Leafs fans petition for return of old-school logo

You can tell it's a slow time of they year, down here in the GTA.  Leaf fans have found the solution to their hockey woes...

The logo – a 35-pointed maple leaf, with rounder edges than the current, 11-point leaf – graced the team's jerseys as they won nine Stanley Cups, before being replaced at the end of the 1967 regular season. The team hasn't won the Cup since.

Logos? The Leafs haven't won the Cup since 1967. Tinkering with logos is like buying new hubcaps for a car you totalled before the first moon landing.

As a teen, I embraced superstitions. If the Leafs were losing after the second period – almost always – I walked around the block during the intermission. If the Leafs were in the playoffs – almost never – I painted my face blue and white, which given my complexion, was like trying to stain a mahogany bookcase with crusty toothpaste

I only said that because you highlighted that one line. 

Personally I agree with the logo issue.  Not because I think it makes any difference in what they do, it was just a much better looking emblem.  The Ballard one has always been 2nd rate to me.

The article is mildly amusing but his timing sucks.  He should have ranted 12 months ago, not now when things are starting to look up a bit and the Leafs actually have a real manager in place.

I wouldn't roll my eyes.  I doubt the guy who wrote it would see it here.  Like I said, his timing is really strange.

Menon isn't a sports writer, he's more of a humorist.  Most of his columns are hilarious

My guess is he read the article on the logo change, and ran with it, as he usually does with articles in the Star... 8)

Why not?  Leafs fans have been laughing at us for years despite being OWNED and missing the playoffs for four years in a row.  We missed it ONCE but that didn't stop them did it?  Not meaning you at all FV, just those hardcore ones with Leafs blinders on.

I'm not getting in to a moronic argument about Leaf fans Jason.  My point was, Sens fans shouldn't be goofing on anyone right now.

That's the beauty of life. Just because YOU think it's absurd doesn't mean EVERYONE else will.  And nah, I personally won't stoop to that level, was just saying we have the right to if we want.  :)
