Windows 8 [merged]
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:08:26 PM »
Another company puts way too much focus on the "tablet experience". Completely ignoring workplace computers, and to a slightly lesser extent, home PC users. What a joke.

The Tablet/iPad is the future.  It was bound to happen!

No it's not.  It might play a bigger part of the marktet but it will never replace the personal computer or the laptop: at least, I don't think it will.

The future of portable, perhaps. But not as the main machine in the workplace, or even home for a lot of people.

But when do we get something better than XP? Three OS's old and I'm still waiting.

I've been using Windows 7 forever and find it decent.  What's your hangup on it?

7 is ok, don't get me wrong.  But in the world of audio, XP is still the only Windows OS that still does everything that I need it to do.

The XP support is dying off so I'll be dragged into it and adapt, but that's the main hangup:  XP was a switch I was happy to make.  I'm still waiting on 7 to do everything I need.  That's not all MS's fault though, its the 3rd parties too.

At home or a standard office desktop, I don't have any major issues with it.

The Workplace is different, as you should be using windows office or windows pro, but the majority of personal users for home use just want something to surf the net, read emails, and print the odd print out.

Laptops have been outselling stand alone computers the last decade for personal use, and now tablets/netbooks, iPhones are the future.

Wirelessly streaming movies to the TV/iPod to the house stereo is where it's at!

I still see tablet as novelty items, at least until they can make them more effective tools for an office environment.

Huh? There's no "Windows office" or "Windows Pro". Right now, it's Windows 7 Home, Pro or Ultimate. They are essentially the same, with a few extra functions as you move up the price list. There will not be an alternative to Windows 8 coming out at the same time.

This is going to be huge for Microsoft. I haven't downloaded the trial yet but have some buddies who tried it and were amazed.
Also read a review from a CNN staff who was so thrilled that she is leaving Mac behind after 11 years.
Anyhoo....
