Not sure what your point is. People shouldn't protest about corporations buying policy to protect profiteering and shareholder value at the cost of jobs because they have more than starving millions in the third world?

I think some of the guys that were bailed out in the US should have had jail time.  I find the 99% angle a bit ironic, as worldwide, the US overall would be in the top 1.  Lots of smartphones and well dressed and fed people in amongst the protesters.  The protest is fine.  The 99% angle, as if they are so downtrodden is a bit over the top.

I see the point, but there are a significant proportion of the US population living beneath the federally defined poverty line. Of course the majority still live with untold wealth compared to many elsewhere in the world, but you have to start somewhere and highlighting the failure of a system that allows the few to profit by almost unimaginable amounts at the expense of the majority seems like a reasonable place.

Poignant it is.  For me, however, part of the message is that it's the 99% who try to help people like this in dire need, not necessarily the 1%.  And the less the 99% have, the less they can help the needier.

It takes just under $60,000 to make it into the top 1%.  I'm sure some of the protesters and a lot of us posters on Sensnetwork fall into this category.

Is that before or after taxes?  Because I'm supposed to be in the 1%, then why do I still feel like the other 99%?

^^Yep.  I think the 99%/1% that is being used for the OWS movement is based on US numbers.

At a $60k threshold, it's more like the protest is aimed at .01%.

Yeah, but as Rose said, that's a global thing. For the US protests, you have to be earning between $343,927 and $532,613 (depending on the study you use) to be in the top 1%.

methinks you're right. Just for a lark, I entered 15,000.00 as my annual wage, and it put me in the top 12%, then asks me for a donation. I don't think anyone making $15,000 living in this area could possibly afford a donation.
