Sutton is a big boy who wants to play here, is decent defensively, blocks shots, can hit and is just going to be a monster come playoff time in those physical games.  He gives us that Chara toughness we've been missing back there

Sutton does add a physical element that we've been missing.   nod

I doubted this trade. But now I think it was a steal for Murray. Murray did a great job in the deadline. He brought Cullen and Sutton. Both of them have been playing great in the past 5 games.

I haven't had the chance to watch many of the games lately but what I see of Sutton, he seems pretty steady.  However he could become a liability, due to his size, if the league really does clamp down on head shots.  He's gonna have a hard time keeping his hits clean.  Guys like him and Chara will have to modify how they play cause I don't think there will be leniency just cause they are tall.

Interesting pairing with Sutton, but it sure worked last night.  Lots for Karlsson to learn from a veteran and Sutton doesn't seem to be the kind of guy to have a big ego that would resent the young guy doing his offensive thing while he minds the store.

I can see him playing with Karlsson, just to make sure no one tries to take liberties on the little guy.

Don't mess with my little friend!

Sutton is a big, strong boy and he's tough enough but he's not really much of a fighter.  He's kind of Hal Gill big.

Oh boy, I still remember Hal Gill getting beaten up by Shane Hnidy back in the day.

I wasn't thinking of fighting.  Just a good physical partner to help out and keep the boys in check in front of the net and from possibily physically dominating a pairing of, say, Karlsson and Lee.

But we do have to expect some Hal Gill type games from him as well.  Pylons can only move so fast....  Pairing him with Karlsson is brilliant!!

Unlike a lot of people, I have never had a problem with how Hal Gill plays the game.  He's got a big wingspan and uses it well.  That being said though, I like this pairing a lot.  When I coached that was the kind of pair I would put together.  The big stay at home guy with the more offensive guy with wheels.  It will help Karlsson knowing Sutton is back there.

I can't remember who he did this to last night, but he gave what seemed to be a little shove to one of the Edmonton players and sent the guy flying into the boards.  That's just scary.

All in all our d looks pretty decent now, they can score, hit, block shots, fight... I feel like they can pretty well play any type of game.   And I gotta say Karlsson is a sign for the long term guy.  I think he'll find a very good home here and the presence of alfie will help a lot in keeping him

Yeah...I remember that too.  Although at the time I wondered if the Oiler was embellishing a bit then on the replay I thought "ah..maybe not!".

No, they are looking at a different kind of hit. It is more likely to affect forwards coming back on the backcheck and catching a guy from their blindside - think Neil's hit on Drury or Mark Bell's hit on Alfie a few years back - than defenceman hitting from a forward position - think Scott Stevens' devastating hits.

I hadn't heard Sutton speak with the media while he was with other teams.  I like what I am hearing since he came to the Sens though.  I get the impression he really wants to make a run of it in the playoffs, and will take a leadership role to push and prod guys to step it up.

Considering that in 15 years or so in the NHL he has played a total of 4 playoff games (when Atlanta got swept by the Rangers a few years ago), I don't blame him.  razz
