Ah, I didn't know he received a 10-min misconduct for that towel.  I thought it was petty but I didn't think he was penalized for it.

I do not expect the league to take sanctions; it's impossible to define "good sportsmanship" in any rule book.  I would expect club executives to make it clear to all their players that while this is a business and they are in it to win, they are in it to win with dignity.  They are also expected to take losses with dignity.  They are role models and this is not modeling good behaviour by sportsmen/women.  I would also expect his peers to take issue with this behaviour.

As expected, reaction from the fan-base is mixed; some thinking this is fabulous and others thinking it is scandelous.

I think it was just a little gamesmanship but I respect your feelings.  I hate to make the comparison but as far as unsportsmanlike moves go it isn't even in the same ballpark as shooting the puck at another player.

WTH, we're talking about 'sanctions'?  Come on, a little gamesmanship and trash talk gets the venom flowing and makes these series more fun.

What we need now is a good headbutt to the chest.  :D

I think it is in the same ballpark as shooting a puck at another player and it certainly was not a proud moment in Daniel's career as far as I am concerned (pretty cringe-worthy actually).

As for cranking up the emotion - just remember that your kid may either take this as a cue to act or some other kid will act it out on your kid.  Then explain it.

:icon_agree:  I agree on all points.  Players have 'brain farts' but Pronger has picked up the puck two straight games.  Some are saying he is doing it to "detract attention" to the Flyers' play (or lack thereof)....I personally think he's doing it because he's a moron.  Frankly don't think he has the brain-strength to figure out that it will "detract attention" from the rest of the Flyers.  He just doesn't seem that savvy, as it were, particularly with his comments afterwards in the dressing room about it.

As far as the misconducts, it's my understanding that both Pronger and Eager (who came over to verbally confront him about it) got 10 minute misconducts at the end of the second game.

Did Pronger ever play for the Islanders?  I thought some of THEM (think Yashin, DiPietro) were the highest earners ever.  If they're not, they certainly had to the least amount of 'work' to collect their HUGE paycheques!! :duh

I still think the 'Hawks in five games.  It would be great for them and their fans if they took the Cup at the "MadHouse on Madison"!! :woohoo

I've played in hundreds of hockey games (obviously not in a SCF) but I've never once given any thought to who picked up the puck at the end of any game.  I really don't think that the Hawks players care.  They are interested in getting rings, not pucks.  Pronger is just trying to be irritating.  Eager was just upset with the fact Pronger was trying to bug them.  The act itself is pretty meaningless.

That puck could have only been in play for 30 seconds for all we know.  It's just a chunk of rubber.

^^With due respect, a puck that spent 30 seconds in an NHL SCF game has more "worth" than the millions that get shot around rinks everywhere every other day of the week (think what gets sold on eBay every day of the week  :shake:).  With that said,  yes...you're right.  Pronger was just trying to bug them and he did.  He bugs ME just because he's on the ice and I think he's a jerk.  But I won't ascribe any 'lofty' purpose to his taking the puck, in a premeditated way to get the 'Hawks "off their game".  He's just not smart enough, IMHO.

And, personally, I think it would be a travesty if Pronger won the Conn Smyth.  Sure, he's a "dominating" player but he also gets away with waaaaay more than other players. :icon_banghead:

I've never noticed a game puck at any level meaning much.  Players usually just leave it where it is and leave the ice.

One of the things that makes him great is the fact he get's close but rarely crosses the line.  I think he's probably smarter than you think.

The Hawks have basically said it didn't bug them at all.  It seems to have bugged the media and some fans more.

EDIT 6:04pm:  Thank you Brian Burke on OTR.  He's never heard about winning teams or anyone picking up the puck.

So why is Pronger picking up the puck, then....if "winning teams' don't do/want it?

Stupid story involving a goof.

We will have to agree to disagree that Pronger "rarely crosses the line" or that "he's probably smarter than you think".  I think he not only crosses the line plenty but, maddeningly, he gets away with it often.  And I personally think he's about as smart, intellectually, as the pucks he is throwing into the trash cans after games.

I'm out on this.

Yet ANOTHER Philly PP.

And here is a perfect example of Pronger being let go. He crosschecks MULTIPLE times and doesnt get called yet Byflugien does?

Wow, Philly rink workers sure have a quick finger on the goal horn. :)

*Edit*

Bullshit review.  The camera is on an angle and of course it LOOKS in.  They need one directly above the net at an almost zero angle: Yes, hard to do with the crossbar.

*Edit 2*

Good point by whatever commentator said it.  The Flyers should NOT have shown the replay of the goal while it was under review.  I hope they get a nice fine out of that.

I'm fine with Philly getting one win....I would rather see Chicago win the Cup at home (easy to say when it's not MY team playing!).

I only got to see the game in fits and starts tonight since I am leaving in the morning to stay at the Chateau Laurier until Sunday...helped to organize an annual convention that is taking place there starting tomorrow.  We have 350 delegates and their spouses starting to arrive in the morning and I'll be very busy the next few days.  We do, however, have a flat screen lined up to be in our hospitality lounge so hopefully will get to see some of the game Friday night!

By the way......who 'took the puck' at the end of the game tonight?   ;)

Giroux is a beast

Gotta say....he's played very well this post-season!

I will say in the 3rd period Phily played much harder than Chicago did but I eventually lost count of the number of crosschecks that Pronger got away with.  The most glaring one was when he did it like three times to Byflugien and got away with it while Byf got called for slashin because the golden boy threw his arms in the air in a "wtf" gesture.

I forget the name but it was a Flyers forward that took it so they are obviously playing mind games.

Powe I think took it for Giroux apparently.

That one makes more sense though since it was the goal puck and not just a random puck on the ice when the game ended.

Personally I think the Flyers may just win this.  I think that contrary to the results they've been the better team in the series.  It's sure makes watching easy when you don't really give a crap.

While they have been playing better that really doesn't matter as most of the Pens/Habs series the Habs werre not the better team yet Halak bailed them out.  Can Leighton keep it up?

I won't lose any sleep over it but my team in the West is the Hawks so I do hope they win.  I just can't cheer for a team with Pronger or Carcilo on it.  It's hard enough cheering for Chicago with Eager on it. :)

Flyers likely deserved the win, but they also got lucky.  Two goals on PPs from penalties that were called because a stick broke on a light slash, which goes on all night from both sides.  You can't count on those breaks.

Chicago is even reviewing their options on how to approach the league with regard to how much shit Pronger is getting away with: not only the crosschecking and roughing but the obstruction on the blue line after the puck is dumped.  That is the same shit he pulled in the 2007 cup finals.
