Comrie
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:02:01 PM »
So what's the deal with him? We hear that we want to either sign or deal all are UFA's so we don't lose them for nothing. Yet i hear nothing of if comrie will resign or if they can't get a deal done, trade him. No point of keeping him and letting him walk if he could possibly fetch us a second.

I hope Murray can keep him, at a reasonable price.  If it's possible I'd try to sign him for $2.9 mil.  Vermette money since we don't have to pay Vermette anymore.

But why is it that there is no talk about comrie? Shouldn't he be dealt if he can't be signed by 3pm?

Murray and Comrie's agent were talking the day the deal was announced.  They may have a the basics already worked out and a gentlemen's agreement to finalize after the trade deadline.

I would take Comrie for 2 million tops for no more than 2 years. He fits into our salary structure at 2 and even then its buying potential IMO. The mistake with Vermette and Kelly was they were paid 2nd line money and they are mostly 3rd line guys.  Comrie, IMO, falls between being a 2nd and 3rd line guy.

The money that was spent on Vermette needs to be redistributed to the blue line.

Cheers

p.s. My wife does not like the trading of Vermette as she thinks we never trade the cute guys.

So long as we have Fisher, the cute quota will be met :)

Gotta be careful who we bring in tho - seriously - there are some guys out there that can bring us down.......

I'm sure your wife would agree :)

All they need now is Phaneuf and Jarett Stoll... though, they are more D-List like now (yes even Cuthbert)

Comrie I believe was brought in to play the first line if Murray gets a good offer for Spezza. If not, he's been playing great with Foligno on the second line so ... I think he stays.
There's a bounty on anyone named Murray in Binghamton as of NHL trading deadline day.

Just depends on price.  He doesn't seem to have the speed he did in the last go around with the Sens.  Not worth his current contract $$.  If he is signed for Vermette money or less, he's the secondary scoring replacement.
