Well, Alfie is sacred yes as is Spezza, Karlsson, some of the prospects in Runblad, Cowen, Wiercoch and some others, plus guys like Lehner (who hopefully will become lead goalie), Carkner and Neil (dunno, got a spot in me that doesn't want those two to go).

Ugh, I hope Neil is the next to go in all honesty, his tune is gotten real old for me.

Lehner will become a number one, but hopefully not next year.  The Sens are going to need a goalie for next year and probably the year after that, Lehner is NOT ready nor should he be expected to be

Kind of lost in all of this is the fact that the Sens organization pulled off a pretty classy move by moving him to Nashville, they had no obligation to do so

Think that the real disappointing thing here is that we've lost Carrie Underwood  ;)

And Nashville was willing to pay for him as well.. They didn't give him up for nothing..

Tough pill to swallow.  Fish may not have deserved the money he earned but you can't fault his attitude or work ethic.  He was a good teammate and earned praise from just about everyone in the league.  I wish him the best in Nashville and will cheer for him to be the player he never was in Ottawa.

The return is better than I expected which likely illustrates the respect that Mike has earned in this league.

Which means Murray will announce Lehner will be the starter beginning next week.   :icon_hiding2:

Sure - I was referring to the vets on the team rather than the youngsters and prospects, but didn't really explain myself properly. I probably wouldn't let Carkner go as I don't think you'd get anything worth having in return, certainly not greater than his value to us as a solid, reliable third string blueliner who can go and keep the opposition honest with his fists.

Alfredsson should be on the table too as far as I'm concerned.  He's got the no trade and I'm not saying we should try run him out ala Mats Sundin.  But if there is interest from a team and from Alfie going there, it should be investigated.  However I don't think either is the case.

The Sens certainly have more valuable assets they can part with in comparison to the other teams that are likely to be selling off players...

Carkner < Neil on the market, so I would imagine you could get more for Neil.

Kovalev, Phillips, Michalek, Kuba, Ruutu & Gonchar would definitely have value to some teams. Hopefully we can extract the maximum given the only other teams in the same position as us are NYI, EDM & NJD (who seems to be surging now).

Alfie has stated that he wants to retire a Senator, and I think he has more than earned the right not to be approached about changing his mind. I for one will be there the night they hang the # 11 from the rafters.

The Sens will never get enough in return if they trade Carkner, and it's pretty rare to find a top notch enforcer who is more than capable of playing 15 minutes per night.

Fish has a NTC in his contract, which means he could veto any trade he didn't like. When you look at it from that angle, they kinda did have to trade him to NSH.

Actually that's not true.  Fisher's NTC had expired.  He had until the end of last season to give the team a list of teams that he would like to be traded to which would have continued his NTC.  Because he never provided that list, his NTC had expired.  It was in the Ottawa Sun and Murray even confirmed it last week.
There are good coaches and there are bad coaches, the real question is "Do you want this person to be a role model to your kids for the next 6 months".  That's the question you have to ask yourself.

In an exit interview, Fisher said he had told Murray he wanted to go to Nashville or LA.

I'd just like to make sure that the Ottawa Senators are aware that in the event of anyone showing any interest in Philip Kuba, I am available to give him a lift to his new team wherever it may be. Including Europe. And Russia.

In case anyone isn't on the Sens' mailing list, here's the message from Cyril Leeder:
Quote
Today we announced that Mike Fisher had been traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a first-round draft choice for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional draft choice in 2012.

Mike has been a great player for us, both on and off the ice, and we thank him for everything he has done for our organization and our community.

We are all disappointed with the results from this season. A number of you have contacted us and asked us to take the necessary steps to get the team back to an elite level in the Eastern Conference. If we are serious about returning our team to an elite level, we have to make difficult decisions. Moving Mike is certainly one of those difficult decisions and with the trade today, we are definitely looking ahead -- not back -- to the future of our team.

We do want you and other Senators fans to know that once we had determined that a trade for Mike would help our team in the future, we made extra efforts to move him to Nashville where his hockey career will be able to mesh with his personal life. We felt we owed that to Mike for all that he has done for our franchise and our community.

We invite you to view a video interview of Bryan Murray’s comments regarding the trade and what it means regarding the direction of our hockey team.

Sincerely,

Cyril M. Leeder, FCA
President and Alternate Governor
Ottawa Senators Hockey Club

As Garry Galley said on the Team today..."They traded Bobby Orr, they traded Wayne Gretzky.  'Nuff said."

If the two best ever can be traded, what the heck makes Alfredsson so special?
