To be fair, he's been handling the physical play quite well this year. He often gets pummeled in the corners and he still goes back to retrieve the puck the next time.
I completely agree. He's looked read solid defensively the past few weeks. He seems to have a way of stripping a puck carrier without necessarily having to drive them into the boards.But just imagine him rushing up ice, allowed to just walk around everybody.
I would have to say the benching has helped him out. He still has a lot more to prove though before I consider him a "Real solid" d man. -11 doesn't cut it here. I see a very talented quick d man thats learning to play d in the nhl. He can take a shot, but what really saves him is his vision. He seems to be able to pick up on the headhunters and hide very well.
Here, on this team, -11 isn't so bad. He's in the top half of our defensemen for +/-
If you wanna compare him against a bunch of underperforming players, go for it.
