Bad combo with Ovie's line out against Winchester and Zack Smith.  They do well, but that's not a good one.

Surprised to see Karlsson and Lee paired up together.  They are holding the fort so well, as long as Karlsson keeps handling the puck.  Loved his high flip clear out of the zone - it looked like just a dump but it was actually timed to go right the Winchester - damn nice.

Elliott sure earned his pay with that breakaway save on Ovechkin near the end of the period.

man, I ducked out after the 1st...crossing my fingers.

Johhny, for future reference, go to Grace O'malley's at king and duncan.
Its an Ottawa area chain, and their Toronto location is definitely pro sens.
even has sens shwag behind the bar, and whenever I've been there, the sens game is whats on, not T.O.  :icon_bowdown2:

Hey, Kovalev managed to score a goal without having to skate at all! Just his kind of goal!

Two beauty assists by Karlsson tonight.

Sweet goal and play leading up to it.

And look at Backstrom whining to the ref.  "Oh, why did you call a penalty with 37 sec to go?"" boo hoo.  He let one go before that because it was close but yours was blatant tripping. :)

... and the trip would have created a great Caps scoring chance.  If it hadn't I'm sure it would not have been called.

Great game, can't wait for the Eastern Conference final     just kidding

I'm kinda glad that Kovalev got the goal (and it was a cute goal, too) because he's been completely invisible for too long now - but does anyone think that he's in a completely different world out there? To me, it barely looks like the rest of the team knows that he's on the team and vice versa!

Not a bad game to watch.  I was a little worried when the caps tied things up but took comfort knowing our boys were still getting lots of chances.  Considering we are missing Kuba and Volchy I am starting to gain confidence in our backend including call ups.  Sure there are mistakes but essentially they are holding their own.  I just get worried when everyone backs off the blue line and allows the opposing player to walk right in for a shot, LOL

Just when I started cursing Kovalev, especially when I saw him coming out for the pp in OT with 37 seconds left...he scores  :smily677:

It's like Russian roulette with that guy (Pun intended)....gun is loaded...you just don't know when it's going to go off

Elliot was ok tonight...still has me worried come playoff time but I don't think the Sens are the only team with that concern in the east.

Glad we got the "W", makes these last few games a little less stressful.

cute, adj.
1. attractive, esp. in a dainty way; pleasingly pretty: a cute child; a cute little apartment.
2. affectedly or mincingly pretty or clever; precious: The child has acquired some intolerably cute mannerisms.
3. keen; clever; shrewd.

I stand by my choice of words.   ;)

The guys played well from what I could catch on the internet while doing income taxes... :icon_vomit:

Gives me new hope for a better than first round playoff finish...I hope.

Good win by the Sens tonight!!  They were like the Energizer Bunny....they just kept going and going and going.......!

They had a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period while outshooting the Caps 13-4.  Theodore looked VERY shaky in that first period while Elliott wasn't tested much except that Ovechkin breakaway near the end. The goal the Caps did get was on the PP (just a couple of seconds after Dean Brown had stated that the Caps had not scored a PP goal on the Sens this season!  :duh).  The Sens had great energy, compete level and the defence was solid, blocking shots and handling the puck very well in their own end.  Great first period in a road game.   :woohoo

The second period it was like the goalies had switched uniforms....Theodore played very well and Elliott was now the "shaky goalie", particularly when the Caps tied it up 3-3 when he seemed to have the puck in his trapper but it came out and into the net!  I wondered how he would respond after that because it was kind of a "oh-oh" moment for me!  The shots were much closer in that period with the Sens outshooting the Caps 12-10 in the second.

The third period was full of action but not a lot of shots with the Caps outshooting the Sens 6-4 but the teams were tied up at the end of regulation 4-4.  The teams went to overtime and the Sens were victorious with about 25 seconds left in the OT period with a nice PP goal which almost seemed like slow motion.  Spezza won the face-off in the Washington zone and it went from the "Swedessons" on the point to Kovalev parked at the corner of the net for, frankly, what looked like an easy tap-in!   I was thrilled! :spin:

Brown or Galley commented sometime in the second that "Kelly is trying to replace A-Train" after he blocked two shots in a row from Ovechkin and I saw at least two more from Kelly in the game!  He had a strong game, even though he did not make it onto the scoresheet.

I don't know what the final shotblock count was but the Sens had registered 20 by the end of the second period.  Many of them were pitching in with Volchie out.

Karlsson had another outstanding night with three assists (that's seven in his past three games!) and some excellent decision-making on the fly.  Sure, the kid still makes some mistakes but he more than makes up for them with the way he is playing, IMHO!!  He got two penalties tonight but his 'mates killed them off.  Erik also had the highest TOI for the Sens with 24 minutes, 26 seconds tonight.  He's really coming along nicely!   :spin:

Spezza had a terrific outing with two goals and two assists and he seemed to work hard all night at both ends of the rink.  After a very slow start to his season, he has certainly done his best to 'catch up' on the scoresheet.  And that last face-off he won before the game-winning goal in OT was great!

Alfie had a very good game tonight and was back out on the PK a few times tonight.  He led by example and managed to put in a three assist performance to boot!   :woohoo

I am really liking what I am seeing with our newest acquisitions, both Cullen and Sutton.  Cullen buzzes out there every shift and seems very good in the face-off circle.  Sutton has been laying on some excellent hits and it's nice to have another determined shot-blocker.  Funny how I was never overly impressed with his play before he got here.  Now I wonder why because he has been a positive addition to our back-end.

And, mainly because the Sens won, I have to say that I thought the refs were awful/useless/inconsistent, etc., etc.  They missed (or ignored) at least four high sticking calls - Carkner, Neil, Kelly and Spezza in OT with the ref standing RIGHT THERE as the d-man hit him in the face with his stick when he was charging into the Caps' zone - and at least two committed on Washington players.  Karlsson had his stick slashed into pieces with no call but Neil got a slashing penalty that seemed mild in comparison.  Fisher got a penalty on a play that, frankly, saw him and a Caps player basically tangled up together equally but somehow Fisher drew the call.  The interference was fierce.  I was (pleasantly) surprised when the Caps got a penalty with a little more than a half-minute left in OT because the zebras had appeared to just put away their whistles by then.  Really poorly called game, IMHO. :icon_banghead:

With that said, Ottawa's specialty teams REALLY stepped up tonight scoring three PP goals (on four attempts) and killing off four of five penalties successfully!  Excellent night!   :happy dance:

The three stars on the Sportsnet broadcast were:  #3 - Erik Karlsson;  #2 - Alex Semin and #1 - Jason Spezza.

The three stars on the Team's broadcast were:  #3 - Alex Semin;  #2 - Daniel Alfredsson and #1 - Jason Spezza.  The hardest working Senator for the night:  Erik Karlsson.

That makes five straight wins for the Senators, three straight on the road.

GREAT GAME GUYS!!!!   :ccclapping:

Couldn't say it any better rose!

What a streaky team the Senators are. Long losing streak followed by a winning one, then losing, and back on the winning side.

Good game. What I don't get is, spezza had 2 goals and 4 points while H.Sedin had 1 goal and 3 points. But H.sedin is named 2nd star of the day while spezza isn't even named as one of the three.

Spezza didn't get 2 goals and 4 points, he got 2 goals and 2 assists for a total of 4 points.  H. Sedin would have had 1 goal and 2 assists for a total of 3 points.

Good win, nice/lucky OT goal.  I'll take it.     Had the game stopped after the first period, I would have gotten my prediction correct.   Damn second and third periods always get in my way.

The Sens had an excellent shot-blocking night against the Caps:  28 blocked shots in total led by Sutton with 7 and Kelly and Campoli with 4 each!
