Draft Lottery / Draft
« on: April 08, 2009, 12:24:09 PM »
TSN is starting to guess the draft picks.  They have projected the draft order and the chances of moving up the line:

I had originally convinced myself that Murray would do everything he could to trade up in the draft.  But after hearing what he said about a player who they think has the potential to be better than Hedman, I'm thinking he might be trading down this year at the draft.

I still hope he tries to trade up.

Be nice if evander kane was involved in a trade to bring him to the canucks but I don't think so. I hope he goes to the sens myself.

I would take a good look at Cowen and Ellis ... if Ottawa is focusing on D.  Hedman is a interesting one.  I thought I remembered him saying he didn't want to be a physical player.  But I can't find backup ... so maybe it was on video instead, or a language barrier, or not even said at all.  With his size, its hard not to be one.

I'll start by assuming Tavares and Hedman just aren't in the cards.

I'd like a shot at Matt Duchene, Brayden Schenn or Jared Cowan.  Guys like Kane or Schroeder look promising but their size scares me.

Scott Glennie looks promising but I don't know very much about him.  Anybody seen him?

Brayden Schenn - wouldn't that put a little fuel on the Battle of Ontario fire.  I think he's my first choice that the Sens have a decent chance of landing.

Tough to know until the lottery is drawn tonight.  If Ottawa wins the lottery (2.7% chance) they can move up to fifth and they would then have a shot at Kane, Schenn or Cowen.

Of course all the buzz around here is that Brian Burke has come out in the media and declared that he will trade for the first overall pick and draft Tavares.  So of course in the mind of most Leaf fans it's a done deal and Tavares is a Leaf.  Not sure why Burke believes he has more to offer in a trade than the other 20+ teams that are interested in trading up to be able to draft Tavares.   Makes for good press though.

Ottawa will pick 9th (unless there is a trade to change it).

Didn't Tavares look scruffy?  It must be his playoff look.

(and while cotton panties are not necessarily dull!!)

Ottawa isn't going for a D they got that last year. They're going for forwards this year according to Murray.
There's a bounty on anyone named Murray in Binghamton as of NHL trading deadline day.

I've been looking at a lot of draft rankings and what not and they all kind of conflict with each other.  Some have MSP going as high as 3rd overall and some have him going in the 8th, 9th or 10th position.  Apparently Nazim "The Dream" Kadri, who will be available around the time we pick, will most likely be a career 3rd liner.

Now, knowing that Murray wants to draft a forward, I think he will try and move up.

I think Murrey is gonna stay were we are. I hope murrey learned from Mucklers mistakes. Drafting lee which could have been available at like 20th pick and we had the 9th. But Murrey is smart. He has done great drafts so far. He drafted karlsson and Im glad he did. I believe in him. Wherever our draft pick will be murrey will chose the best. I would like murrey to move up but I think the price for that could be alot. Trying to get top 5 picks is very hard.....

Me to.  Ending the year on a positive not after so much suckage was worth dropping a couple of spots in the draft.   It will also make it easier for Murray to entice players here.

I'm hoping we somehow get Evander Kane; however, I will be happy with a forward in the top 10. DO NOT draft any more D, plz.

LA has bad luck.  (not that any Top 5 pick is bad though)

I find them to be very exciting once they end up on the floor, dresser, or hell even hanging from the ceiling fan!
