Metalhawk:
Konopka played against the Leafs in the first game, but not since...

Like what I have seen of Mika, but I think he would benefit from a year in Bingo. 18 is very young.
I could see Runblad starting in Bingo, then getting a callup in a couple of months after adjusting to the ice and getting conifident in the smaller rink.

No can do. It's either the NHL or the SEL, as he's still under contract with his team. There's an out clause if he can play in the NHL and the Sens buy him out, but there's no Bingo in his future this year.

Figures, the one game I missed.

Too bad they couldn't buy out his SEL contract and have him play in Bingo. I'm not big on rushing kids, so I'm not in a hurry to see him as the Sens # 2 centre this year. I would, however prefer to see him in Bingo learning the North American game and gelling with his future team mates than playing back in Sweden.

There's something to be said for the environment where young kids join the big league, though. If it's a pressure cooker, where the team is expected to be competitive, then yeah, it can definitely set careers back. Always on the bubble and afraid of being the goat, where coaches won't let players develop their individual talents. But will that be the environment in Ottawa? Was it a bad thing for the Oilers that a lot of their young players came of age with the big club?
I don't think so. I think there's an opportunity so long as the team and fans are patient and understanding, at least in Zibanejad's case. It's not the same as throwing an 18 year old onto Vancouver or Boston's roster, or the Leafs, just because of the media scrutiny. Where they may get eaten alive.
