Wow Billy, sounds like you bought into the I Believe slogan more than most.

Most of us believed it wasnt impossible task, but it was improbable.

So no surprises for me.

You don't think they would have had a chance at the cup final had they beat NY?

That's all I am saying. Things were starting to play out nicely. I didn't expect anything. My previous posts from the reg season state that.
Luongo sucks.

If they got by NY there was a chance.  It's pretty much anyones cup this year.

Well, hell of a series, and a hell of a season.   The guys went out on their shields, and I'm proud of that.  One little bounce and it could be the Sens moving on.  I was watching the Devils-Cats and the 2nd Devils goal was from a puck bouncing around 3 sets of feet in front of the goalie and it bounced out for an easy goal... wanted on of those for us!

Bitter and sour though it is, credit to the Rangers.  The have a system, and execute it almost perfectly for 60 minutes.  Didn't give up any odd man rushes, and add in an all-star goalie and there is reason for goals being few and far between.

Sens played very, very, well, but again credit to the Rangers, they made the Sens pay for the couple of big gaffs they made.  I got to see the Rangers D set-up from ice level at one game and TV doesn't do it justice, it is scary tight.   Not the kind of hockey I want to see all the time, but they do execute it very well.

Hard to tell if Alfie will be back.  He would leave on a high note with a tinge of regret from the playoffs.  But the team is transitioning to a new generation and he is leaving it in good hands.  On the other hand, he was the best skater on the ice last night.  If his concussions, surgeries, and aches and pains, let him, I hope he is back to work with the young guys.

Yeah, thats all I am saying. Luck was starting to present itself to a point where it just 'might' be possible to get there.

Would I have bet on the sens going deep back in Feb? Not a chance. However I would have bet they would see the first round. So in a way, no surprises here either. However, they had a good chance the way things were turning out.

The frustration is that they can never pull out a game 7 win and play under pressure.
Luongo sucks.

The game 7 I watched sure looked like the Sens gave the Rangers all the could handle and some.  A couple of mistakes and it cost them.  That's the inexperience that guys like Karlsson and Cowen need to learn from. Otherwise it was pretty much tit-4-tat series.  I mean Gaborik didn't exactly light things up, Spezza was just plain shut down all series and when forced to try an make something happen, turned it over.
You know, when guys like Stone and Silverburg get the opportunity to play in playoff games for thier debuts, I just can't help but welcome the experience this team has now for year two of the rebuild. Afterall, that's what this season was all about. The fact some got thier expectations up after they made the playoffs.....well, what do ya do.  I blame Spezza for having a baby so close to playoffs myself, that's when he shutdown,  :laugh2:

Anyone else really impressed with what they saw out of Silfverberg? What do people think the chances of Silfverberg, Zibanejad and Stone sticking the with sens out of camp next year are? Definitely very excited for next year. Sorry for not following our prospects that much but also hoping we have some good d-men to help replace some guys starting to show their age.

Excellent post!  Especially how that darn baby just had to be born when she was!!!

But, yeah, it was a terrific season for a rebuilding team who played like a TEAM and had a real "never say die" attitude that appealed to me.  And they had lots of the (dare I say?) grit that so many fans have wanted to see over the years.  After a season in which we were predicted to finish last in the East, we have a centre who was in the top five of scoring, a defenceman who has been nominated for the Norris, a returning (from last season....and, hopefully, from this season too!) Captain up for the Masterson and a plethora of potential prospects coming down the pipe.  Not to mention solid goaltending here now and waiting to arrive!  This team of "nobodies" took the first place finishers in the East to game 7 of the first round and lost by one goal in yet another nailbiter!!

Yes, indeed, things are looking very UP for this team!!  Can't wait for the opening of training camp!

GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!   :GO_SENS_GO:

Just heard that Alfie will be joining the Swedish team for the Worlds.   Hmmmm......guess he's not quite ready to hang up his skates yet!

Alfie said before that the biggest question relating to next year is whether or not he's going to have the motivation to go through a summer of training in anticipation of next year. Right now, it's still the current season, even if it's at the Worlds.

Unless he coasts thru training camp, Silfverberg is a lock.  He was a lock out of THIS year's camp, but decided to go back to Sweden.

Z-Bad and Stone probably do the I-81 shuffle most of the year.....but I think at least one of them breaks camp with the main club.

I think Zibanejad might have the upper hand based on the fact that he played 9 games this year and didn't look entirely out of place and that he played against men in the SEL. Most players like Stone coming out of junior that were not top-5 or 10 pick in their draft year can usually use a few years in the AHL. Of course, Stone could be a surprise at training camp, but I don't expect him to be a regular next year.

I don't think Zibanejad is quite ready for the NHL just yet. Don't get me wrong, I really like him but he's simply not ready for the NHL, and would benefit more from another year in Sweden with world jrs, or a year down in Bingo. He needs to develop more. He only scored 5 goals and 8 assists in 26 games in the Swedish Elite league last year. If he goes back to SEL, he will shatter that total, just like Silfverberg did. Also, he only had 1 assist in 9 games for us last year. He's a scorer and bringing him in to the NHL in a likely checking role is a waste. Let him develop in a league where he will be a star on a 1st line. He'll eventually come into the NHL that much better.

As for Stone/Silfverberg......I say both of them! I am a big believer in both as NHL ready, potential big-time rookies. There seems to be a tonne of doubt in Stone, but that's ok. People have been doubting him from day 1. His development started right after his draft. We got him 2010 in 6th round. In his first two junior seasons, he was well under a point a game. Then his third year, he came out of nowhere and put up a 106 pt season. His teamate, Scott Glennie who was a 1st round 8th overall 2009 pick of stars, only had 99. This past season, Stone did even better. 123 pts in 66 games. That is quite frankly, amazing. Spezza never had a season in OHL with totals that high. Stone was also Canada's best player at world juniors without a doubt. He was a scoring machine on the top line. I'm a believer that he's the real and will light it up in the NHL. He's big, smart, skilled and one hell of a shot. I think he's the perfect compliment to Spezza and should be given the chance to play with him. Murray is a Genius when it comes to drafting. 6th round for pete's sake.
