--- Quote from: gared66 on September 27, 2011, 08:37:56 PM ---There's something to be said for the environment where young kids join the big league, though. If it's a pressure cooker, where the team is expected to be competitive, then yeah, it can definitely set careers back. Always on the bubble and afraid of being the goat, where coaches won't let players develop their individual talents. But will that be the environment in Ottawa? Was it a bad thing for the Oilers that a lot of their young players came of age with the big club?

I don't think so. I think there's an opportunity so long as the team and fans are patient and understanding, at least in Zibanejad's case. It's not the same as throwing an 18 year old onto Vancouver or Boston's roster, or the Leafs, just because of the media scrutiny. Where they may get eaten alive.

You do have a point, although the entire team is under a microscope here in Ottawa, so it's a little different than being an 18 year old on say, the Panthers or Kings, where once you leave the rink, nobody has a clue who you are and the local media isn't talking about you every day.
Anyways, looks like a moot point. Since Regin re- injured his shoulder last night, my money is that Zibanajad will be starting the year with the big club.

Rickman:
Both valid points.  This was the problem with bringing in Alexandre Daigle in '93.  Too much pressure on a new team in Canada, and he didn't get to grow slowly like they did with players like Hossa and others!

This years team is full of youngsters like in Edmonton, so brace yourself, were in for the long haul!  :SENSSHOOTER:

OS:
Bochenski is the poster child for not getting to awed by pre-season perfomances as well.  If not the AHl, then the SEL for Mika this year.

Not a great game for Lehner last night, he got beat on some shots that he would usually have.  Snit happens though.
