Might as well bring back this topic as prices at the pumps are creeping up quicker than ever. If it continues to climb, and they predict $1.50 by summer, I can see a lot of people staying home rather than travelling. This will not be good for the tourism trade or the economy in general.

If the government wasnt raking in a sh1tload of money with the taxes from gas they might do something because the price of gas has NOTHING to do with the price and/or availibility of oil. It's pure market speculation and oil futures that continue to *%^# us at the pumps.

I don't even drive and Im pissed off because when I DO get a car I'm going to be royally screwed for sure. I might have to suck it up and buy a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt.

I drive a 4.0 Jeep Wrangler and a Grand Prix and my daily commute is 100km. It hurts.

Ouch, that would hurt. I'd have to pull in over $100k for me to bother driving 100km in a gas guzzling car/truck. Hell, if I was pulling in over $100k I'd definitely buy a Chevy Volt.

People only have so much money. If they spend more on gas, they spend less elsewhere. This can and will affect the economy all over. Less people will go to the movies, people will delay the purchase of that new couch to replace the beat-up one, etc.

... not to mention that increased fuel costs will drastically affect the price of food, and, to a lesser degree, everything we buy.

CBC reporting that Ontario can expect a price jump tonight, as much as 4.5¢ per litre.

Really the only way I can think of fighting it is when it's high I only put around $10 of gas in the tank, and when it goes down, I fill up. If everyone paid very little when it was high, they would suffer a little bit!

The excuse I heard today was that they're doing spring cleaning on the refineries and getting ready to switch from winter gas to summer gas. Really? That's the excuse? Good thing our governments are looking out for us to make sure we don't get screwed.

The news today said it was because of holdups of up to 1 million barrels a day from foreign countries.

Some gas station in Toronto yesterday sold gas for .50 a litre.. lineups for 2 hours apparently.

Sault Ste Marie is up to 1.45 right now.

I say it every time I see gas prices but there is absolutely NO reason, other than profits to the big oil CEOs (and taxes to govt) that gas prices can't be max $0.70 per litre...NONE.

I live in Barrhaven and work downtown. I'm not in good enough shape to bike to and from work, especially if there is a headwind.
