Maybe it's time to boycott a specific as Gas company
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:14:30 AM »
The gas prices are getting so crazy in Ontario at least, that I believe it is time to boycott a gas company. I think a month of national boycotting would send a message and should bring down the price of gas. My understanding is we do not buy Lybian oil but due to the uprising happening over there, it is being used as an excuse to raise gas prices over here.

There is something definately wrong here and nothing will change unless we get their attention.

Shock and Awe!!!!

Oil is a non-renewable natural resource, any shortage (real or perceived) will drive up the price. It doesn't matter where we actually buy it.

Oh please...If a gas station gets robbed the prices go up.. Just excuses.
currently we are sitting on a surplus, and demand is down 11% since 2007. Yet the prices are going up.

My fav. is Americans complaining about gas prices....
Id LOVE to pay what they pay... $3.43 a gallon.... Bring it on..(0.92 a litre)
Hell Ill pay $3.70 a gallon. (work out to $1 a litre)

Beat the $4.77 Im paying now...($1.29, = $60 a week)

We pay just over double in taxes on fuel.... its absurd.
If they could lock it in at $1.00 or even $1.10 Id be fine with that. Means we would still pay $4.00 to $4.20 a litre.

NEVER AGAIN......   :sosad:

Before the Christmas holidays I think the gas prices averaged around $0.94/litre and now it's over $0.30 more.  That's a huge load of shit.  These greedy pricks don't give two shits about anyone but themselves.  You think they care about how much they pay for gas when they haul in over $20-million a year(I mean they as in the CEOs of the fuel giants)?

My point being that it doesn't matter if we buy oil from Lybia or not. Crude prices are set in the global market using a system that is largely based on scarcity and cutting off supply at any point increases the value of the remaining supply - whether it is still in the ground or sitting in a reserve tank somewhere.

Are we getting jobbed at the pumps? Does the increase in gas price often exceed the increase in price of crude? For sure, but that's not what I was talking about. I was merely pointing out that it doesn't matter where we actually buy crude as it can still affect the pricing of said goods.

I agree, and yet still people want to elect right wing ruling parties. There's way too much "people should work together to help each other, just as long as I don't have to". Funny old world.

Well, when center-left parties do to Ontario what the Liberals have done for the last 8 years, and people still remember what Bob Rae did in the early 90s, it's no surprise that the only alternative for a lot of people is the Cons.

And what have the liberals done for us, other than give their friends hundreds of millions of our tax dollars for projects they may or may not complete? I've seen too many multi- million dollar and billion dollar boondoggles to trust anyone wearing a red tie.

Yup, it's getting to that point for sure.

I remember when it cost me maybe $31.00 to fill my 4-door Corolla up from gas light empty.  I don't have it anymore but I'd be lucky to fill it for $60 from empty.

I have more fuel efficient vehicles now, but it wasn't too long ago when I had a 1/2 ton truck with a 130 litre fuel tank. I sold it when it cost me the outrageous price of $75.00 to fill it.

My Jeep Wrangler cost me $70 to fill this morning.  That won't even get me to the weekend.

That's roughly what I pay for each of my vehicles, but my Escape goes through it faster than my Mazda6. If I still had the old 1/2 ton today, it would cost me $over $150.00
