It doesn't have to be one or the other. Sign a player like Shanahan to a 1 year contract, and you'll still have your cap space next summer.

Oh and back on topic, I think Schubert's the next one to go, not that I agree with it.

I don't know about 'next', but I predict he's gone at the end of his contract no matter what if he's not playing defense this year. By the sound of his interviews, he's quite fed up already of being played as a forward.

Yeh I don't blame him at all, I really believe that given some time he could be a really solid d man but with Picard in the picture now too just can't see him getting the necessary time unfortunately.

Someone on this or another thread posted that they had seen schubert + 1st rounder from san jose to kings for dustin brown as an (e4).  I can't find that rumor anywhere on hockeybuzz (assuming that's where it was seen looking at the e4 rating) I would totally make that trade, it would give us a nice 55 - 65 point player for use on the second line.  Adding the fact that I think fisher is going to reach the 30 goal mark this year (cause he's improved every year and he's going to play all 82 games) I think this sens team this year is going to be just fine.  I think  they'll crack the top 4 in the east.  None of this "lucky to make the playoffs"  I guess reporters have their opinions as well.  Even if they are wrong.  LOL

Is Chicago still over the cap? What about Gerber + pick for Khabi + a forward?

I think Nycholat is the next one to be gone.  Picard has a one way contract and although I know he can be sent down to Bingo I doubt Murray would have traded for him just to send him down.  Not for the amount of money it would cost anyway.  Nycholat is gone hopfully for someone we can use in Bingo and maybe some draft picks.  I heard rumors here that Washington wants Nycholat back.  Anyone else hear that?  (NOT an e3 though. lol)

Oh and I have tons of faith that Elliott will be in Ottawa next season.  Having spoken with him personally last season and heard about his summer training just recently, that boy is committed.  And damn good too, IMHO.

I thought that was the plan, but with Auld under contract for 2 years, I'm not so sure... I really hope we're not planning on an Auld-Elliott tandem next year...

poor Auld, he keeps being brought in to play backup and then getting booted from that role

lol about the Dustin Brown trade... now i see how these unbelievable rumours get started  :D   So how about Nycholat + SJ 1st rounder for Nicklas Backstrom (WAS)? (e1) (oh wait, i just mentioned it to my friend and he repeated it back to me, it's now e2)

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Ryan Shannon from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Lawrence Nycholat.

I watched this kid play for the Portland Pirates a couple years ago and he is decent... He is REALLY small and weak but he is pretty quick on his skates. I think he had like 70+ points in Portland but I can't remember. He was at least a point a game player at that time but I can't see him doing anything in the NHL.
He could drink like hell, he could fight like hell.

What the heck, I was on a role.  Thought I would go for it.  However, Tim Murray did say he has a verbal agreement with a forward to be announced soon.

Can't be too long since training camp starts soon.
