 2 talent or players looking for a change of scenery ie. Naslund, Fedotenko etc. I'd love Bertuzzi on the right of Speatley. D wise its looking more and more like we are going to have to trade, Anaheim has to drop salary I think so Schneider might be an option, would love Jay-Bo but Jacques isn't dealing with us. Laraque could be a decent replacement for Gratts because quite frankly I want an enforcer.

I've been a fan of Redden's for 11 years...I'm really sad to see him go, I don't think it's really hit me yet.  As much as I hate the Rangers, it looks like they`re going to be my second team.

I think the real reason why we're seeing players getting overpaid is because of the cap floor.  There teams that have the money to spend because they need to get to $40 million.  They put a cap in place to curb the overspending that was going on, but they put in a cap floor which encourages the overspending for players.

Streit is not worth the money that he got...he's a defensive liability.  We all know that after the last two seasons that Redden should not be making the same money.  Jeff Finger is definitely not worth the money he got and neither is Commodore.  Hell I would even question Perry's contract to some extent, although his point totals have increased over the last 3 seasons, but he still only 54 points last season.
There are good coaches and there are bad coaches, the real question is "Do you want this person to be a role model to your kids for the next 6 months".  That's the question you have to ask yourself.

Streit is not worth the money that he got...he's a defensive liability.

Brian Campbell, Dan Boyle, Sergei Gonchar, Bryan McCabe, Sheldon Souray aren't?  Know what they have in common?  Defensive liabilities getting more money.  And only one of them scored more than Streit.

Liability or no, this what you will have to pay to get a quarterback for your power play.  You can develop your own of course, but if you don't have anyone in your system, then you need to go pay for one.  And given the market, Streit is a bargain for the Isles.
