Wonder if Mario will issue a statement agreeing with the suspension and/or saying that Cooke is gone for any additional rounds as a 'team suspension'?  Cooke totally disrespected not only the player he hit on the play but the NHL in general and his team and owner in particular with his latest antics.  The League had just spent days in Florida discussing this very type of hit and he (seemingly) went out of his way to try to make a mockery of them all.  Step up to the mic, Mario, and tell  us how you really feel about this suspension to this jerk.

I kind of wish the suspension would have been longer imo.  But with regard to Lemieux tacking on additional days or whatever for a team suspension, wouldn't that violate some part of the CBA or piss of the NHLPA?  He can issue a verbal statement or instruct the coach to put him as a healthy scratch (yes, that would in effect be the same as tacking on extra days) but that's about it.

I'd be even happier if the Pens just bought him out and said "There's the door!"

I'm not sure if it does violate terms or not (I'm assume it would) because don't the playoffs not "count" towards the players?

Agreed.

I think the suspension was about right.  Cooke is a good player but I think he probably needs counselling or something.  I think he's a half a bubble off plumb.

I just saw the hit on McDonagh. What an utter tool that man is - as you say, he clearly isn't wired up right.

That may be the case but apparently only when he's dressed in his hockey gear.  Apparently he's next to a saint in his off-ice comportment. :smily677:

I'm not going to waste too much text on this loser, but I wish they would have tossed him for the entire season. Players like this are what's wrong with the NHL.. He's never going to learn. I guarantee you we'll see this again from this jerk. I just pray that someone gives him some of his own medicine.

Listen to him whine now that he's out 200K. "Im so sorry I realize now more than ever I was wrong etc". Yeah, right.  :shake:
He makes his team look bad, he makes himself look bad.

I'm with you there. McSorley and Simon get booted for life, and this clown is still able to come back and continue his run of intentionally hurting quality players.

As long as there is an instigator rule in the NHL, the rules actually protect the Sean Avery's and Matt Cooke's of the world. Get rid of that rule, and let these little douchebags get what's coming to them.

Does he actually think anyone is going to buy that load of crap? Try telling that story to all of the guys you've injured over the years, you little &^&$$&#^#!

I HATE Avery but he's not in the same category as Cooke.  Avery just yaps a lot.  He's not that dirty.

He still makes more than his share of cheap shots, then turtles when challenged. If he was just yappy, it wouldn't be so bad. I used to laugh all the time at things that Essa Tikkanen used to say to other players. Now there was a pest that knew how to play the game.

Avery and Cooke aren't bad players either.  Idiots but they can play the game.

I know, that's part of what's frustrating about them. There are some guys whose only way of sticking in the NHL is to be a meathead. Both of these guys could be decent players without all the antics, but they choose to disrespect themselves, their opponents, their teammates, and the league for no good reason.

I still think the game would be better off without them.  Or better yet, without an instigator rule...  :drink:
