$3.2M per year over the four years.  $2.75M in year 1; $3M in years 2 and 3; $3.5M in year 4.  At least, I am pretty sure that's what I just heard.

yep it's official. And since we are paying a has been d man about the same amount, I don't have problems with this. It will give Lehner enough development time in Bingo  ;)
Luongo sucks.

I don't like this at all. This is Murray giving another player a huge deal based on a short period of great work. Anderson was pretty bad for Colorado this year - there is a reason they felt comfortable trading him for Elliott. He was 13-15, 3.28gaa and .897 save percentage for the Avs this season. He's been good in the past, but so was Gerber.

Are you kidding me? He has a cap hit of just over 3 million and we will not be in even close to the cap and we have to reach the floor some how. Also he isn't a bad goalie, he has played well since getting here and really who cares if he stinks it up like he did with the Avs it will help us get a good draft pick in the coming years.

I was waiting for the Gerber comparison and let me ask you this. Did you even watch Gerber? He was a fish out of water. No where near the same player as Anderson.

We are getting some of Anderson's best years for 3 mil a year. A change of scenery is what he needs that was no excuse and he really wants to play in a hockey town like Ottawa (for better for for worse).

He's showed some great positional play and plays standing tall out there. All this with our D being crap and a bunch of nubs being on the bench. To have a shot at Anderson for such low impact on the cap while Lehner develops is a great move.

As far as  this being a good deal or not, only time will tell.

I am not sure about this one.. It sounds like Murray may be sticking around if he's still signing players for 3-4 more years..  :smily677:

This is going over favorably on Murray. All indications are that he'll be kept around.

The way I read this deal is that IF Anderson continues on his 'tear' for the Sens for the remaining 10 games, he would likely have become too expensive for the team to sign since there are other teams who might pony up more money that what Anderson signed for with Ottawa.  However, by offering him the 4th year, Murray was able to sign him for possibly less-per-year than another team very possibly would have offered him.  The reality is, for me, that no way Lehner is ready for next year, no way Leclaire is resigned and, like it or not, the Sens need a goalie with some sort of experience for the next couple of years to work the net while Lehner develops.  The money spent on Anderson is not incredibly expensive and I have not heard that he has an NTC or NMC...if he plays very well in the first three years but Lehner is also ready by then, he's an asset to the team who could be traded since his cap hit isn't all that high.

I'm fine with this signing.

Lehner spends year 1 in the AHL (if the Sens still have an affiliate), year 2 and 3 as the backup in Ottawa, playing more games in year 3 than year 2 and seriously fights for the #1 spot in year 4.

To thos who don't like this deal...who would you rather have signed instead?  Any UFA goalie on the market this year would have cost you at least 4 seasons and a hellova lot more than the $3.2 mil cap hit Anderson costs....

Its either pay Anderson now, or pay him a lot more when the bidding war starts July 1.....

Apparently the Sports Writers are saying it's a bad deal, but the fans in Ottawa are happy about it!  :smily677:

And yet....

No mention that this deal has none of the standard No Movement or No Trade Clauses that have handcuffed teams including the Sens in the past.

Listening to the Team, i get the exact opposite sense....the talking heads think its a good idea, and the fans can't wait to hang Anderson in effigy....

I'm on this train. Anderson and McElhinney for considerably less per year than Leclaire and Elliott - anyone who claims this is anything other than a significant upgrade is on some good drugs. Sure, we could spend several million more on Vokoun or Bryzgalov, but a) why do that when we're not going to be contending for a couple of years anyway, and b) why would they want to come here anyway?

Just heard Anderson interviewed on the Team.  There are no 'albatross' clauses.  He seemed very happy and did admit that with his wife pregnant, he was looking to get them settled in before the July 1st deadline and he said they both really like it here in Ottawa.

Obviously a signing that needed to be done. I see way more value in signing Anderson, rather then a guy like Bryzgalov, Roloson or Vokoun who are all towards the end of their careers. Anderson is only 29 and has proven himself in not only in Colorado but Florida a couple years ago. His numbers in Colorado this season doesn't worry me all that much. That whole team has been awful, especially their defence. Now all we need is reliable backup at a cheap price. Lehner needs more time in Bingo obviously. Not sure yet, if McElhinney is top option at backup or not. I think Henrik Karlsson (calgary's backup) who is UFA this summer, has all the makings of being a #1 goalie in the NHL. I'd love to see Murray go after him. Could be a diamond in the rough.
